I beg to disagree wit d OP on many of most of d listed courses- being sorounded by francophone countries, opportunithties abound. I cant beliv I saw counselling in dat list wen deres a national policy dat no institution be it secondary or higher witout d service n d office of counsellor. opportunities in d communication space makes mass communication more lucrative than many so called lucrative areas. do u realize dat evry organisation has dept of communication or public relations
some1 has spoken abt d opportunities dat abound in food science. food scientist MAY av greater openings than microbiology.[color=#006600][/color] as for me, STUDY any course u can, make GOOD GRADES- 1st class, 2:1 and b d best u can. ;afterall hw many ;graduates of banking and finance are working in d bank?

some points rasied here is a bit shallow. there are some courses raised here that are sooo good and career opportunities are high. dud do your home work well.

U dey smoke fish by placing FOOD SCIENCE on that List. Few of the companies that are really doing well in Nigeria today are FOOD related. Some of d places that a FOOD SCIENCE graduate can work include - WHO, NAFDAC, GSK, NESTLE, CADBURY, DANGOTE, CHI FOODS, BREWERIES HOSPITAL( as a Nutrition consultant if u major in Nutrition) I decided not to mention some other ones that hav bn mentioned by other litrate ppl on ds thread, and u may want to argue it out that these are not d top companies in Nigeria after Oil, Financial and ICT sectors that are making waves even with d present economic situation. FOOD SCIENCE n TECHNOLOGY is actually one of the most diversified and best courses anywhere in d world - Google is ur frnd...

Actually most of the courses you listed are relevant.. So get your facts right. E. G food science, Mass communication, History, French.. If everyone of us are doctors then who will work in other parastatals.. Infact sef.All courses are worthy of being studied cos who knows where the destiny lies.. A friend studied french in Unilorin and now works in the French embassy. He collects big money pass me sef. I envy him die.. Just imagine he studied law probably he will be an average man now.. I read geography and presently work with the presidency on merit and based on my expertise. I have also worked on a number of world bank/ British Council/ UN collaborative sustainability development projects based on the same background in geography. This is the era of climate change and if a geographer amongst other professionals is not relevant who else?

Op I don't agree with you in the case of mass communication.....mass communication is very wide... You can chose to work for the print media,electronic media, advert company nd so many.... Mass comm as to do with comunication nd if u ar a good communicator u have the chance to work were ever you like.. You can choose to be a public relation officer in a big company such as cocacola,dangoter, nd so many more that is if you ar good in communication... At the same time, if u ar lucky to get a job in an electronic media such as television or radio u can be a sport repoter,newscaster,discjockey,announcer,editor,weather reporter, nd you can even do the work of an MC(master of ceremony nd many more.... I chatted with a young American lady, she told me her mum is a Nurse n she wished to study photography....I was dazed n asked her y not medicine or health related courses or lucrative course? She said she will be happy to be a photographer..... Its this country that makes things to turn upside down, no matter ur course, be happy,be the best n make the best out of it.
I'm sure u'll be sadden when u see some barristers after years still suffering.

You might be right to some extent that these courses are not very popular. But what you need to understand is that success in life depend largely on your personal goals and God given vision. We have only one professor of Cinematography in the whole of Nigeria and she is a woman. Some many people who are doing very well today don't even know where their certificate is.
Education is meant to refine people and not just to get employment.
