Here is my take and advise: Did they ever do genetic analysis on the previous products of conception? If genetic anomaly is picked up, u both mayb required to see a genetist for chromosomal analysis to ascertain if either or both of you do carry a genetic anomaly that may predispose to these happenstances. Other possibilities have been highlighted partly or wholly. These includes amongst others, lack of luteal support which the progesterone helps with until the placenta is big enough to take over. Antiphosphospholipid antibodies or hypercoagulative states which oral aspirin or clexane injections can help with. I want to believe your wife has had an ultrasound to ascertain endometrial thickness and presence or absence of uterine lesions. Have you had seminal fluid analysis done as well and the need to give up things you ingest such as coffee or cigarette amongst other which may impact on the quality of sperm cells produced. As a lot of posters in some way may have alluded to, PRAY hard and ask those you trust to join you in it. I'm a Doctor in SA and these are just some quick assessment done as part of ongoing work up . 1 Like |

@ Op Am sorry to hear about your situation. I have people close to me that went through the same issue even with IVF, the pregnancy did not go pass 8wks. I will try to itemize my recommendations 1) Draw closer to God as He can work wonders 2) Do not blame your wife or yourself 3) Do not let family and friends give you bad advice and recommendations. It is only you and your wife that knows where the shoe pinches 4) Go and see a perinatalist and fertility doctor for pre-conception counseling 5) Talk to your ob/gyn for HSG test, rhesus factor (The HSG could reveal fibroid, since she gets pregnant easily it cannot be an issue of blocked fallopian tubes. If she has any blockage, the HSG will clear it) 6) Your wife might need to do a D&C (Dilation and curettage is a procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus. Doctors perform dilation and curettage to diagnose and treat certain uterine conditions — such as heavy bleeding — or to clear the uterine lining after a miscarriage or abortion. This is also used to clear out polyps from the uterine lining. 7) Your wife needs to start taking folic acid tablets even if she is not yet pregnant. This has helped a lot of people Take things easy. Do not get yourselves worked up. Have it in mind that you married your wife because you love her and children are added blessing. You did not marry your wife to make babies. Above all the love an unity between yourself and wife should not diminish, she feels the pains more than you do. Wish you all the best. |

sleak: The challenge we have here is where to do all those tests. She actually did some and the result came out good but i m sure many of the above tests have not been suggested by any doc. I don't smoke, drink or take coffee and the last seminal fluid analysis I did was ok. Please if you know where we can carryout these tests kindly let me know. Thanks so much. |

My brother, I share in ur pains. U need to see a gynaecologist for a detailed evaluation. Ur wife has recurrent first trimester miscarriages which has various causes such as luteal phase deficiency, anti-phospholipid syndrome, etc. Progesterone is given in cases of luteal phase deficiency but I don't think ur wife has that. Unfortunately, I don't think we have facilities to diagnose anti-phospholipid syndrome in Nigeria; the ones I've seen were those whose samples were taken abroad including South Africa. Most importantly, the specimens gotten from the evacuations should have been subjected to histopathological analysis: This might have given away the diagnosis and ur wife treated accordingly. My advice is to see a gynaecologist for detailed clinical evaluation. It's well with ur family. God bless u |

Hi worriedhusband, Sorry about ur losses. I am confident that the good God will replenish all abundantly to his glory. From experience, these are possible causes; *Auto immune disorders, e.g. antiphospholipid antibodies, etc. In this case, a lab evaluation is required. **Erythroblastis fetalis caused by rhesus incompatibility if ur wife is rhesus negative while you are rhesus positive. So if she is carrying a rhesus positive fetus and she is already sensitised by previous pregnancy or abortion( even from previous relationships, YES!), her allo antibodies will react against the fetal red blood cells and terminate the pregnancy. So in this case,a lab evaluation will check ur rhesus factors. ***Threatened Abortion possibly from STIs... again test! Test! ****Anembryonic gestation from the implantation of a blighted ovum (or poor quality non- viable embryo possibly contributed by your sperm...YES! It isn't all about her). In this case, a hormonal assay is required to ascertain her FSH/LH level which is usually high in blighted ovum patients, then ur sperm analysis: quality, quantity and motility should be ascertained. *****Chromosomal abnormalities in the resultant embryo. In this case, genetic testing will be conducted to know if there is a chromosomal abnormality which usually do not permit pregnancy progression( a natural way of nature to take care/control of the universe) ******Uterine dysfunction in terms of integrity of the uterine wall, presence of uterine fibroids, production of progesterone and hCG at early pregnancy, etc. In this case, hormones progesterone and HCG levels should be tested in the lab, ultrasound scan should indicate a clear picture of the integrity of the uterine walls, presence or absence of fibroid or abrasion from repeated or 'bad' abortions, etc. ******Unknown aetiology. Yes, in some cases, after detailed investigations, the exact cause remains unknown. I hope I have been able to summarise the possible differential diagnoses. So now, what you should do is to see a fertility expert who will then recommend the required tests for you. In the meantime, abstain from unsafe sex to avoid pregnancy now as her body (uterus/womb) needs time to recover from all the repeated D n C. Now,she should embark on folic acid and vitamin B complex supplementation in the interim and continue way into the next pregnancy(at the right time when u must have seen a fertility specialist ) I hereby recommend the BRIDGE CLINIC, ODUDUWA RD, GRA,IKEJA ,LAGOS. It is a tested and trusted fertility clinic with an avalanche of fertility experts to help. They will recommend the required tests and the good thing is that the have a sound in-house laboratory to handle your tests. If there is a need for further tests not available in Nigeria, they ll fly ur samples to South Africa at NO additional cost. It is better than beating about the bush going to quacks or mere inexperienced who will not tell you that they cannot handle ur case but will be out for your money. Google up for exact contact details. GOODLUCK! Baby dusts to u. 3 Likes |

Medical tests are good enough but the strength of your faith as well as that of your wife determines it all. Just keep believing and NEVER LOSE HOPE. The very minute you lose hope, then even the best gynecologist wouldn't be able to help. The Lord is your strength. |
