I lost 2 of my family friend to gas explosion unfortunately @ the time the doctors went striking. We had no option that to take them to a private clinic where they did little or nothing to salvage them. The Doctors and Nurses where non-chalant. A female Doctoor even made a statement as wicked as " whether they survive or not, that her salaries must be paid". They allowed the burns to get septic and both mother and teenage dota died! 2 Likes |

Some Nigerians are so experienced in pouring out jargons from their blocked head. In a country where President is clueless, Fayose is a governor, Doyin Okupe is involved in public affairs, Obanikoro is just appointed a minister, and Bode George receives a medal, and so on and so forth. U opened yo dirty mouth and start pouring out trash and you want your doctors to be a Ben Carson. Afterall joblessness is a disease 10 Likes 1 Share |

----Any doctor trained in a nigerian teaching hospital knows how things are done in the teaching hospitals. We know how the resident doctors, medical officers and house officers do their work tirelessly. We know about 30 day calls,we know abt no-nonsense senior colleagues,we know about queries,we know about extra calls,we know all about doing more than your very best even in the face of our under - equipped hospitals....... ----Many patients/their relatives see doctors as wicked or lazy or whatever bc we cannot always meet all their expectations with what we have at our disposal.....A patient does not understand that the little blood in d blood bank is strictly for emergency cases (life or death situations),that there may truly not be any more bed space for his admission in a federal teaching hospital, that a medical officer in the emergency room of a govt.hospital may not be able to do much for him unless he makes a deposit bc he is simply following instructions laid down by the same government, that he may need to go somewhere else for certain investigations/tests cos the govt has not made provisions for such in some of their hospitals.....etc -----I understand all these,i understand patients'/their relatives' frustrations cos they may not know how things really are. ---- What i do not understand is how someone who claims to be a doctor, who might actually have graduated from one of the medical schools in nigeria, someone who is not one of the uninformed, will make allegations as unfounded as what the OP made. ----I was in medical school for six years, did housemanship for one year, then came back for residency after NYSC...8 years altogether(in the same teaching hospital),i have witnessed/heard of only one maternal death,a case of eclampsia, brought in from a maternity home after patient had had several episodes of seizures...and i still remember how solemn the handing-over round was in O/G dept the next morning. The CMAC was even around... ----Nobody ever buys blood from outside d hospital if on admission in a teaching hospital. ...you are only asked to bring a donor who is screened n bled right in the hospital's lab. ----An emergency case is never turned away in a teaching hospital,be it a criminal/gunshot case. All you need to do is report to the necessary authority even as you are resuscitating. ----I can not speak for private hospitals, cos my experience there is quite limited, but i find it hard to believe that all these callousness/malpractice abound there ----I know there are some bad/uncaring doctors, just like there are bad eggs amongst every group of professionals anywhere in the world, what i dont understand is the generalisation. ---- I lost my mum in my teenage years due to what i believe was a doctor's carelessness, but even then,as a young girl,i was not stupid enough to conclude that all doctors were monsters just cos of that... ---I rest my case..... 20 Likes |

Most naija doctors are just after money. I am diabetic and the doctor who was managing the condition was dare DEVIL, I almost died and I developed neuropathy because of his useless advise and treatment not until I met an old family friend who is a gynea that God used in bringing me back to life and still having foot pains. a doctor who could not tell me to get a common glucose meter to be checking my sugar level always, instead he will say come to the hospital for your test always. 1 Like |

tchiwinnie:what condition are you talking about exactly? Have you really been to standard Nigerian hospital lately? Some of the hospitals are state of the art... But most Nigerian doctors just simply suck. Most goes into the profession for prestige and not exactly for passion. No research, nothing nothing... They can only handle small sickness like malaria... The surgeons are the suckest.. If Nigeria surgeon operates on 10 patients, there is probability that 5 would die.. Go to general hospitals and see something yourself. 3 Likes |

To me. This police reports stuff doesn't make much sense. What stops the doctor from continuing with the treatment of the injured person while the nearest police station is contacted ? Due diligence can be done whilst the endangered life is being saved... Very simple process.. my bosses will say, Use your head 2 Likes |

Oildichotomy: Silly thread from an ignorant fellow. Running down Drs, quoting cases she knows nothing about just because there are the usual gullible people ready to jump on the. 'Drs are bad' bandwagon. just to disprove one of ur 'examples', women on an average register in 2 hospitals for antenatal. one private and one gov't, just so they have options, so they can have a choice in their delivery(which private hospitals tend to give) and also , considering the wonderful transport situation, for convenient transportation. Every hospital has their policies and anyone who registers there has To abide by those policies, same as all over the world. Imagine you making noise about gunshot cases.. if Nigerians with all the limitations you talked about still pullout medical miracles, without resorting to a plethora of investigations because they're lazy to reason, then maybe it's time u stfu . sometimes I watch foreign medical shows and laugh. Heard someone using Dr House as an example, I laughed...if a Dr were to operate like that here, he'll lose >60% of his patient...Truth. The problem with Nigerian health care is 60% the patient who in his/her ignorance chooses to do things his/her way. Finally, fyi, DOCTORS ASK FOR POLICE REPORT SO THEY DON'T END UP TREATING AND DISCHARGING CRIMINALS BY MISTAKE. I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN TIME &TIME AGAIN. also, IT IS REQUIRED BY LAW. Get your facts right.. enjoy ur obodo oyinbo. #am out #ignoranceisannoying. 3 Likes |
