Lol. I'm sure your mum must've been doing this. Many reasons attribute to this practice. 1st, to avoid fight among siblings; 2ndly, to ensure evenly distribution of the available food among all accordingly (with most times putting age in consideration). The senior ones are given the more bigger size than the junior ones.

Let's share the memory of those old days.
In tears... oh mama RIP.

I grew up with my grandparents. All the men. Eat together in one big blow ( igba). I was later separated from the rest when my grandpa noticed I always get cheated as I can't eat fast and I don't like hot food.

Well, the only thing that makes this look funny is because of the setting. Probably a low income home with no dining room/set.
If you transfer this to a beautiful dining room with a large dinning set and cutleries, it will be Bon Apetite cheesy

ummm actually i and my siblings ate from the same plate when we were growing up. Our parents wanted us to learn to accomodate and tolerate one another. We still do so sometimes.

Lolz mine was different cos we where like seventeen in my house, not from one woman tho and there was always a house help even tho they don't stay long cos of one of my step moms...so we had a sort of food time table drafted in the kitchen and pasted for all to see grin...lolzz i remember we used to rap to the list then.We would skip when they prepared something we don't fancy..but sometimes when you come home late you meet nothing cos some ppl get double compartment for belle & u hv to wait for the next meal or help urself to the fridge. The food table abi food roster was cray*** grin grin

In my own house, my mom calls all four of down to the kitchen before serving our meals because she detests leftovers. So she asks us to clearly state if the food served is enough or to take away from it. For the meats or fish as the case may be, my elder brother does the sharing favoring himself the most.
Back then, we only eat meat or fish with dinner and we usually have nothing on our breakfast meals. why? I don't know. But that doesn't stop my dad from having multiples of those on each of his meals. Well, he's always been treated like king in the house anyway.
