‎Vandalism has been identified as the cause of Nigeria’s poor power supply, according to the Federal Ministry of Power.

If vandalism is tackled by relevant security agencies, the Ministry said the country’s electricity generating capacity would hit 6,000 megawatts in 2015.

Godknows Igali, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, made the disclosure at a budget defence session before the Senate Committee on Power on Tuesday.

Mr. Igali said vandalism of gas pipelines was the biggest challenge the power sector faced.

“Once we go above 4,000 megawatts, people bring us down to 2000; there is no country where its own citizens will go and blow up gas pipelines,” he said. “If these vandals can allow this gas to flow, we will get to over 6000 megawatts.”

When the allegation that the Benin Power Plant failed, came up, Mr. Igali requested that the committee revert to a closed session for his response, citing complexity of the issues involved.

“Going into 2015,” he assured Nigerians of increased power supply, following greater investment and generation of “more power” by the new plant owners.

He said new owners were making “spirited efforts to deal with the teething problems and Nigerians will have more electricity.”

Investors have reposed confidence in Nigeria’s power sector, Mr. Igali said, adding that, the sector has offered massive training and jobs for young people.

All we've gotten from this administration is a windfall of excuses! Solutions a-la Carte is the menu you can never find in GEJ's restaurant.

Though Nigerians don't believe any of their tales, if they indeed are anything to go by, is it not still a failure on the part of government thaT these facilities can't be secured knowing fully well that the perennial electricity problems we've been experiencing take their roots from the vandalism of these facilities?? What are our security agencies doing? What is Tompolo doing with the multi billion naira contract given him to secure such critical facilities?

This government is a huge joke.

Coward!

And a chief in cluelessness cannot order the arrest of those vandals who are discrediting and rubbishing his government.

And some paid goons securing the pipeline failed to do the job they are paid for. Why are they not sacked?

You make GEJ look foolish and clueless to high heaven. . . .

Only a directionless person blame his predicament on everything.
