this is terrible, but i tot anambra state governor made enough money from the state internal fund...
How come this shock news...

^^^The IGR is currently at around 1.1 billion per month; with expectations of it reaching in the neighborhood of 3 billion when all present initiatives being put in place begin to yield fruit!

The state doesn't get much from the federal allocation; it could generate a lot more IGR if its potential economic strengths are developed and leveraged on; when all's put in place and expected returns start coming in, i'm sure the state can afford to pay back $21 million......so all things considered, i don't see what the problem is here! Of course the terms of the loan should be favorable, with payments spread out over a good number of years!

If you have alternative ideas as to how the state can finance the numerous critical projects necessary for its economic takeoff i'm willing to hear!

i can understand that a lot of project is going on in anambra state right now including the airport project, but he should slow down his project if it will cause huge indebtedness to anambra state,i mean picked the important priority ones and economize some of anambra state project.

Bro,i know that project and development is a good thing to behold but it s disheartening if the state's federal allocation is small and the govnor went into borrowing to meet up with expectation and demoralised the economy and the people. .
with huge debt of 23,000million dollar for the past 6mnth outlay, it means that in the future, our beloved governor, willie obiano, will find it difficult to pay the anambrarians civil servants just like what s happening in ekiti or osun state..

You are not getting the point Igboson is making, please re-read his text. Do not get it twisted! Obiano is a technocrat and a chartered accountant of an international standing so he knows how best to approach financial matters, infrastructural funds and how to secure the capital resources. Also as a former bank (ED) he is in the best position to know better than most of us here even the so called advisers on financial matters and how best to go about it.

If loan could be sourced to finance major capital projects for greater economic good then it is very much okay! The loan in question is a far cry as against a particular SE governor who has incurred over 200billion in debts but we are still using microscope to search for the projects executed with such funds prompting the CBN to ban the state from further borrowing because they lack the economic capacity and IGR to repay if they continue on the path of borrowing.

Since Obiano is working on major capital infrastructures that will consolidate the place of the state as a frontline state and further expand the economic gains of the state, then it is advisable that he source some funds to augment the saved funds. Bearing in mind that the IGR of Anambra has been on a steady rise in the last few months. As at last month it was over 1billion and it is expected to rise to over 3billion in the next 1year. So borrowing in itself is not bad but the capacity to repay and with the rising Anambra IGR the state is good to go. Obiano is very focused and committed to deliver and he is delivering already.

Like I told OdenigoAroli in my previous post Gabros team is not built around any big NAME they just enjoy themselves and get needed results.

Enyimba was held to goaless draw in front of their fans at Aba today by Akwa UTD because of the absence of Peter Onyekachi and Kingsley Sokari who were on National assignment with Dream Team. Mfon Udoh though was there could not make much impact due to match rustiness d last time he wore the elephant jersey was in November 24th FA cup final!

Anambra needs exactly all the projects being built such as refinery, Dual carriage way to the Refinery/airport site from Awka and Onitsha. The dual carriage way will open up the land in that area as a new frontier for development of modern cities to make the entire Anambra a true mega city.

What I still seriously doubt its economic viability/wisdom is the use of state funds to build an airport in Aguleri now that there are international airports in Enugu and finally a domestic airport less than 5 kilometers from Onitsha main market at Asaba.
We had all watched with horror how for many many years, the struggle to build an international airport at Oba to service Onitsha main market had been frustrated by many kingpins in Anambra power-play. To God be the glory, a State capital was placed next to Onitsha and immediately the focus of the struggle changed into urging the near by Delta state to put an airport in its capital city which had since broken the jinx of those who compromised Anambra government and swore no airport shall be 100 Kilometers close to Onitsha to protect their luxury bus business.

It is easy to claim that Lufthansa, Turkish airline, British Airways, Delta airlines, Saudi Arabian airline or Malaysia airways will leave Port Harcourt or Accra where they are currently getting ATK aviation fuel to fly into Aguleri for same. We know how easy it had been for us to convince these foreign carriers to connect Enugu or even Asaba inspite of all the facilities in those airports for day and night flights.
My real question is what if the international airlines still prefer to go to PH and Accra to get fuel after the Aguleri airport is built? What would then be the justification for spending billions to build the airport? Where in the world has billions been spent for an international airport to be built solely to sell fuel and not for passenger traffic? This is a serious issue in my opinion to build an airport just to sell fuel.
Chino has already advised me that the airport shall be a PPP initiative of a private investor. In that case, it makes every sense for an individual to build it and manage it as his own personal investment than sinking billions of state money in such white elephant project.

We should use that money for airports craze to build a light rail system that connects Ihiala/ Nnewi axis and Awka/Awkuzu axis directly to Onitsha main market. So that our people living in Awka or Ihiala can simply board a light train and go buy or sell at Onitsha main market and return to their city of residence without paying too much on transportation.Ethiopia borrowed to build and indeed just commissioned a 70 kilometers light rail system for $400 million dollars to connect towns around Addis Ababa. Even if we borrow to build such a project, it will easily pay for itself from the revenue which it will generate from cheaply and conveniently moving millions of people everyday into and out of Onitsha.

All these things will be forgotten in future if there are no solid physical facility to ensure continuity. What obi did in sports was just to meet temporary ends. Building standard sports facility guarantees continuity.
Standard facility guarantees no continuity. Continuity happens when there is a willing govt to carry on whatever programme a predecessor left. The mini stadia Obi constructed are being put to use almost on daily basis.

Quick questions: Assume Anambra just completed a FIFA standard stadium, who in your opinion will be responsible for its upkeep/maintenance? What events in the last one year could it have hosted and how often will the stadium be used for events befitting its status? If leased to a sports team, which team do you think has the capacity to maintain the stadium.

CJ, you have written a very long grammar but I will be brief and blunt. Anambrans are the most traveled poeple in Nigeria. FACT! Anambra is the most populous state after Lagos and Kano FACT! Why then should such a state not see an airport as one of its most important priorities?

The airports in Enugu and Delta are still working today courtesy of mostly Anambra users. The President made a startling revelation in Onitsha recently that one of every three private Jets in Nigeria is owned by an Anambran. Do you know how much we loose as a state in that case?

Again Anambra has the largest trading center in West Africa and West African Trade Center is equally being built. Why should such a state not see airport as a priority? Orient petroleum refinery and its ancillaries are coming on stream soon..and will need an operational airport to thrive. Malls of international standing are equally coming up alongside five star hospitality facilities. For Anambra to be truly among the world destinations which it strives to reach, it must have an International Cargo/Passenger airport which is being built as we speak!

Anambra airport is not being built only because they will be selling ATK, though it is part of it but the above instances are also part of it. Presently it is only Ghana that sells ATK in West Africa, there is no such that exist anywhere in Nigeria and Anambra keying into ATK needs a functional International airport to pull it through.

That said, the airport in question is being financed on PPP basis. Part of the state government contribution is the provision of standard gauge rood infrastructures just like Obiano is already doing and also provision of the land which has also been provided and secured too. Three dual-carriageways has been awarded connecting the airport from the state's major cities. These are part of the enabling envrionment we are talking about and the government is steadily living up to that. This is the reason investors are falling over themselves just to be part of the investments in Anambra.

Bro Chino,
All you have said is true.If the lies in Nigeria's census is corrected, Anambra truly has bigger population than Kano. But, that isn't my point. If resources were unlimited, we would say lets have anything we want. In the light of meager resources which has even got tighter with fall of oil price, we must choose wisely what is of utmost importance to our economic resurgence and not merely ego.
Mind you, let me reiterate that;

I AM NOT AGAINST AN AIRPORT for Onitsha, but built in AGULERI.

Just that it makes no sense to build an airport in Aguleri with state funds, in the light of so many unmet pressing and basic developmental needs in the state.

Obiano has a solid background in accounting and financial matters. He has worked this out before even embarking on it. Like I said recently our IGR went up to over a billion and he has mapped out strategy to move it to over 3 billion this year. He sets targets for himself and strives to achieve them. That is what governance should be about. He will augment the dwindling oil price with our IGR that was what he said at the beginning of the year and he is already living up to that.

Like as I said he has awarded 3 dual carriageways linking the airport. This is a very ambitious government, very soon investor will be scrambling to be part of it because enabling environment and infrastructure is already being provided. He understand the importance of the airport that is why he is pursuing it vigorously.

Anambra's economy is diversified from merchants to industries and now oil and gas- at least I know that the state has the largest bank branches in Nigeria after Lagos. A lot more is happening in Anambra!

Chino nwa mama,

@ the bolded, i am highly elated. We need dual carriage ways linking Onitsha and Awka to Anambra north. It is the final axis with enough land to build the Anambra of our dream that is well planned and wonderful cities. If this airport makes us to finally do the right thing, then so be it.
You already know we have had this argument in the past and we both know each other's position already. So, i won't repeat ourselves again.
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by Schematics: 10:06pm On Mar 08, 2015
CJ nwanne, I put it to you that it makes every sense to site the airport at Otuocha-Aguleri than in a built up city. Otuocha has massive table land suitable for such massive project even in the event of future expansion.

The present location of the airport is about 25mins to Onitsha and about 35-40mins to Awka and 50mins to Nnewi. The airport in question is equally about 2hrs to Kogi state and just an hour drive to Nsukka. Modern airports like the Abuja airport are sited off the major cities to avoid congestion in the future.

The airport is strategically located because it within the precinct of the Orient Petroleum Refinery. A lot of planning has gone into the entire process before it was finally settled for the location.

i can understand that a lot of project is going on in anambra state right now including the airport project, but he should slow down his project if it will cause huge indebtedness to anambra state,i mean picked the important priority ones and economize some of anambra state project.

The man need more economical advice or he wìl end up like jonathan..
QED..

You mean his background and wealth of experience isn't convincing enough for you that he should know he is doing? You are yet to give an alternative suggestion as to how to realize funds for the ongoing transformation projects. $21million is just about 4billion naira which the state can afford when the going gets better with our IGR.

If you don't dare, you don't do great things.

I put it to you that it makes every sense to site the airport at Otuocha-Aguleri than in a built up city.

So you are expecting people from Idah, Kogi state to use Aguleri airport? grin

So you would prefer another sinking of about N100 billion naira to build an airport instead of completing the refinery which would create thousands of good paying jobs and turn Anambra into a petro chemical industries mecca of West Africa??

What about building an IPP with the oil and gas from Anambra to support constant power availability in Onitsha- Nnewi industrial cluster? So the best way to develop Anambra is to build an airport with the available funds?

Of course they have no option than to use the airport because it is even closer to them than their state capital- Lokoja if they have an airport..

You missed the point I made earlier. The airport is being financed on PPP arrangements. Part of the contributions of Anambra State Government is the provision of enabling environment- road infrastructures linking the airport and provision of the land, all these have been met as Obiano just awarded the dual carriage roads linking the airport. The massive land for the project was even acquired 2years ago by Obi.

Bro Chino,
All you have said is true.If the lies in Nigeria's census is corrected, Anambra truly has bigger population than Kano. But, that isn't my point. If resources were unlimited, we would say lets have anything we want. In the light of meager resources which has even got tighter with fall of oil price, we must choose wisely what is of utmost importance to our economic resurgence and not merely ego.
Mind you, let me reiterate that;

I AM NOT AGAINST AN AIRPORT for Onitsha, but built in AGULERI.

Just that it makes no sense to build an airport in Aguleri with state funds, in the light of so many unmet pressing and basic developmental needs in the state.

the airport is part of the orient refinery deal. Will be built by orient so they can sell aviation fuel.. the airport will also 've cargo capacity

If you read Chino's reply well you will understand there are even many more reasons why the state should even go borrowing to finance an airport. It is simply business... you build it, you OWN it; you take home all proceeds from it! Chino even forgot to mention jobs jobs jobs (directly and indirectly) that it will create for the citizens. Do you know plenty more businesses it can help open and sustain... As I said, the state govt will not lose my support even if it decides to finance the project solely. I have been in that sector, and I can tell you it is good business as long as we are talking Anambra state. Forget about status, we are talking good business opportunities that is glaring for those who can see.
