Williamso:Ehen she na 1 to 3? What I gathered was that 1 unit =1 weekly hour lectures, one weekly hour lab, 2 units= 2 hour class, 2 hour lab ,3 unit= 3 weekly hour lectures,3 weekly hour lab. Maybe it's a case of different formats for different schools though. My prospective course is Neurosciences |

Just got the invite from University of Stuttgart to proceed with Step 2 application procedure. M.Sc Infotech. Pls I need info on how long it takes NIPOST to deliver documents to Germany, cos the deadline is kinda near. 30th March and I still gotta get my documents certified. |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Nobody: 1:11pm On Feb 27, 2015 |
donhuko: Use dhl, it will get here in 3 days max. Make multiple copies of your certificates and take them to the high court. It will probably cost u some money so go with money. Print out ur application and put all ur backup documents and include only the certified copies u did at d court not original oo. And send. If ur deadline is near, better use dhl. |

@sekinatmi, why not write GRE/GMAT and apply to schools in U.S that will guarantee u full funding till ur PhD sef? coz this 1st class in stats going to Germany might not really be the best sis, menial job dey but...ermmm..that degree will work wonders in U.S wit ur 1st class.. if U have a high score in GMAT, ul be guaranteed full funding in many schools in U.S and take ur kids along instead of Germany.. Try go for post grad like Machine Learning(really needed in states now, av little programming experience) coz in states with ur background in stats(hope u know how to use Octave, R, Matlab), im sure ur life will change oo..and I can bet my $100 on it..but if its cash constraint still do GMAT/GRE, apply whenever u r in Germany or start from now from Naija..apply to U.S skls..ul get funding sis, and ur kids will assimilate easily.. U av banking experience also;that surely fits well with stats..Permanent Residence(PR) in beautiful English speaking countries should not be ruled out also..Sister do ur homework and u will smile looking back at this. Always have at least a day in a week to browse the web, gather info, form ur own opinion, check forums, ask(but dont take all suggestion coz person wey dey advice sometimes their IQ level is not even average oo..lol) Hope you look into this 1 Like |

<Taiwo> Thanks everyone for keeping this thread alive. I must confess, I've had a swell time reading through all the infos, suggestions, and opinions of everyone. Good job guys. I am looking forward to starting my Phd in Germany this year - specifically at the University Of Hamburg. Luckily, I got a Professor, who agreed to supervise my research. I later (around October last year) put in for a scholarship/research grant through DAAD. Few hours ago, I got a mail that my application has been turned down. So sad! Not to feel bad, I have made up my mind to go ahead with the application self-sponsored (I can't afford to miss this opportunity of getting someone to supervise me, its priceless). Because, from my findings, tuition is free, I only have to pay semester contribution of about 300Euro then other living expenses which I think I can pull through considering the fact that I'm gainfully employed here in Nigeria and I'm due for a study leave with pay (meaning my salary would continue while I'm studying). There's also a huge possibility of getting a job (as research assistant or something related) over there while the programme is on. I also intend to apply for several funding opportunities during the course of the programme. I intend to submit my application online over this weekend. My questions are: 1. The cash I'm going to deposit into the blocked account, can it be withdrawn in full later? (Assuming I borrowed the cash into the account and I need to return asap). 2. Do you think its advisable I use my establishment as my sponsor? (Since I don't have anyone over there in Germany that can stand as a sponsor); I mean for the visa application. 3. Do german school/embassy accepts employee as sponsor? 4. Lastly, my babe is also planning to apply for her Masters. She has HND but currently running an online Top-up programme through a UK Uni (meaning to convert her HND to Bsc.) Does German school accepts either HND or the online stuff? Thanks people. Sorry for the long essay. I say make I pour everything out once and for all. |

Hello house, I have been asked by the German Embassy to come along with my passport and 3 months Travel Health Insurance. Want to use this opportunity to thank you all for your support most especially to Kelly4top or Kelly and some other people right from the old thread just before this new one who has been very supportive by giving useful pieces of advise right from when I was initially refused the visa and had my passport seized and sent to the fraud department of the Nigerian Immigration Service. Where grace abound, every other thing will definitely fall in place. Thanks to God Almighty who made this a reality as without Him we can do nothing. Its always good to know what we want and be very stubborn about our goals in life. I thank you all once more and I will continue to contribute to this thread to assist others coming from behind. For the veterans in the house, how can I get a genuine but very affordable 3 months travel health insurance? Money no dey down so I need a pocket-friendly one. Thanks in anticipation. 3 Likes |

takeastep: For Q1, you will only be able to withdraw certain amount of money per month from ur block account, i think about 600euros. So you'll need to structure ur repayment plan for the borrowed money as well as ur living expenses. For Q2 & Q3, once the sponsor is not a German resident with required amount of monthly income, no other person can stand as ur sponsor. However, if u've got the money (borrowed, gift or personal) just open a blocked account and drop it there... you're good to go and nobody will ask u how u got d money. For Q4..... others with genuine info to help out. Alles gute! |

gadafitruth: Most scholars would have chosen USA over Germany but the uncertainty of PR / Citizenship coupled with other hassles make some follow the straightforward system like Germany. Canada is another option. Frankly, your advice is very true for a first class graduate in STEM. Scholarship will definitely make life smooth in US. We choose Germany because of d free tuition yet quality education. I've resolved to keep my mind open and spread my tentacles. 1 Like |

takeastep: ....Congrats first and foremost....getting a supervisor for a phd thesis from naija is not that easy.. About funding ...Most phd in germany re paid jobs....ie 50 % or 75% Tvl 13...in your case where your scholarship application has been turned down by daad...I think the best option is for you to ask your supervisor if funding option is available(some work groups can fund a phd candidate, if the work group cant...they may recommend the candidate to graduate school for funding or industrial partners) if you re funded by a research group you may be asked to offer some service in return like teachjng assistant or so.....if this idea does not go through then present your study leave as funding option for the now because it is quite difficult for schools to admit a self funded phd student because they dont want a scenario where you become stranded financially. you cant withdraw the 8k euros once....just 670 per mth..... You can use your establishment as the sponsor for the phd(my opinion...you just ve to package it properly ...paid study leave or it will make more sense if you re working in your field..example an engineering firm sponsoring you for a Phd in engineering) but if you fail to secure funding here in germany ( then you ve to clarify with the embassy in nigeria if they will accept that) Secure this phd first...your babe can always tag along .if you secure good funding..phd candidates can come with their wives or better still they can apply for reunion ...but it depends on how much you earn as stipend... Check out this site for more options on funding http://www.euraxess.de/portal/funding_database_in.html All the best bro...... |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by Nobody: 1:26am On Feb 28, 2015 |
Cindino20: Yes, he is absolutely right. Look for phd openings. You can be with ur supervisor and work somewhere else. If your phd position is in academics, u can earn up to 1500€ a month. If you are with a company, u can even earn higher depending on the research area. There are so many phd job openings but its not on daad. You have to look for it in d job market. You also get funding for conferences, travel allowance, research abroad and so on. So, like he said, if there is no funding in the school, hunt for phd jobs, there are plenty!!! |

yes...someone asked a question that's yet to be attended to. I would appreciate the answer to that question too. Are online degrees acceptable for admissions in Germany...Bachelors and associates? |

Ndyoo: Unfortunately my bro, No! Apple laptops are truly expensive. My laptop has also been giving me problems since I came here. That's why I advise others buying theirs when they arrive. My 2 euros! |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by DanIndia(m): 9:17am On Feb 28, 2015 |
Whether it will be acceptable or not greatly depends on the decision of the International Students committee and the board of lecturers (for the course applied) in charge of International students admission of the concerned UNI. I'd advise the applicant to contact the UNI or speak to the director of the course he/she is applying to. JustCare: |

Cindino20: Thanks. The depth of my appreciation is boundless. You guys rock! I think i feel much better now. Your suggestions/opinions have been helpful. I would keep you all posted as i proceed with the whole process. One more thing though, if i present my employer as my sponsor, would i still need to open the blocked account? Would i also need to go to the embassy with any account statements? Either mine of my employer's? #..@Cindino20: Are you in Germany? Cheers. |
