Congrats to all the new mums, may God almighty bless and keep the little ones, Amen Want to share my POE experience In my own little way of giving back to this wonderful thread and to the benefit of others who r yet to travel. I left nigeria on Friday with BA, arrived London 4.20am London time, I had a stopover of almost 10hrs, wanted to enter London but changed my mind last minute, I am member of heathrows loyalty program, so I had 8 hrs free internet access(wifi), that kept me busy till I went to board my flight to Baltimore @ 14:00 London time. It was supposed to be an 8hr flight but spent 9 hrs due to the snowy weather, landed in Baltimore Washington International @ 6:40 eastern time by this time I was tired, the queue wasn't long, most of the people on the flights were Americans, they were cleared instantly, this made the non citizen queue move faster. It got to my turn and the conversation went thus. CBP: hello, how r you doing? Me: am good CBP: what's your nationality? Me: Nigerian CBP: why r you here Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby CBP: can you say that again Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby CBP: why do you want to have your baby here Me: for better health care CBP: health care at home is bad right Me: yes CBP: how long do you intend to stay Me 12wks CBP: when are you due Me: April She scanned my finger print and my eye details and then asked me to come with her, I was taking to a room where I met about 5 people( 4 Indians and one ther white guy) later on a Nigerian man was brought in, after 20mins, a CBP officer came in, he kept typing on his computer for a while, he then calls on the elderly Indian couple, asked them some questions and they were released, he leaves the room again for another 10mins, attends to another 2 Indian guys and released them afterwards, Then we were 3 left, I just kept asking God for FAVOUR, the two guys were released and I became the only one left, by this time I had spent close to an hour, he then calls me CBP: how r you doing? Me: am good CBP: why are you here Me: my maternity leave and to have my baby CBP: how much cash do you have on you? Me: $1412, I have paid my hospital bill CBP: do you have a proof of payment Me: yes, hands over the receipt to him, and told him I was yet to pay my doctors fee CBP: do you have a doctors appointment? Me: yes, I gave it to him CBp how old is your pregnancy? Me: 31weeks CBP: how long do u intend to stay Me: 12wks CBP: how long where you here on your last trip Me: 14days He noticed I had a lot of papers with me, he asked me to give him everything and goes thru them( I had my hospital estimated bill, my doctors appointment letter, the email I sent to the embassy, the response I got from them, a printed copy of my return ticket, a printed copy of my statement of account. He asked if I had a doctors letter from nigeria, I left that in my hand luggage, and it was checked in @ heathrow so I told him, CBp: what does your husband do Me: told him CBP: what do you do? Me: xyz He then goes on to say, he cant tell me much cos he can see I know a lot already based on the email I sent to the embassy, and he appreciates the fact that I was truthful about my intentions. He told me its legal to come have your baby in America and they have no right to return you if that's the reason you here, but that a lot of people come and lie and that's where the problem lies. Lastly he said if I've got any friend coming for same purpose, I should tell them to say the truth and they will be fine. He admits me in for 6months and wishes me a safe delivery. I went to baggage claim and then to agriculture, I declared all the food items I had, just my indomie and beans was seized. I wore compression socks, it helped a lot. 31 Likes |

Congrats finebony and my dear kizluv (its been long I heard from you so glad you landed in st Louis in one peice Chicago CBP have got nothing on you ) Pls to those who have flown delta pls can you give tips about the best seat positions on their aircraft. Particularly for economy. I intend to ask for an upgrade to economy comfort on the flight if it's not full. But still want to make sure I get the best economy seat in case I don't have the opportunity for an upgrade. Delta airline o not BA. Thanks |

@Mestar, congrats on the birth of your baby. I sent you a pm, just need clarity on a few things. Thanks [quote author=Mestar post=30988162]... So the Lord blessed us with a baby girl a few weeks back. Apologies for sharing my experience a lil late. It hasn't been easy managing two infants. Everything from the prenatal visits to the deliveryat Mihs went well. I had planned to have a natural delivery without any pain meds just like my first but the little snag was going through the pain alone without any support person. ] |

If you can, just pay for an economy comfort seat or use miles to upgrade if you have. I find the economy seats to be pretty cramped and theextra leg room in economy comfort will be a blessing on that 10hr+ flight. The crew usually won't upgrade you just like that. IyawoToBe: |

Congrats Kizluv, Please I am not so clear about your baggage thing. I stand to be corrected but I think your baggage should have been taking to st Loius and the CBP does not have to see them. For example, I booked Delta airline going to Houston but my POE will be Atlanta which is my first landing in US. Do I have to still look for my baggage in ATL to show the CBP or it must have been transferred to my connecting flight going to Houston. Kindly assist with this as my previous experiences with other airline and location included transferring the luggage to ones final destination. kizluv: |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by oas99(f): 3:58pm On Feb 23, 2015 |
Your bags are dropped in Atlanta cos u can't predict what could happen @POE, once u are allowed to enter the US, then u can pick ur bags and join the next flight to your final destination peradventure they wanna send ppl back to their country, your bag is available immediately. They don't even send that u miss your connecting flight they are never in a hurry oluwafunkenny: |

oas99:That was not the case when i flew delta from Lagos to Chicago and POE was Atlanta, my checked in bag was transfered to the chicago flight at atlanta by the airline staff without me seeing it,just went through CBP at Atlanta with my hand luggage and was asked if i had any food and i said no |

Hello people. I'm a July mum. I discovered el paso on this thread. Just got an invoice of $254.50 from doctores para ti for enrolment and personalized letter from a doctor. Please has anyone ever received this personalised letter before? I really need a response so that l can pay them. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by kizluv(f): 1:19am On Feb 24, 2015 |
oluwafunkenny:Thanks dear, Yes from abuja my baggage was to stop at St. Louis, but Cbp can call for your baggage. We took the baggage from BA, and when cbp was done , BA checked it in again and we got it at St. Louis. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by kizluv(f): 1:23am On Feb 24, 2015 |
dere5:Your right , if cbp don't need to see your bags, no need for the airline to see it. If cbp keep you and you miss your flights your bag won't go on the plane. |
