REMEMBER 1986? How Jonathan Saved Nigeria From Its Imminent Worst Disaster by paullo240: 10:03pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
August 21, 1986. 1,700 people and 3,000 herds of cattle and other livestock died after the eruption of a volcanic Lake Nyos in Cameroon. The Lake represents the biggest ecological (flood) threat to Nigeria. This disaster, if allowed to occur, will destroy several states in Nigeria especially Taraba, Benue, Cross River, Kogi and Delta and it is imminent. (Think about Haiti for 1 Minute, that’s a real Disaster there!) What did Jonathan do? Yes it his Job (Hian)! Were there not many other governments and Presidents in this Country that did nothing about it? But no, he would not wickedly, or like the others before him ignore the future’s ugly reality. President Jonathan gave competent Female Minister Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe the go-ahead and approved 100% funding of $1bn for one of the country’s most ambitious Projects; the Kashimbilla Multipurpose Buffer Dam Project which will not just prevent the devastating flood but harness its potentials to become a Major Source of Life. The Dam presently at over 90% completion will now serve to ensure; Water Supply (60,000 Cu.m/Day), Irrigation (Net – 2,000Ha) and provide Electricity – Hydropower generation: (40MW). The Scope of the Project covers: Construction of the Main Dam; Construction of Water Treatment Plant; Construction of an Access Road; Construction of an Hydropower Plant; Development of Irrigation Network; Construction of Air Strip and Rehabilitation of Kashimbilla – Jato-Aka road (21km). To date, remarkable progress has been achieved in all the various parts of the project. The Kashimbilla Dam project is therefore a proactive preemptive response by the Federal Government of Nigeria to the report of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) of great catastrophe that might result from imminent collapse of Lake Nyos. What should be done for a man who has done this much? Thank him!

It is impossible for GEJ to rule for 6years and not have atleast one or two positive achievments attached to his name even has tyranic and Wicked Gen Abacha was he still several positive pojects and developments Obasanjo, Murtala Muhammed , Gowon all had their positives and their collective failures and successes lead us to this Present state of Nigeria I believe Praise should be awarded when praise is earned and if what you posted is true then GEJ deserves praises for that project BUT GEJ failures out weigh is success and that's why there is a problem, Failures in 1 Economy - Value of the Naira is presently sitting at 230 to a dollar, 2 Corruption - well we all know the level of corruption during this present administration from Pardoning Alaymesia to Alison Madueke to Aba moro to stella odua, The list goes on and on 3 Security- This one explains itself 4 Electricity- 16 years of PDP and look at our power situation,6 years of GEJ and we still generate 3600MW, and the PHCN is starting to commit daylight robbery with its charges......Imagine electricity bills double in the last year alone with out any significant effect in the quality of service 5 Health- Imagine hospitals have been on strike and nobody seems to give a danm. Its the poor man who dosnt have money to go to Private hospitals that are mostly affected, People are dying daily from this menace and apart from the Govt not caring , The citizens don't even care about each other. GEJ dam project should be applauded and also is revolution in the Agric sector but there are soooooo many things wrong in this country and GEJ body language and attitude dosnt sound like someone serious about fixing the country if giving another 4 years, This election is not even about Buhari but rather about the how GEJ has failed NIgerians, HE promised us so much but we are the one suffering the consequencies of voting for him in 2011.
