Crazy Things Nigerians Do At Social Functions-Akbee by Akbee(m): 6:57am On Mar 03, 2015 |
Im not really a socialist so to say. I have only attended a few social functions and have witnessed some nasty behaviours some people put up which i don't think really look pleasing to the sight.Nigerians are sociable, thats quite obvious.however they do tend to capitalize on this. Imagine,u throw a party for a few invited friends with your hard-earned money only for the venue to be filled up with lots of people whom you never invited. You happened to invite a friend and he eventually invited another who also thought it wise to come with two or more peeps to share in the Lord's feast.. Below are some of the crazy things i have seen people do at social functions. pls feel to add yours 1.Gate-Crashing This is the most common scenario at every social function. It seems some Nigerians don't just know their boundaries. They dont see anything wrong in turning up at a ceremony univited. They see it as a way of life.Guys do these alot. I have friends who find pleasure in roaming about town during weekends just to enjoy some goodies at social functions. One of them got the beatings of his life last year when he was handled by the security for gate-crashing. 2.Over-eating This one really irritates me.Imagine,a dude can turn up at a ceremony and eat as if he is breaking a five month dry fasting. Some eat as if the world is coming to an abrupt end soon or as if they aint got a pot in their houses. 3,Lack of Table Manners guys are more guilty of this than the ladies cos the latter would always try to go slow on it maybe to impress that handsome fellow with pink lips and a car key.im afraid sum Guys don't care whether you are staring at them or not:they just wana freestyle. The outcome of this is that alot of guys do leave the venue with oil stains on their clothed..lol |

Still on the food matter... 1. Nigerians are not patient at ceremonies. They are mostly there for the food. In fact once the dishes are being served and the guests have eaten to their satisfaction,,they tend to leave the venue for their homes. That is why party organisers have also been wise and now they stall the "item 7" for a long part of the ceremony before they share it. 2. Guests are also stingy. There was a ceremony I attended with my mum and a woman said she wouldn't give the celebrant the gift she brought simply because she was not served her food well. Actually,,the server only forgot to add the assorted meat she requested for with the local soup served to her 3. The way nigerians fight and want to kill themselves just for souvenirs at social functions is sometimes crazy . At a wedding ceremony I attended,,i was very surprised to see elderly women jostling for just a plastic hand fan and ceramic mug I was really ashamed at the way people who came in jeeps and rovers could strangle themselves all because of common souvenirs they could buy and distribute themselves to a whole Local Government community SMH! 1 Like 1 Share |

4.Inappropriate Dressing Hmmm, okay lets say its a white wedding.Who dosnt know the appropriate dress code?. But sum persons will still appear in traditional attires as if its a new yam festival or chieftaincy coronation.. on the other hand, don't be surprised to see some Nigerians with western attires at traditional festivals. 5.Occupying Front Rows. A girl was totally embarrassed the other day when she forced herself on a seat specially meant for vips. The ushers didn't hesistate to show her the exit cos she started making a noise. N/B:Seat where you should and not where you shouldn't to avoid embarrassing youself cos food go stl reach you.lol 6.Background Sounds I guess thats the suitable term for those noise sum people make at social functions. This goes a long way to cause distraction and hinder a smooth running of the ceremony. Ladies do these alot.I wonder why they cant zip up their mouths until the programme comes to an end. |

Some people see it as an opportunity to feed their entire household especially our aged women. This women attend functions with polythene bags and they collect every food material that comes their way and store it in their bags at the detriment of others. |

Nigerians both rich and poor love awooof like die. NBA conference in owerri last year was an eye opening experience. You need to see the way these lawyers were scrambling for food. I had to try and join the awoof gang since i was doing technical runs and had no time to eat. Even my little boarding school and tertiary experience at scrambling for chow did not help matters sef...it was crazy. I got a cuzzo who works at a fast food and the kind of tale she told me once about a wedding ceremony their company catered for is too wild to be true....she said the youths were issuing threats about causing havoc to them if the food did not reach the plates they were holding, every flat stuff became plate..from unwashed plates to sandy plates, and i'm sure plaintain leaves were not spared too .E remain make dem turn the canopy upside down and use the inside as plate or push people comot their sit and then use the sit carry rice instead of humanbeing. Lol. I had to verify from another source and the person said it was all true. It happened in a village in imo state,i don't wanna mention the name of the LGA tho. E no funny sha. Hunger dey dis country i swear! 1 Like |

Akbee: What kind of slave mentality is this? There's How is a traditional attire inappropriate at a NIGERIAN wedding. It's bad enough that we've adopted white wedding as part of our wedding culture but here's you saying we are wrong to rock our traditionals at such functions? You must be quite high! |
