I feel like this is a great topic/question but it should be in this section ~> https://www.nairaland.com/webmasters in order to get better responses. For that reason, Im going to ask this question in the Webmasters section.

If I could speak on behalf of Nigerians, I would say a higher threshold for data plans, more throughout from ISPs. The need to implement residential fibre optics by 2018 with a throughput of 1gigabit/sec.

Interesting. So are you saying that Nigeria needs faster internet or that Nigerians need affordable internet? Is it that the internet is not fast enough? Or it is too expensive? Or that Nigerians are not interested in the internet at all?

For the so-called giants of Africa, our internet isn't fast enough or affordable enough. It needs to be more widespread (but we know how the money in this country goes to the wrong places).

I think that Nigerians are very much into the internet and nairaland is a testament to that.

So Nigerians are much into the internet but can they afford it? Is it cheap? N what mainly do internet users use it for? Communication/Social? Or for Research & Educational purposes? Is the internet fast enough? Does the internet need to be cheaper? Faster? Why isn't there more Nigerian or African content on the internet?

I'll come back and respond to your question when I'm on my laptop. Smartphones are tough to type on

Internet is by no means cheap, but there are ways to make it affordable for the general populace. We can clearly build more public Wireless networks (I know that can pose a security risk for those who are security conscious). Internet can be used for all the things you mentioned. Communications/Social, Research and Education, Watching Movies, etc. etc. Nigeria's internet is too slow for my liking. We need to reach the level of throughput that South Korea and Japan have.

The internet provided to us by what they call ISPs needs to be both affordable and fast.

More and more Africans are getting involved on the internet (especially in Ghana and South Africa). I even read an article about how in Somalia, they are implementing Fibre optics and having extremely fast internet. The internet is extremely important nowadays. It's a pity we don't have leaders who are aware of the importance of the internet.

Thats understandable and good. Thanks for the clarification. So I guess the problem is the cost of the internet in Nigeria. Better yet, the cost of everything. What are the top 10 things that you will say people go and do on the internet? What are the top 10 reasons for going on the internet?
