So, people still pay for placement? Got about 3 peeps who wanna influence mine for me for free(Kaduna, Niger, Taraba or Nasarawa on my mind) But that altering of destiny is what my mama is concerned about. She be like, i'm praying to God and he'll influence ya posting a place which'll favor you. You musn't influence it. But what if her prayers land me in Abia or Ebonyi? |

Nice write up. I admire your writing skills. I enjoyed every bit of your funny story. As for me, NYSC was a bitter-sweet experience. I served in Oyo state from 2004 - 2005. Orientation camp days were fun, i was a platoon leader, a renowned mami market customer. As a platoon leader, i thought I would get a good PPA in Ibadan but I shock wen I see one Ajaawa LGA for my letter. At the end I enjoyed my PPA because the one year was stress free and we didn't have much to do after school hours. I believe NYSC is a program one need to experience. I would say i made more close friends during the one year period than my entire 4 + n years in the university. Till date, i still keep in touch with friends I made in my NYSC days. |

The most important thing after service is to get a rewarding job, it was a different environment for me too in obubra in c/river state in 2008, it was dat experience that leverage my suffering in my one year police training as a cadet ASP. |

Thank you guys for your comments, thank you Nairaland for the feature. I'm so humbled. Meanwhile, you won't believe this lady is still jobhunting. Maybe if I influenced my service to Lagos, I would have probably been dating one rich boy I met in camp who would have introduced me to his NNPC father in Abuja for that dream job. Hehe Can you imagine after all those early morning drills, I have never attended a job interview where I have been asked to 'march' in or stand at attention while I answered questions. NYSC is funny. Please don't forget to visit my blog. http://www.naijasinglegirl.com is the url. Happy weekend. |

Wonderful narration, with an expert mix of humour. For me camp wasn't as terrible, we had toilets and bathrooms but we still prefered the bush and open air.... The food wasn't so good but manageable, my must difficult time was registration..... that was when I discovered that some Nigerian graduates can't write; filling the damn form was a harculean task. And the event I dreaded most was the boring afternoon lectures..... as a sharp guy, the lecture period became my nap period, I devised a way of asking my flatmates (yeah flat, we had bathrooms & toilets enclosed...) to lock me up with padlocks from the outside.. and frequenting the camp clinic was another way of escaping parade, I had a strain ankle playing camp football (the best part of my camp experience), though it didn't deter me from playing in all the games... The strain had a way of coming back after the games but disappearing when we had games (if u know what I mean). We won the inter platoon camp tourney, we were good but had to out-bribe the referee, when we learned that our opponents had bribed him. |
