Wow... My first thread of the year makes FP..
Thank God...
You were created by God to have a good heart not a devilish heart, you are trying to paint a different scenario here. She never said that the federal government lacks the capacity, but the institution which bothers on the whole nation at large. Well why should I even be doing this when an illiterate leads the followers "mumu".

Nigeria my COUNTRY.
Corruption seems like a virus in our blood already, both young and old, poor and rich. It goes beyond political inclination cos it has eaten very deep into every sector and department of our federal institutions/parastatal/ministries.

I think the change we so much desire should start with YOU.
VALUE RE-Orientation irrespective of your religion or political affiliation
You are right bro but who make corruption a normal thing in our society? same politicians..They loot the country's treasury thereby, impoverish the masses..Most people in nigeria now believe if you dont engage in illegal activities you hardly make it hence the society we found ourselves today..The Government always say dont wait for them, do things yourselves when they refuse to provide basic amenities like electricity for the masses to strive, reason we have kidnappers, yahoo yahoo, arm robbers, baby factory, human sacrifice for money, drug trafficking, all these na self employment nau as the government directed..smh.

This, to say the least, is a self-degrading statement to make; coming from a person of her pedigree, education and exposure. Is she just realising this - some several years after a dominant presence in government? She is dented, stained, tarred and greatly reduced in the eyes of all in our world who abhor corruption!!!

Your type are worse than the Almajiris in the north in that you don't know, and don't want to know. The only thing you know is to go on social media to advertise your ignorance in the form of moronic comments. The erudite Prof has hit the nail on the head by stating that we do not have the minimum systems and processes to tackle corruption as is being done in other countries.

The APC have up till now decided not accept that the freedom of information law applies to them or even domesticate it if they insist that it is on the concurrent list, despite the rulings of various high courts to the contrary. This has made it nearly impossible for the public to access information on the looting going on at the state level, just as we are accessing information as to what is happening at the federal level. Is it not an irony that the APC are the ones singing about 'change'? I guess that one of the first thing they will do if they get into power is to water down the FOI law, or scrap it altogether so as to protect themselves from public scrutiny.

There is presently before the national assembly, the asset forfeiture bill that has been gathering dust since 2010, which will go a long way in ensuring that people do not benefit from loot of any kind. The law bill stipulates that any asset traced to you would be confiscated by the government if you are unable to prove how you earned it. It seeks to transfer the burden of proof from the government to the accused making it cheaper and faster for the prosecution of corruption cases. In addition to the passage of this bill, there is the need to amend the constitution, removing immunity from prosecution on corruption cases for the president and all the governors, a special court to handle corruption cases, a new evidence act to ensure that computer print out of bank account statements of can be tendered in court to also ease the difficulties in prosecuting corruption cases etc.

The combination of the FOI law and the asset forfeiture law will definitely be a game changer in the fight against corruption. Infact, it will make political office unattractive because a corrupt politician will not get away with corruption. These are the basic minimum systems and processes existing in the US, UK, even South Africa.

So, when Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is saying that Nigeria presently does not have these systems/processes to effectively fight corruption, she is absolutely correct and people who are clueless about this issue should just shut up. Beyond going on the social media to post "Sai Buhari", you guys should ask the relevant questions as to how Buhari wants to prosecute the so-called anti-corruption war if voted into power, operating within the legal confines of the extant laws of the land.

It is pertinent to note that a lot of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), who presently are part of the so-called progressives like Wole Olanipekun and co, have become specialists in defending politicians accused of corruption in court. They have perfected the art, in collusion with some corrupt judges, in getting adjournments after adjournments of corruption cases to ensure that EFCC gets tired of prosecuting cases over so many years without even the court looking into the main substance of the cases. In some of these cases, the defense counsel will be contesting jurisdiction for as many years as possible. How do you expect the government to continue to pay its prosecution lawyers for close to ten years just to get a conviction that may never happen. Out of frustration, EFCC would then end up settling for the plea bargain option which is basically allows the thief to go home with more than 80% of his loot.

In summary, nigeria must restructure if she must move forward because the corrupt national assembly becomes bipartisan when it comes to protecting itself from anti-corruption agencies. They have become so powerful that the only way in ensuring that the asset forfeiture bill is immediately passed into law is a mass action from the nigerian people, demanding that these systems and processes are immediately put in place. This is beyond all the noise making by the self appointed APC "change agents" who we all know are as corrupt, it not more than the PDP.

I weep for my beloved country Nigeria. Is it that our people can not understand or they are now party fundamentalist. How else do you fight corruption apart from reduce funds interactions with people. All of you that are abusing this woman what are your opinion on fighting corruption. She is saying that good IT system can work very well to reduce corruption and even gave instances where it has been applied and it worked well. How did they fish out the ghost worker is it by counting people? How was the fertilizer distribution problem solved was it by carrying the bags to peoples houses.
They said that youths are the leaders of tomorrow but I wonder what our tomorrow will be if the youths are thinking and talking this way. Okay lets say that her plans were wrong, let me ask you do you have any?

Preventing corruption is better than fighting it.

Lets try to be objective in making our judgements.

Most importantly abusing people that you don't even know in NL is getting our of hand. must u abuse or use abusive words, can't you make your comment with out abusing somebody, honestly it's making NL uninteresting .

Its shameful that majority of Nigerian youths cannot read and comprehend a simply writeup.

It is a shame that i have to explain this writeup for people i assume are above 16years.

1, corruption did not start today in Nigeria.

2, Nigerians are more interested in catching the corrupt individuals than they are in blocking the loopholes.

3, youths should ask questions regarding the finance of the country if they feel something is wrong.

4, other countries dont need much of efcc and icpc to fight corruption because they have systems that block the loopholes. E.g the united states have database of people residing in the country. Finger prints are captured as part of identity. Every payment recieved by ministries r stored and a report can easily be generated to show total income generated in a year. Unlike Nigeria where we use reciepts which can be burnt or misplaced.

5, she has emphasised that we need more technology to tackle corruption. She showed how ghost workers were detected and saving Nigeria 207billion.

I expected that Nigerian youths after reading this would be challenged to provide technology related solutions. But no, they just criticise.

"Poll shift: We are in extra time, says Buhari
Posted by: admin February 18, 2015 in Politics

The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), on Tuesday likened the remaining weeks to the 2015 elections to Extra Time in a football match.
He enjoined party leaders, supporters and members to avoid mistakes that could cost the party the elections by remaining resilient because their patience will be tested in the days ahead.
Buhari said this at the joint leaders meeting of the party held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
According to him, he, alongside leaders of the party, travelled the length and breadth of this country, and have heard the cry of change which had become common among Nigerians.
He noted that it was common knowledge that our country is passing through trying times which was imposed on us by the bad Peoples Democratic Party administration.
Buhari said, “The imminent change in answer to the yearnings of our people has been delayed by the postponement of the February 14th, 2015 elections. Our patience and resilience will be tested in the days ahead. We must pass this test.
“In a time like this, which in football analogy can be referred to as Extra Time; we must avoid making costly mistakes. In the weeks ahead, I would like to implore you to remain true to the vision – to build a country that works for all of us and not just for the few.
“To rescue and stabilise our nation from the hands of plunderers. On this, I believe we all agreed.
“The important issue today is that we must use the next six weeks that have been imposed on us, to re-charge and re-focus on our goal. The goal is to win the elections now slated for March 28th and April 11th with a convincing majority.”

Don't mind those mofos they just use words loosely and think they are convincing. May be they are developing a software to strengthen these institutions may be e-prison or e-hanging grin
kraftykc:
Yet the capacities of the ICPC! EFCC and police financial and forensic arm has not been upgraded. What institutions does she mean, is it only ICT that can counter corruptioption, what happened to the good old fashioned courts? What of several probes that the House carrier out and submitted findings about? Did anthing come of them?
