I don't know what to do with my 8year old German Shepherd. He has been with us for so long, now its just mum and dad at home and they think they no longer need a dog. Just heard dad is contemplating giving him out to someone who eats dogs. *tear*
I don't want that to happen. We are seriously searching for anyone who needs a security dog, so we can give him out for free. Can't bear the thought of him being eaten. I'm just confused

That is a darn old dog ooo. Might be difficult to train.

Have you tried talking to your parents? Perhaps your vet vet help but eating the dog should be an HELL NO

So in your generosity you think someone who can't stand to see her dog given out to a dog eating individual can stand the sight of seeing the same dog put down in a 'humane way'?. Marvelous, bloody marvelous! Clap for your self!.

So this is the best possible solution you can think of huh? Sounds cruel to me!!! You raise a kid for 8years and just decide to put him to a permanent sleep without cause? Never expected such from you...

@op...you have done the right thing... Look for a loving family who can adopt ur kid and monitor his wellbeing on a regular basis... I feel ur pain, be strong for him, I imagine how traumatized he will be upon learning he has to move on without you guys...

last I checked butchers kill & farm local dogs, I've never eaten German Shepherd or seen anyone eat it.

same here o, i suprise o, the dogs eaten are mostly gotten from the northern part of Nigeria, this local dogs mostly roam d bushes and fed independently, which are the local dogs. Eating a dog fed and given all kinds of injection is jus unthinkable.

Aren't farm animals that we eat - such as cows - given all kinds of injections too? Our former vet doctor spends most of his time on farms.

They don't normally eat German Shepherds because they can't afford to buy them. I bet they'll prefer the meat on a well fed GSD. My primary concern is the way the dogs are killed. It is a very brutal, cruel, and painful way for any creature to die, not to mention a beloved pet.

Note that I'm not saying that any of the above posters would eat your dog! I'm sure that most of us here are dog lovers and won't do that.

@op do you still have the dog? If yes I would love to adopt him but he is going to be a security dog on farm. I was actually considering buying a gsd puppy thats why I came to this section. You can be rest assured he will be well taken care of and you can always visit when ever you want
