meforyou1: and that is why he was killed by Igbo military officers. Igbos should thank God for the kind heart the Hausa's have, if not the north would have been a no go area for those that have become millionaires on Hausa soil. |

So fuccccckin what! Ahmadu Bello voiced his mind. He was stating the obvious at the time and as the premier of the north, he would want to see his region progress. It was the same with leaders from other regions, he was just more outspoken. So how does that justify Igbo soldiers murdering and humiliating revered leaders of the north. Tafawa balewa was murdered and found two days later, with his body already decomposing in a gutter. Then came taunts from Igbos residing in the north against Hausa's. Don't want to go into details of the others. Then Ironsi refusing to take action on Nzeogwu and his gang, after countless failed assurances. That was too much too swallow. That coup was just dumb and stupid. It Never solved sh*t.. Just made the situation worse. 8 Likes |

omenka: True, we need to visit that era and re examine what we have been fed as history. Question 1. Why did the coup lead to the death of Balewa and Akintola, two of Awo's greatest enemies? Question 2. Who did Nzeogwu and co say they were trying to enthrone? 2 Likes |

He was too jealous of Igbos and hated them so much. That was why the coupists targeted him first. The coupists wanted to enthrone Awolowo NOT Azikiwe. Zik wasn't even in Nigeria when the coup took place. 4 Likes |

ozoigbondu: I know that much ignorance will be exposed in this thread. Ahmadu Bello never bothered about building personal mansions or anything personal. His main concern as a regional Premier and leader of the ruling party was the building of institutions. This house was his official residence, same as Aso Villa is to Jonathan. He didn't build it. 2 Likes |

Was it not the documented tribalist that was used as a puppet by the British in their divide and concur tactics. His hatred for the SE people is documented not only in files and interviews but in all its splendor on YT, so no denying. I see that Karma caught up to him, like its always does. A..hole! 1 Like |

Re: Throwback: Sir Ahmadu Bello's Burnt House In Kaduna,1966 Where He Died by herrdeustch: 11:04am On Mar 19, 2015 |
ozoigbondu: You need to understand some things about your country's history first before you make your contribution. 1. The Sardauna of Sokoto is a Sokoto caliphate title that is a very senior royal official. As at the pre-colonial period, the sokoto caliphate was the headquarters of all the islamic emirates in the area from Niger republic to kwara state. All the islamic emirates were ruled by direct family descendants of Usmanu Ibn Fodiye or his close friends and courtiers(A contemporary example is SLS of Kano). The Sokoto caliphate is the head quarters of all muslims in the areas described above. 2.The fulani sokoto caliphate and its consequent fulani emirates are an extension of other fulani muslim empires spanning a significant portion of west africa south of the sahara desert-In effect ,Fulanis controlled a significant portion of west africa and still control a significant portion of Nigeria as our Northern Caliphs and emirs are all fulani as earlier stated. 3.The Sardauna of Sokoto was knighted by her majesty Queen Elizabeth 4.Sir Ahmadu Bello (June 12, 1910 – January 15, 1966) was a Nigerian politician, and was the first premier of the Northern Nigeria region from 1954-1966. He was the Sardauna of Sokoto and one of the prominent leaders in Northern Nigeria alongside Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, both of whom were prominent in negotiations about the region's place in an independent Nigeria. As leader of the Northern People's Congress, he dominated Nigerian politics throughout the early Nigerian Federation and the First Nigerian Republic. 5.He was born in Rabbah, Sokoto State. The son of a district head and heir to the Sokoto Caliphate, his great-grandfather was Sultan Bello, the founder of Sokoto and son of the revered Shaykh Usman Dan Fodio 6.After returning from Britain, he was nominated to represent the province of Sokoto in the regional House of Assembly. As a member of the assembly, he was a notable voice for northern interest and embraced a style of consultation and consensus with the major representatives of the northern emirates: Kano, Bornu and Sokoto. In the first elections held in Northern Nigeria in 1952, Sir Ahmadu Bello won a seat in the Northern House of Assembly, and became a member of the regional executive council as minister of works. Bello was successively minister of Works, of Local Government, and of Community Development in the Northern Region of Nigeria. 7. In conclusion,The sardauna could afford such a house without being corrupt based on his pedigree .The fact is that he was not a teacher(1931-1934) most of his life .I strongly suspect that the house in the picture was an official residence though i'm not sure whether it was based on royalty or government service. So, let us make comments after some basic research, you will find out that it brings out the beauty of this country,or reveals areas for improvement.no pun intended 4 Likes |

Judging by some of these remarks, it gest me thinking that the North are in a lot of ways like the Afro Americans in the states.. They blame their in ability to progress on everything under the sun, then an African from the so-called bush comes their with only the clothes on his back an decides to give it his all, struggling but focused, Then when he succeeds he gets the wrath of the Afro- American that either sees him as a traitor (why, because they choose not to be lazy and come up with 101 excuses), sellout, good for nothing etc etc. Hmmm sound familiar folks. |

omenka: asha80: Having read ALL the comments before making my own post, a few things stick out glaringly! 1.) As usual, "most" Igbos are showing that if given the opportunity, they will "genocidically erase" all Northerners from Nigeria, their hate for the Northerner is probably worse than the hate they have for Yorubas..... but then, who does the Igbos dont hate? 2.) Most Igbos are very pretentious and like to act like the Ostrich which buries its head. Every single post made by an Igbo... was focused on blaming Ahmadu Bello, the man their kin murdered. They blame him for building an expensive house when in fact, that house was just an "ordinary storey building".... common among the middle class of those days. My own Grand Dad, a local Doctor/Physician, owned one in our village since the 1940's! You dont have to loot to build that sort of house, in the 50's and 60's. What they do back then is have a "viable business" which brings in money. 3.) Not in one single Post did you see an IGBO person "admit that the "Igbo Coup", which installed an Igbo head of state, by the name Aguiyi Ironsi, was an ETHNIC CLEANSING which murdered EVERY PROMINENT HAUSA in Government and REPLACED THEM WITH IGBO PEOPLE..... and it marked the beginning of the "tribal war" which we are still plunged into, till today! 4.) Not one single post by an Igbo son would admit that that "terrible act of ethnic cleansing" by IGBO SOLDIERS in the Nigerian military, led to a "reprisal Coup" of Northern Soldiers, which in return killed the Igbo head of State, Aguiyi Ironsi...... and eventually led to the Biafran Civil War which decimated the Igbo population. The problem with most Igbo nowadays is that their young ones dont READ their HISTORY (they would rather hop on a luxurious to Lagos, to come and Hawk!) but only listen to the "word of mouth" from their old folks, who are too ashamed to TELL THEM THE TRUTH, about the initial mistakes they made ....and how it led to their lot in the Nigerian Nation. Instead, what they tell them is what perpetrates "Ethnic Hatred" further. Bottom line: Igbos initiated these spectre of mindless killing and bloody Coups in Nigeria. End of story! I make bold to say that "the next Presidential election on March 28 is a do or die" affair for President Jonathan... and even more so, the entire IGBOS! The same "winner-takes-all" ......and "losers-get-buried" attitude and actions they took back then in the early to mid 60's, is EXACTLY what they are doing now whereby "IF" the result does not go their way, then they have no "fall-back and no where else to run to" .... EXCEPT RESULT TO ANOTHER BRAINLESS WAR OF SEPARATION WITH PREDICTABLE RESULT! Ndigbo as a people and nation, must undergo a paradigm shift in their moral value of "Money is God" and everything is about "short-term gains". Lets us discuss issues, real issues and not this pettiness that lacks substance. Lastpage! Caveat: Lastpage is a Christian and a S/Westerner...... if that has any bearing on the discuss? 8 Likes 2 Shares |

asha80:don't know how true it's, but i was told that ZIK had a knowledge of it(coup) and advised his eastern brothers(prominent eastern politicians) not to resist the military, but hand over power to them, which lead to the non killing of the eastern leaders |

The genocidal Igbo majors who carefully avoided hurting anybody from their tribe but murdered in cold blood leaders of other ethnic groups will continue to haunt Nigeria's governance. It was the first truncating of democracy and the original sin we are still unable to obtain a remission for. 3 Likes |
