Is it possible for an adult boerboel and adult alsatian to live together peacefully? Had the alsatian (female) for awhile now. The boerboel (male) came a few days ago. Although the boerboel is very gentle with humans it won't tolerate the alsatian. Immediately the boerboel was released it attacked the alsatian violently even though the alsatian didn't provoke. Want to know if it is possible they can live together peaceful or anything I can do to make them compatible. Or I should do return the boerboel. Will appreciate your suggestions.

Dude... Mastiffs won't tolerate an Alsatian... except they were bred together as pups... but two grown dogs... mastiff and alsatian...? (a boerboel is a mastiff)... no way brother... get another boerboel or get another Alsatian... |

With good socialization skills, any dog can live peacefully together and ignore any negative comments on your thread. Chain them close to each other but take cautions. Muzzle the aggressive one and walk them together daily it get someone to walk the gently guy closer to you. Do this daily and in few weeks they will be best of friends . 2 Likes |

oluomoadebayo: Bros... my uncle had a boerboel and a rottweiler... the rottweiler is older than the former by 2 years... as the boerboel grew... so did its temperament... in a nutshell... it nearly killed the rott when it turned a year and a half... both males... he had to giveaway the rott... Since... you have a dog... why don't you breed yours with a bullmastiff or a boerboel... walk them everyday and see if they won't kill yourselves later... 3 Likes |

here is my piece... Boerboels are known to be quite jealous animals, they are also very quick to learn.... we raised our boerboel(female) and alsatian(male) together and what i can say is due to their size, they always tend to lead the park.... what i think you should do is....try to show the boerboel more love, not that you ignore the alsatian, but just to show the boerboel that its presence is not threatened, that way it would not feel jealous,,,after gaining its trust, then the training comes in....i am sure that before any attack, there is always a growling....so what you should do there is, just at that moment when it sees the other dogs and begins to growl, you snap your fingers and say "shush" authoritatively, dont shout it...that way, you distract it from the other dog and continue to play with it ...you have to keep doing this for as long as you can till the dog is almost ignorant of the other dogs presence...anytime, it wants to look at the other dog and react, snap your fingers again, say "shush" and at the same time, hit the boerboel with your foot just a little space under the belly, it would get distracted and not growl again.....you could also make the dog "sit" and continue sitting while the other dog passes by(with someone holding it tho).... now please be informed that dogs reflect our energies and this is why its not advisable to shout when dogs fight, they fight harder....so anytime your alsatian comes a little close to the boerboel to the extent of growling, do all you can to remain calm and not expect a fight....unless your dog would see that tiny energy that you are nervous and would want to do something about the threat(the other dog). p.s...i watch a lot of episodes of "Dog Whisperer" and all the techniques (plus all my personal experience )i have tried have all worked... so please, educate all your family members and make sure the trianing is a continuous thing,,,not just in the night or for three weeks but until both of them can actually play with eachother.... theres room for correction from those that know better 5 Likes 1 Share |

It's not a full breed alsatian. Thanks all for your comments. Would try to get a muzzle and try doeyings suggestion for a week and hope it works cos chaining both dogs almost all the time is annoying. Hoping we won't give any away too |

I don't take things personal on here because its no point. People socialize pitbul that was bred to fight other dogs not to talk of boerbull, a very friendly and lovely breed . I have a dog that killed one of my pups in my yard living in harmony now with virtually with every dog without issue. iPopAlomo: Bro. Olu is very correct in his submission,all animals can live together irrespective of their temperament. First, where the problem lies is in obedience training and proper socialization. People just buy dogs in this part of the world, give them food in the morning, afternoon and night for the lucky ones, put them on leash or crate them and ensure they can bark else they are termed lazy dogs. If the OP should go through proper training as a dog handler or take her time to read and read to equip her self with the required knowledge she can actually help both of them to live together peacefully. I believe there is no breed that can't live together peacefully... all depends on the owner/breeder... depends on the work done on them "Socialization". When dogs r properly socialized, mingling becomes easy. But when all u do is cage them, release @ night, cage again, dey don't even take a walk, what do u expect? Aggression...More over, boerboel is not a fighting dog, so some socialization can still be done, but will take time nd carefulness + experience. but please if u can't handle nd u must keep dem, keep them apart. What you can do is apply a scientific approach: desensitisation and counter-conditioning. Teach the Boerboel that he will be rewarded (with treats) whenever the Alsatian is close to him, and those treats will stop coming when the Alsatian moves away from him. (Search Google for details.) I've seen my uncle's boerboel and his rott... first hand... the rott tolerated it from eight weeks till it got to a year and a half... it became alot bigger than the rott... and stronger... both males... until one day... if not for the timely intervention... it would have killed the rott... the same dogs that have been living together... no be small thing... 2 Likes |
