Feminism talk on TED talks? Uhmmm...tot she spoke just once. (The Dangers of a Single Story). And we all should be feminists? I am a firm believer in equal rights for women. However, I still believe giving it a toga, an ideaology...the feminist movement has made people like me less wary of the whole ish. I believe too much of everything is bad. Let us leave it as it is.

And on Adichie, well, Adichie is good, I won't take that away from her. But, for someone who never stops to tell her audience how much she holds Achebe in high esteem, how she benefitted from Achebe's tutor ship...Achebe this, Achebe that...I think that name has opened a lot of doors for her and was probably a massive springboard to where she has found herself today. I have never enjoyed any of her work. I had to force myself to finish 'Half of a Yellow Sun'. And the movie? Well, not as good as we were meant to believe. Ejiofor knew that...ever wonder why '12 Years a Slave' did better than the former? I believe(my opinion though)that she is overrated. I know a lot of writers who wrote better than her and yet are still struggling to get a single book out there. But for a Professor's daughter and an Achebe student, doors would definitely open for you.

Well, i'm not to debate on her literary ability. I have read two of her books and was fascinated -- Americanah and Purple Hibiscus.

As for her getting popularity through Achebe and her professor's father; Lola Shoneyin is also a feminist and writer, who is married to Wole Soyinka's son.
Wole is widely known as Nobel prize laureate but she hasn't amassed popularity like that of Adichie. I think Adichie is only appreciating Achebe's help towards her. If she don't mention Achebe, y'all would say she is rude and ingrate.

We all should be a feminist is an extract from Dangers of a single story and Beyonce also extracted it which she used in her album.

Last point, what endears me to Adichie is her superb ideology and beliefs. Nothing else. wink

Same way I love Adele, Opray winfrey, Ellen De'genere etc
