Let SANDF first go defeat Seleka rebels and Kruger park Rhino poachers controlling SANDF owned army lands. Shame!
.

Why do we have to go fight Seleka?

Poachers are not an SANDF problem.

We have allready shown our worth in Combat with the UN FIB

Iron rods, cables, lanyard, harness are NOT world class military training equipment. Julius Berger construction workers building high rise structures in Abuja have it.

A brigader general is a one star general and just one rank above a Colonel.

There are different ranks of generals, five different ranks. One star general, two star general, three star general, four star general, five star general. Nigeria has all of them aplenty with solid war experience from Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Niger Delta, and North East. That is a Nigerian army quality South African army will NEVER be able to match. Your SANDF will only excel in photography and Hollywood style videos
.

We know how ranks work - we have them as well.

What you dont understand is that a general, of ANY rank, cannot do his job effectively while at the front

And again, training is more important than experience (or else Congolese soldiers would be the best in the world)

The only time experience is relevant is to test whether or not your doctrine works

SAAF Gripen jets barks more than it can bite....Toothless bulldog.

Critical missile shortage....ONLY ONE missile per jet.

Poor missile range.....MAXIMUM 25 km.

SAAF $50 million Gripen jet = NAF $15 million F-7 jet.

South African air force....na wash tonguetongue
.

How does a Gripen jet equal a F-7?

You can make all the missiles you want, manufacturing is different from war capability. Algeria buys missiles from South Africa, yet they will wipe out SANDF in one day
.

South Africa and Algeria will never come to blows

You build your army to defend against likely threats

If they were close enough to be a threat, we will have still maintained the SANDF at the old levels of the SADF (400,000 men in uniform)

And the d.i.c.k measuring contest between Nigeria and South Africa continues. When you kids are done comparing peepees, grow up.

Till then, please post more pics (Nigerian, South African, Ugandan, Namibia, Chadian, etc).

General from the high council, can't lead from the front.

In fact besides boasting morale and offering advice to the commanding officer, they're useless at the front.

You are talking about your useless SANDF. The NA boasts of a rugged hands-on, practical and proactive army in rank and file! Every officer and soldier knows how to improvise on the field. Every General knows when to lead by example. Great army Generals (Napoleon, et al) led by example.

Now we see the real COWARDS OF AFRICA. True confessions of a spineless South African.

I think is time for Nigeria to run to Chad to seek for help again. Your master Chad must rescue you once more.

There is more terrorism in Afghanistan, Philippines, Iraq, ect than Nigeria. ISIS has not been defeated after one year of daily missile attacks from American air force, British air force, French air force, Canadian air force, Jordanian air force, Iraqi air force, etc.

Nigeria is about to set world record as the first country to defeat Islamic terrorism with the barrel of the gun.

Seleka remains the big stain and dent on South African military history, damage done forever tongue tongue

Its 47 a day...and Nigeria has very very limited crime statistic data, thus the fact, not even your government knows how many murders there are in Nigeria

Lagos — An engineering and fabrication feat hitherto the exclusive preserve of Europe, America and Asia have been recorded in Nigeria with the work on the topsides for the Usan floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel at Nigerdock.

At the weekend, the 2nd of a five stages load-out sequence involving the shipment of a total 7500 tons of fabricated steel was recorded.

While explaining the scope of work to those present at the load-out, Mr. Manssour Jarmakani, Executive Director, Nigerdock Plc, at the weekend, disclosed that the first load-out was recorded in April and that it involved the shipment of 981 tons of fabricated steel for the topside integration at the Ulsan yard, operated by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Korea.

The 1st load-out of fabricated steel was for the 'riser support - type 1 & 4 and this was achieved in record time.

The 2nd load-out which commenced at the weekend involved the shipment of 1524 tons of fabricated steel for the 'crew boat landing stair', '10 number P1 and S1 lay down module' and the 'secondary riser support'.

It is expected that the third load-out of the water casing, crane pedestal and collation platform will take place in October 2009, while the 4th load-out involving shipment of the heli-deck support is expected to take place in January 2010.

The 5th and final load-out involving shipment of the mooring protection structure as well as all other topsides items is expected to take place in June 2010.

The local content initiative in Nigeria is a law. Nigerdock is the biggest local shipbuilding and marine engineering firm I know of, but there are more local companies in that sector, hundreds of them at onne and bonny. In 2012 they built and handed over to elf oil&ggas 2 locally designed and fabricated Oil Rigs.

That FPSO is world class by any top standard. I have no doubts in my mind that they can comfortably build Frigates and Corvettes if they decide to start building military grade vessels.

My hope is that in the land systems/mobility side, local companies like Proforce can grow in the shortest possible time to be able to compete with Streit group and poly technologies for the supply of MRAPs and LAVs to the military.

Local content - the only way nigerdock could hope to compete against South African companies in the marine business operating in nigeria.

Prior to that, they couldn't compete.

Shameful.

The construction of Frigates and Corvettes is more than just the welding of steel

You need to develop engines, radar systems, warfare-suites hundreds of steel blends and just as many blends of composits and ceramics, thousands of sub-systems, you will have millions of miscellaneous components which need to be designed and fabricated - each of which will require design and development and economies of scale for industrialization, furthermore you will need tens of millions of lines of code that need to be written and tested. There is a reason that only 1st world and major 3rd world (turkey, china and india) nations are able to construct them.

A better option would be the construction of fleet auxiliary vessels and perhaps large vessels designed for amphibious assault (but not LPH's) and even these will not compete against cheaper options offered by foreign dealers.

Even the construction of quality MRAPs and LAVs is no easy task and requires decades of R&grin followed by many more years of trial and error

Nigeria is still learning to walk, with the construction of the current armored car (its not an AFV or IFV or MRAP) you have. The next step is building on that platform with more bespoke designs. Once that is done, you can consider trying to run with an MRAP, then comes an AFV, then an IFV then a MBT.

Growth must be organic, not forced

Aside from Saipem’s Port
Harcourt yard, which already has full engineering, procurement and construction capability, NigerDock is currently the busiest of its competitors, having stolen the lead from local fabrication yard Dorman Long, South Africa’s Grinaeker, Acergy’s Globestar yard at Warri and the former Willbros facilities, now owned by Ascot Offshore.

The string of disputes marks a departure from the bonhomie of the 1970s and 1980s, when Nigeria led Africa's antiapartheid campaign, furnishing passports and military training to members of the same African National Congress who now rule South Africa.

That's shameful.

Nigeria’s oil service industry has hit a milestone, for the first time a semi-submersible drillship will see maintenance and an upgrade in the country. The Transocean GSF Rig 140 arrived in Nigeria to undergo a planned 80-day maintenance and upgrade at Snake Island, Lagos. Historically the rig would have been sent to another location such as SOUTH AFRICA or Dubai for the upgrade.

Compared to Russia, China, Cuba, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland, Nigeria played a very minor role.
