The KC-390 is rubbis..h buying it would be a political goal.

If SAAF had a bigger budget I'd support getting the C-17 but it has jet engines.

Maybe the Ambrear as our tanker?

It could make a great tanker/EW/CnC platform

they are allready pushing hard for us to get it (see pic)

The KC-390 comes in quite a few variants, but personally ill get it as a transport only for an EW platform ill go for the airbus C295 and for a tanker ill go for the a330 mrtt it has a much better range and if we decide to buy the A400m and C295 we could get a better deal for all 3 aircraft.

Nope - exibiting skills and capabilities you could only dream of

1. We deployed C130's, DAK's, CASA's and Oryx to the DRC to help with elections - again with short notice

2. We mobilized and deployed under 12 000 SANDF personel to Qunu in under a week for Madiba's funeral

3. We deployed a battalion of men, Gripen, Rooivalk, Oryx and C130's to DRC in under a week after the CAR

SANDF are generations ahead of Nigeria in terms of logistical organization and pulling off effective operations

We have capabilities you can only dream of

[size=13pt]

Hollywood expert SANDF :

Combat history chart, worst military achievement list, Internet-Web Based-Online Military of South Africa...

1. The number 1 mission was political election job....INEC and police duty grin

2. The number 2 mission was a funeral ceremony....MIC casket undertakers duty grin

3. The number 3 mission was after battle as ended, nothing to do.....Latecomers/Cowards duty grin

Nigerian air force flew over 6,000 combat sorties in few months, even firing guided missiles !

South Africa's military ranking is looking close to that of Botswana, honestly !

Global Firepower needs to see the above list !

SANDF has a virtual internet based military, this force is not real o ! grin

Congo army takes M23 rebel stronghold

http://news.yahoo.com/congo-army-takes-m23-rebel-stronghold-143440763.html

Again, SA no where to be found
The fall of Bunagana? The last M23 stronghold their military base.

The Fall.

When their president's convoy fled into Uganda?

When they cut down trees in the hopes of halting the FARDC and the FIB's advance?

When they attempted to down the bridge leading the "town"?

When they cried on twitter that they were battling SA and Tz forces not FARDC.

By this time their force was split, this wasn't a huge battle FIB supported them with logistics.

Why do you say its rubbish? Compared to the C-130J, the KC-390 is 15% faster, carry an 18% heavier payload, and cost 59% as much to purchase. And although having a 15% shorter range than the C-130J, the KC-390 has an aerial refueling capability as a standard feature (only a few specialized sub-variants of the C-130 have an aerial refueling capability),Ruggedized landing gear allows the KC-390 to take-off from or land on any hard and flat surface, including dirt airstrips typical of front line bases and has basically the same take off and landing distance as the c-130j.

As for the C-17, whats wrong with it having jet engines? If SAAF ever buys it, its solely going to be used for strategic airlift roles.
The KC-390 might be beautiful but it is small and rubbish.

Jet engines require more logistics and have higher maintenance costs compared to turboprop engines.

Again look at the places our forces deploy to CAR, DRC etc these places don't have massive airports.

The SSTD detects torpedoes - that is all

While the SSTD is only really effective against ancient Soviet ERA torpedoes

Development of the SSTD helps cover a serious threat to major U.S. ships from Soviet-designed torpedoes initially developed in the 1960s, naval analyst Norman Friedman told USNI News.

And now the killer blow: The system that destroys the torpedoe is not in service:

NAVSEA has more testing for the SSTD system scheduled for this year and plans to have the CAT and TWS reach so-called initial operational capability by 2019 and Fleet wide adoption of the system by 2035.
http://news.usni.org/2013/06/20/navy-develops-torpedo-killing-torpedo

So, the facts remain unchanged: A South African Heroin Class submarine defeated an entire NATO task force

And again, I ask you show us a NATO warship armed with anti-torpedo countermeasures

I showed you, HMS Daring and HMS Duncan among others have been operating SSTD since OVER 6 YEARS AGO !

The USA naval fleet is testing a new SSTD to add the ones they already have, that's the 2035 date, but for OVER 10 YEARS AGO, NATO ships have deployed SSTD anti-torpedo weapons, I only posted the US Navy new tests to prove you wrong when you claimed the SSTD only detects enemy submarine torpedoes, you told a big lie and I proved you wrong, SSTD detects and destroys submarine launched torpedoes.

NATO fleet fooled the whole South African navy when they deceived your car washerman level Soweto brains that SAN have sunk a NATO warship in war game.....fools grin grin

But with a dedicated air tanker in the class of MRTT the Gripens can reach almost everywhere on the continent fully armed.

In my opinion an EW/CnC aircraft must have long endurance and range. Able to follow the Gripens everywhere on the continent without refueling.

Again during emergencies "air lifters"(KC-390, C-130, A400M etc) will be lifting troops, vehicles, ammunition including our aircraft bombs, missiles & rockets and helicopters.

But I think it would be good politically for SA to buy it.

Your source:

"The Congolese army retook one of the last remaining strongholds of the M23 rebels."

So who retook the rest?

United Nations force, the FIB that included Tanzania, Malawi, and the artillery forces of Tanzania, the special forces of Tanzania, and air combat support by Ukranian air force Mi-35 Gunships, all under the command of a Tanzanian army brigadier general. That war has too much multinational African and European content for South Africa to take any glory beyond 20%. The Tanzanian army D-30 artillery units wrecked M23 positions before SANDF could team up with other ground troops and move in.

That Congo DRC M23 war has too much mixed UN multinational armies and air forces input, it's hard for any country to claim more glory than others

Where were these stored? Buried? Why aren't they in pallets?

I don't know where to start cause this is basic pre-positioning of forces prior to launching, your military failing badly here.

I don't why you Nigerian are so blinded by patriotism, that you protect such rebel standards.

SAAF has shortage of aviation fuel for the tiny fuel tanks of Gripen jets, now you want to buy giant size air to air refuelling tanker aircraft.

What fuel will your tanker load when you have no aviation fuel, Cooking oil or Palm oil ?

Well its bigger than the c130 and has a better payload but all of this is irrelevant if we want to deploy in the DRC, CAR, ect ect and be able to transport our Ratels,Badger and rooikat then the only option would be the A400M, im sure 10 A400Ms will suffice.

NATO hires them to do task that their more valuable men in uniform would be wasted on, things like guarding low risk instillations or infrastructure, providing protection to humanitarian operations ect

No one hires private contractors to OPERATE THEIR EQUIPMENT FOR THEM

PMC aren't Hired in Nigeria to operate Nigerian equipment, excerpt in cases where trainings have to be carried out on the go, like with the Army's recently inducted Gazelle Helicopters.

No...it was, there are no South African merceneries in Nigeria! Why has this topic gone on for so long? Because u said "its true, no fuss" at the beginning? Nooo...it was denied.

So you can take your "no fuss" and shove it. Its too late now.

The parts of your comment I bolded still cannot be proven.

The Nigerian government hired a Nigerian Firm (Pilgrims Security). Mr lutz worked for a Nigerian Private Security company as a mechanic.

This is the fact.

We have never denied hiring Private contractors, we've been using them for more than 50 years.

The british, Americans, chinese, Brazilians, russians et al, all use them.
