Fellow Nigerians don't cry too much. This is the spiral effect of GEJ-Okonjo austerity measures.Remember when they said taxes will increase,? Importers are already paying more vis-à-vis naira/dollar rate, vat increase, import duty increase, etc. |

The only reason anybody buys DSTV is because of live Football Matches which Supersports has exclusive rights to in Africa. What happened to Hitv?? Why can't one of these new ones like CONSAT and Startimes just gather money and defeat these supersport dictators. I can comfortably tell you that apart from Football matches, Startimes and Gotv are way much better alternatives than this rip off from SouthAfrica. Its high time the NBC started to implement pay per view and not this rip off where you have to pay more almost minimum wage to watch Live football. Nonsense! |

Re: MultiChoice Africa Announces Dstv Subscription Price Increase by Nobody: 10:36am On Mar 05, 2015 |
dammybas:first and foremost , it's not everyone that buy Dstv because of sports.Dstv has different stations for different people, for example they are some persons that love news like CNN,BBC,Sky news e.t.c , some Africa magic, fashion, education channel ( mindset channel especially for those in secondary schools), some MTV base, sound city e.t.c .These channels meet up with specific needs of consumers that love or dislike football. even some persons love hockey, table tennis e.t.c . what you could have said is that majority if Nigerians buy it because of sports Gotv and dstv are from the same breed called multi choice and as a mater of fact was introduced because of the threat from star times. thirdly our government is corrupt because they feed fat from multi choice bribe 2 Likes |

Beer prices have gone up, but we didn't push for a boycott of beer. Advert rates in newspapers go up, we don't push for a boycott. It is the same with toothpaste and other commodities affected by inflation. DStv content is paid for in dollars. The naira is sliding daily. Cost of doing business in the country continues to rise. MultiChoice have no immunity against this. How else could they survive if not to hike fees? Many of us, over the last two years, have hiked the prices of our goods and services because the situation demanded that we did. Why should DStv be different? |

Re: MultiChoice Africa Announces Dstv Subscription Price Increase by Nobody: 5:24pm On Mar 05, 2015 |
denedene:they are two things involved 1.You discontinue that subscription for a lower one or 2. Switch to another service provider that let me say this, the value of naira against the dollar is a major factor here and so Dstv has no choice than to increase their charges. For sport lovers, sorry to say but you have the choice to forsake Dstv and send warning signal to them or continue with the exploit because there's nothing one can do about it. |

Well the truth is how many of those premium or compact channels can you watch in a day on DSTV to warrant paying that much? For me I narrow down to moview I love such as the Series - House of Cards, Scandal etc and I try to go through to the TV station's transmitting them or other Video on Demand platforms such as ABC, Netflix, Hulu through the Internet. The catch here is that despite these TV channels and VoD's sites locked down to geolocations, using VPN or other Smart DNS unblockers, one can bypass these and hit the sites directly and view these programs. I use a Smart Internet TV so its much better for me viewing on TV screen than laptops. The cost implications as compared to DSTV is as follows 1. VPN/DNS Services per month: $4.95 2. Hulu or Netflix Subscription per month $7.99 3. Internet package (Depends) - Spectranet 20GB = N7k Do the math and its way down the N13K for premium and you get access to the latest TV series of your choice aired earlier than it would on DSTV and what else? You don't have to run down your subscription when you are out of town or have no light or Internet access ...you can always put on hold your subscription. I hope this helps out. holatin: 1 Like |

phemiay: SPOT ON!!! They continue to make iks/dongle alternative sooo much more attractive! Late 2013 to early 2014 I recorded ss3 matches in hd from my strong decoder. Now they want people to buy explora for N65k and then use N14k to pay for hd content every month. I dey craze Before this last blockage I was watching EVERYTHING on my strong and I kept asking myself why people pay so much for so little. The repeats on the movies and documentaries is annoying... |

denedene:Forget about what the guy posted... You can watch all kind of sports you wish to without any monthly subcription. All you need is a FTA reciever/decoder and a big dish/pan ranging from 1.8 to 5 meter. |
