Someone on ebay put the 1992 edition up for sale. The offer price is $18k with this title "92 MERCEDES 500E 5.0 AMG OZ 3 piece RIMS RICARO SEATS SPRUCE GREEN- EXCELENT". Though there are two other at $26k and $33k respectively (both 1992).

If the price is not too crazy for you, I can get it for you. The overage importation is not an issue.

You can check on eBay for it. But if that doesn't work, you can buy a neat regular 200E V-boot and retrofit with a badass V8/V6 or just turbocharge/supercharge its original engine. Who does the latter in Nigeria?

Already thought of that man, but my guy 'code red' advised I try getting the 500E first. I already roll a 230E.

Gotta risk it to get the biscuit. That's a classic right there, and you're hoping to get it for free? If you do see one very cheap, it means all that's left is its shell.

Op I saw a V-boot today even though I was in a hurry I was able to check somethings out it has an AMG badge and also E320 on it, the car looks kinda puffier than normal V-boot and the interior looks like the E500 with wood finish. It also has a lower ground clearance than V-boot I don't know whether it is the spring or shock absorber. I didn't see the engine or the owner but I have the address where u can go take a personal look and confirm also plate no contact me for the details. No FOR SALE sign on it but the car is clean and black in colour.

Well, the 500SE (later renamed S500) actually got to 1999. I can't vouch for the owner if he's telling the truth, so only a physical meeting would confirm.

1) There's a big difference between E500 and 500E

2) The air suspension on MBs can be converted to manual control. So they are not all "collapsed" suspension.

This car is a stretch limo, of all things. I have no idea what the heck it is, but it is NOT your standard 500E. Those sedans were NEVER produced in a stretch limo version, so that badge on the back is most likely bogus.

Heck I could get a BMW M badge and all the fanfare for less than 400 naira in ladipo market....

Chibzee2, if you are seeking to buy the 500E or later model E500 simply as a classic car investment for later resale outside Nigeria, then, obviously no other Mercedes will do, HOWEVER, if you are thinking of the E500 more in terms of a personal acquisition as a regular driving car, then I would HIGHLY recommend a 1990 to 1994 Mercedes 400E or E420, both of which are fitted with the same Mercedes M119 V8 engine as the E500, albeit of of slightly lower displacement than the 5 liter version of the M119 motor used in the E500.

If you are intending to use your classic Mercedes E500 on Nigerian roads, then my advice would be to go for the E420 instead, because the hydraulic suspension of the E500, with its rare and trouble-prone nitrogen spheres, is a very complex and expensive system to repair, while the standard shocks and springs suspension of the E420 is relatively cheap to get back into mint shape. Nigeria's moon-scape roads destroy vehicle suspensions, so choosing the simpler suspension design of the E420 over the E500's complexity would be a wise money-saving move, IF this car is intended for Nigerian roads.

Also, you might be interested to learn that the E500 has a SLOWER takeoff from a dead stop, when compared to the E420, because the E500 transmission starts off in SECOND GEAR, unlike the E420 transmission, which launches the vehicle in FIRST GEAR, accelerating noticeably faster than the E500, until highway speeds are attained, before the E500 comes into its own and overtakes the E420 up beyond 80 mph.

In short, do not overlook the 400E or the E420, in your search for the ultimate W124 Mercedes, because these models are in many regards preferable to the now over-priced E500, for personal use.
