Nigerian Military Trained By Technical Advisers
Clement Ejiofor, 3 hours ago

Email050

Senior military commanders have dispelled recent media rumours that Nigeria is deploying hundreds of mercenaries against Boko Haram terrorists, describing the information as a joke taken too far.

According to the officers, the foreigners are technical advisers that are providing trainings and instructions on the use of new armaments recently procured by the Nigerian military in the war against insurgents.

Speaking with PRNigeria, some top commanders insisted that it is part of propaganda to paint Nigerian Army as incompetent to deal with the insurgency by desperately ascribing recent spate of successes to ‘others’ rather than the gallant troops’ efforts.

The anonymous source also recalled that recently some news agencies ascribed such successes to Cameroonian, Nigerien and Chadian forces while it was obvious that the forces of those countries were mainly fighting along their own border blocking free movement of terrorists.

The source further cited the particular example of the maintenance technician, who died recently, stressing that he was not even a combatant but a professional in fixing armour vehicles.

President Goodluck Jonathan in his interview with Voice of America confirmed that Nigeria has some trainers helping to get troops well acquainted with the recently acquired weapons.

“We now have this technical people who are trainers and technicians, who are to train our people on how to use them, and technicians that help the maintenance, at the same time training our people how to maintain this equipment,” the president said. The source added with regrets, that Nigeria wasted several years while negotiating and appealing for equipment supply from the Western allies which were not only rebuffed but prevented other countries from selling to Nigeria.it

I don't know if I should cry with you or what, but, everything will be fine. Don't worry we won't raise this issue of mercenaries again because I can see that you are trying by all means to twist it but it just don't work. Mercenaries are called with whole number of names, some call them contractors, while some call them mechanics, some even go as far as branding them technicians, etc. What I like is because these people they know well that it is crime to use mercenaries in any war since it violate international law. They will try by all means to protect themselves. Shame!!

The most modern wire guided torpedoes getting defeated easily :

Anti-torpedo countermeasure system for surface ships The C310 is an anti-torpedo countermeasure system for surface ships, designed to cope with current and future generations of active and/or passive torpedoes, wire or non wire-guided, launched alone or in salvo mode . Surface vessels deploy such devices during the course of predetermined evasive counter-manoeuvres, to maximise the ship survivability against modern torpedo attacks. The C310 system includes two types of effectors – stationary jammers and mobile target emulators - and a launching system. This latter is composed of a control computer, junction boxes and two trainable launchers, carrying a number of compressed air barrels. The number of barrels per launcher is 12 or 8, according to the customer's operational requirement and the ship type. Each barrel is loaded with the relevant effector (jammers or l\/ITE) and consists of a launch tube, an air bottle and an electro-valve. The launcher is capable of launching the effectors at several hundreds metres from the ship.

Sorry bro, your wire guidance is wasted along with your unlucky torpedo tonguetongue

.
Just like IR Missiles.

This counter-measures are designed to counter the torpedo's seeker, problem is you don't know when you deploy them whether the torpedo seeker's turned on.

In all submarines are deadly to surface fleets. The Falklands war proved how deadly diesel powered subs can be, able to go on combat patrol and leaving the combat area to recharge batteries.

Today your navy stands not even 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000,1% chance against SAN.

If we need to explain why the summery execution of human beings is wrong, we cannot accuse Nigerians of being human beings.

Terrorists who send kids as young as 5years old unwittingly to their deaths deserve no pity. Terrorists who leave kids so traumatised, that they forget their names deserve a slow painful death.

You're probably too stup1d to see that the Geneva convention rules do not apply to these people.

Just because it says so on beegugugug's blog doesnt mean it is true. Think for yourself.

I've never denied the Nigerian government hires mercenaries. It's nothing strange is our long military history, we've always employed their services. Security contractors are part of modern wars, the Americans use them extensively in both Iraq and Afghanistan, same as the british.

The President has confirmed the use of mercenaries, and have spelt out their role. I've got no problem with that.

Falkland war ? Mumu cheesy cheesy

Britain used a 1971 Nuclear submarine to sink an Argentine 1939 ancient warship that has NO SINGLE anti-submarine defences and NO SINGLE torpedo.

LOL....Me too I can use AK-47 rifle to kill Shaka Zulu and his ancient spear from 400 meters away.

Today, modern navies have anti-torpedo countermeasures to defeat all kinds of current and future submarine torpedoes.

drafting mercenaries to maximize certain loopholes in terrorist acute defences is a strategy utilized by even world military powers.
Albeit, the south african nationales currently stationed in the north east are only for technical support and equipment training; which may include physical engagement on the battlefield, due to the fact that we dont have the luxury of testing our hardwares before battle.

sources have told Al Jazeera that
mercenaries from South Africa and other
countries are actually playing a decisive
fighting role on the frontlines.
A senior Nigerian non-commissioned officer,
who is on active duty and was wounded by
Boko Haram, said foreign mercenaries are
doing the bulk of the fighting in towns the
Nigerian military says it has recaptured from
Boko Haram.
The officer said that the Nigerian military still
suffers from a lack of equipment and low
morale, and that without the mercenaries'
help, these towns would still be held by Boko

What i find amazing.....a credible South African engineering company will send it's highly trained engineers and technicians to train Nigerians in the middle of a hot, dangerous battle zone. Men with families back home, good standards of living, good carreer prospects will go into a battle zone, front line, bullets flying. Almost having to shoot at Boko Haram themselves, since Nigerian soldiers are apparently still clueless at doing this.

No standard engineering company will send its employees into such danger. You cannot be above age 12 and believe the "providing technical training on new equipment story" grin grin grin. Companies who are willing to send employees into such conditions, would send men who have been in war zones before and have seen hard, heavy combat.

You can keep lying to yourself and believe these men are just walking around there with spanners and grease. When everyone knows they are highly skilled fighters. grin

Your statement is full of untruths. As regard your insinuation concerning the number of black pilot, yes it is true, but the number of black pilots in private airlines is starting to build up. Concerning Naval personnel, large majority of our navy is black from Admirals to seaman. Do you think that the ANC is an ornament that decorate the room for nothing?

However, with the number of black doctors, you are wrong at every corner. Remember, during the yesteryears of apartheid, SA had a policy of segregation that saw blacks having their own homelands which are equivalent of states in Nigeria. Some of these homelands were Bophuthatswana, Trankei, KwaZulu, Venda, Lebowakgomo, Qwaqwa, Ciskei, etc. These homelands used to have universities of their own managed by blacks. We used to have our own black doctors in these homelands. Now the number of black doctors has since even tripled the number of white doctors long ago in democracy and is now even now sky rocketing. Medicine is not a rocket science dummy.

Let us not derail the thread please!!! Back to military discourse.

#BackToMilitaryDiscourse.
don't be overheated.

You said there are thousands of black southafrican doctors abroad as expatriates. I called you a petty, tactless, spineless lier.

Why would anyone think that no engineering firm can send its "highly trained" technicians to train our troops in a warzone?,arent companies established for the sole purpose of making profit?.
Moreover, certified companies that produce military hardwares normally own a technical unit of specially trained engineers/mechanics with necessary military training, who can operate all equipments in a combat situation if needed.
This may be the situation in the NE,the foreign technicians may,at some point, accompany our troops to the warfront, for the sole purpose of assisting our troops in operating newly purchased sophisticated military hardwares, since our troops cannot readily operate them.

No South African engineering company will send its engineers and technicians to a foreign, active war zone. When i say war zone i mean the actual front line. Training on equipment can be provided to troops, in a quiet, non conflict zone. It is then up to that country's specific army to develop the tactics and maneuvers of how best they want to utilize that equipment.

I have even purposefully left out the most important part, which you clearly have not even thought about. No South African company can fight a war, or engage in a battle on behalf of another country. It is stated law. If our defence minister says mercenaries will be arrested on return, what do you think will happen to registered, tax paying companies? They will be shut down immediately, never to produce one single bolt of a Reva armoured car again. You think the owners and producers of Reva vehicles will risk their company, profit and future orders over Boko Haram? Willing to have their company shut down over Boko Haram and Nigeria? Think again.

Equipment can be supplied. But providing combat assistance on an active war front is illegal. So keep believing the "on the job training" story. It is highly trained, battled hardered mercenaries on the front line. Being paid in cash, and who are hard to trace. Those are the men fighting for you. Not an engineer with a Bsc degree coming over to risk their lives.

that being said, a country can buy weapons from a company and contract another private firm to bring in mercs who have experience with such weapons to train it's forces how to use them on the field. especially in the case of Nigera. therw just wasn't time for training on these new weapons. which military doesn't require training for new weapons?

As Heitman said, its all dependent on our foreign policy

KC-130 for a domestically based defence policy
A400M for a continental based policy

never has a single acquisition provided such insight to governmental long term defence planning

Personally, I would say the C-130J is a better option than the A400M as it has a bigger base-payload (despite a smaller vehicular based payload) and more options interms of a tanker and and maritime patrol as well as AWACS - not to mention we have the only certified C-130 maintenance and re-fit plant on the continent

A400M is just a tactical lift pretending to be a strategic lift

FYI, heitmans suggestion of the Alenia C-27J Spartan and CASA C-295M operating as a light-lift combo gave me the biggest military hard-on I have had in a while
