Ok...... what most of us don't know is that James Ibori was GEJ's number one enemy. Why do u think dat GEJ grants Alamesigha pardon? It was purely because he helped GEJ to d level he is now. But what could be said of Ibori? Ibori hates GEJ with passion that whenever they meet at FEC's meeting, he looks down on GEJ and makes GEJ look inferior. Even Ibori was the major sponspor of late Yardua's campaign, that was why he was discharged in Nigerian court of law. Ibori even kicked against Jonathan becoming president when Yardua died. He hate GEJ with passion and when GEJ eventually became d president, he asked d Attorney General to cooperate with the UK government to make sure that Ibori was apprehended so that he can pay Ibori back in his own coin. If we all observed clearly, we will notice that the attorney general was functioning and flexing muscle during this period.... The moral of this is that, don't look down on any man today, he might be your saviour tomorrow! |

Ralphlauren: Why are many of you so ignorant? Didnt you read the part that said the money did not come from the FG? He is just telling you how much it cost to prosecute him in the UK and he is right. Go check the cost of prosecuting criminals in Europe and in the UK. You can use google. It cost a lot of money to prosecute cases in democracy. The estimated cost of prosecuting the Guantanmo bay detainees in New York was so enormous that Obama had to shelve the idea. Education is key. Dont be like Buhari 1 Like |

When I see comments made on Nairaland, I marvel at the level of ignorance pervading the land. Justice is never cheap in any part of the world and that's the part that Nigerians cannot phantom. Just go to your local Police Division and study how the Police works when it comes to investigating crimes. Just like every organisation in the world, you need resources to run your operations. When you counter the fact that the services rendered by the judicial system in this country are heavily subsided, how then will justice be dispensed easily. It's therefore common practice in civilised climes that illegal funds apprehended and confiscated by the law have some percentage of them assigned to law enforcement agencies in order for these agencies to dispense law and order as well as promoting justice easily with less disturbance from financing. Whether we like it or not, it's best we begin to understand that justice isn't cheap. That's why it's far cheaper to prevent crime than to bring criminals to justice. We are worse off with the fact that common infrastructure are lacking. Isn't it better to continue deploying and developing infrastructure that will lead to crime prevention and reduced loss of funds than throwing huge monies to get justice dispensed? The truth is that nobody tells you how much is spent in dispensing justice in this country but it's easy for you to see how some $20b was siphoned from NNPC. That's why I support deploying necessary initiatives and infrastructures that will reduce the crime rate drastically than focusing on prosecuting criminals which will siphon so much tax payers money on just getting a punitive action. We are in dire times now. Nigeria's revenue is dropping with the oil price crashes. Every means to save funds for better utilisation is highly welcome. Nigerians, please use your education and brains for once in this electoral season. 2 Likes |

I don't believe this report. £14m on what...where's d breakdown? I do agree that d enforcement agencies should take a percentage of d loot recovered to cover d costs of prosecution but even that must have a limit. It should not be an avenue to steal from d loot. My humble submission |

They should try TAN. We'd like to know who and how TAN is being funded. The nuisance they are constituting should not run on our collective wealth and tax payers money. Nigerians need to be gainfully employed and not coerced or deceived into being political tools whose pittance depends solely on the re-election of President Jonathan. |

SuperModerator: The article said that UK government spent £14 million (pounds), equivalent to #4.5 billion Naira to secure the conviction of Ibori in London. Essentially, it is expensive to secure conviction within the rule of law (or going through the courts). That it did not cost Nigeria as much as UK to convict Ibori. In other words, the money used to secure Ibori is the money required to maintain all the anti corruption agency over ten years. Glad to help |

theoctopus:Should we now allow politicians to steal our common wealth because the cost to prosecute them is high....oga discipline is the key which Buhari stand for and I agree with him...if there is discipline among the political elite, stealing of public fund will be on decrease which will enable the government to deal with the few looters unlike what we are experiencing under GEJ..what do you expect gej to do when he is part of the looting...remember, stealing is not corruption and how much did nwobodo stole. |

callmenow: and guess what! the foolish senator seems not to be aware that the money was deducted from those recovered from Ibori ...in other words, UK used Nigerian money to provide jobs for UK people to prosecute a Nigerian whereas our silly EFCC is happy to post selfies showing how they returned all monies siezed from Yahoo boys back to foreign senders and then they go cap in hand to the the government asking for more funding 2 Likes 1 Share |
