ALL THE MEDIA SOURCES CONFIRM THE PRESENCE OF SOUTH AFRICA MERCENARIES....FOR NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT TO DENIED THE MAJOR ROLE OF THESE MERCENARIES IS UNDERSTANDABLE FROM THE POINT OF FAILURE BY NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES TO DEFEAT BOKO HARAM ON THEIR OWN...CHAD AND CAMEROON HAVE HELPED A LOT: Multiple media reports appear to have confirmed the presence of elite South African mercenaries on the front lines of Nigeria's war against the extremist militants of Boko Haram. Their alleged involvement brings new focus to the internationalization of the conflict in Nigeria, which has pulled troops from a host of neighboring countries into the fray. The suspected presence of mercenaries was first reported by Reuters. The report confirmed that hundreds of mercenary fighters from South Africa and countries in the former Soviet Union were already on the ground in northeastern Nigeria, including in the city of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, which is at the heart of Boko Haram's bloody insurgency. www.washingtonpost.com/.../south-african-mercenaries-join-nigerias-fight [Video: Nigeria pushes back Boko Haram militants] Nigerian officials have said publicly that foreign contractors are simply helping with the training of Nigerian forces, but anonymous sources have confirmed to various outlets that the mercenaries are indeed playing a far more direct role in the fight. "They are playing a very important role," a senior Nigerian official told the New York Times, describing how mercenaries have helped roll back Boko Haram's advance. "They are in the vanguard in the liberation of some of the communities. They came in with much more sophisticated equipment than the military. Thanks to their involvement the tide is turning. I believe because of them we will witness a seismic shift." At least one South African private contractor, 59-year-old Leon Lotz, has been reported killed in clashes with Boko Haram. Boko Haram, an Islamist terrorist group that's now a self-proclaimed affiliate of the Islamic State, has carved a gruesome trail through northern Nigeria and carried out attacks also in neighboring Cameroon and Niger. They have abducted hundreds of people and slaughtered thousands -- more than 4,700 people just last year -- and continued their operations despite a heavy-handed Nigerian military response. The threat posed by Boko Haram even prompted the Nigerian government to postpone national elections, originally scheduled for last month, to the end of March. A coalition of 8,700 troops from Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin have also joined the battle. A joint offensive into Nigerian territory by forces from Niger and Chad recently managed to wrest a number of towns away from Boko Haram's clutches. |

21 navies unite against maritime crimes in the Gulf of Guinea March 13, 2015 Written by Precious Igbonwelundu To contain illegal activities in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) region, navies of 21 countries across the world have indicated interest to deploy their men and material for this year’s Operation Obangame Exercise. Obangame is a Cameroonian word for togetherness. The exercise, which is being coordinated by the United States African Mission, has ran for four consecutive years with Nigerian Navy (NN) actively participating. Slated to begin on March 19 in Ghana, the exercise, which will last eight days, will cover the entire GoG region. Briefing reporters at a pre- exercise conference held onboard the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Okpabana, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC) and the regional coordinator for the exercise, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango said five NN platforms- three ships and two boats- as well as one Nigerian Navy helicopter will participate in this year’s OBANGAME Express. The vessels, according to Rear Admiral Ango, are NNS Thunder, NNS Okpabana and NNS Centenary; Shaldaq boat, NNS Ikot-Abasi, as well as Nigerian Air Force maritime patrol aircraft. Ango stated that a total of 18 vessels will participate in the operation, adding that the focus would be on the interoperability and cooperation of the regional navies in pursuing criminals from the waterways. He said countries such as the USA, UK, Belgium, Ghana, São Tomé and Principe, Spain, Turkey, Denmark, Portugal, Gabon, Congo and Central African Republic will take part in the countries as well as Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Benin Republic, Angola, Brazil, Cameroon, France and Norway. The FOC, who said NN has benefitted greatly in its four years participation in the exercise noted that it provides opportunity for participating nations to find lasting solution to illegalities at sea to boost commerce and international trade. Highlighting the need to jointly tackle the security challenges of piracy, poaching, smuggling, oil theft, trafficking and other transnational crimes, Rear Admiral Ango maintained that the exercise will strengthen the hot pursuit rules of the regional navies for more effective collaborations. “For four years now, we have participated in Operation Obangame to enhance maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. “ |

one after the other the lies of the so called respected media will be exposed. i only pity these south african fish brains Nigerian troops have commenced counter terrorism assault in damasak,a Nigeria-Niger border town. According to PRNigeria, reports that surfaced last week about chadian troops recapturing damasak and malam fatori from boko haram was confirmed to be false. A Nigerian senior military official has confirmed that troops are currently routing boko haram from damasak. Earlier this week,Chad withdrew its soldiers from Nigerian border towns back into fotokol in cameroon after suffering severe humiliation from boko haram terrorists.Chad has been suspected of sabotaging nigeria's effort against boko haram, yet it enjoys public support and admiration while churning out devastating propaganda. .http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/military-battles-boko- haram-for-border-town-of-damasak/204150 6 Likes |

Thiza The truth is GEJ has laid a BAD PRECEDENT by hiring SA(old apartheid era police unit),Ukraine,French etc..mercenaries to fight a war in NE Nigeria. Especially for a country like Nigeria that has a history of coups. For me this was a DUMB MOVE and proved right what ya'll have been saying here. That AN are weak and their weaponry is INFERIOR. Honestly speaking he should have bought weapons from SA and elsewhere and allowed foreign troops to come and train their weak Nigerian army. after the elections am sure the losers will be tempted to bring their own mercenaries. Watch this space. Note: Mercenaries will go with the highest bidder. we might see em making a U TURN. NIGERIA FOR SALE!!!!!!!!! 1 Like

I don't know on what basics this argument was started in the first place. I am a Nigerian But south africa is like ages above nigeria. the comparison cannot be argued. though nigeria is richer than south africa but nigerias problem lies with our greedy politician who only know how to loot and this present administration has made it worst. nobody wants to be associated with a failed state and nigeria is a fail state under this present administration..... south africans, please rock your world, you guys deserve to above nigeria in every aspect... nigerian army cant stand SANDF sophisticated and modernised equipment anyday with just their rickety AK47.
