I've had the privilege to study both.
I must confess ,med is tough, lengthy and tasking but nothing as stressful, exhausting and tiring as studying engineering.

Personally,I'll say med is less labourious .

Engineering all the way.

[b]OP, I hope you know that there's difference between intelligence and creativity. An illiterate can be an engineer (e.g some roadside car repairers, some electricians etc) or are these people not engineers? Knowledge of engineering to some extent can be passed through vocational or informal training. There are some people who will spend 4 years in the university studying Mechanical engineering yet they won't be able to detect even the least fault in a car. Medicine on the other hand is not vocational in orientation, that's why you can't see most polytechnics offering medicine as course. Medicine students spend close to seven years studying the course. I will only agree with you if you say that generally, engineers are more skillful and innovative than their medical counterparts but when it's come to intelligence, it's a very different ball game. Engineering is all about relating ideas to real world, your intelligence has little to do here. When I was in secondary school, I wasn't articulate when it came to expressing myself in English though I could read well and comprehend but I was unbelievably a Maths genius.
I'm an engineer who studied Elect/Elect but you see I can't undermine the intelligence of medical students. I'm sorry this has to go to the medical students because they won hands down.

Roadside mechanics and electricians aren't engineers duh, they are simply Technicians!

Guy, you're funny o. Engineering encapsulates all these including those 'technicians'. In fact, there is nobody whose profession is 'technician', it could be a radio technician, motor technician (which falls under engineering) and even sport technicians which in no way has anything to do with what we're discussing here. The word 'technician' is just like the word 'specialist', you can't just call someone a specialist or technician without being specific about his line of job.

You wrote quite a few words but barely made any sense

How come these road side mechanics aren't able to DESIGN hybrid cars?
How come these electricians aren't able to DESIGN the next generation PIC's?

Technicians are only trained to fault find and anyone with common sense should be able to do that since manufacturers usually publish technical details of components as well as expected performance outputs needed for minimum efficiency

Are you sure you studied elect/elect? What modules did you study in your final year?

You ended up saying virtually nothing convincing. So prior to the days when Nigeria started manufacturing automobiles and other electronics, there were no engineers in Nigeria? shocked

Please I will advice you to make use of at least an English dictionary before you quote me next time.

Trash, let's engineers get sick and let us watch them fix their bodies with engineering. Just imagine an engineer dying from a tooth problem.

I don't know how daft people can be in saying ishes, no one field surpasses anyone, we all have our field where we excel and at the same time we can be made to see dumb judging from another field. Even a polymath can't know all.
Re: Are Engineering Students Really More Intelligent Than Medical Students? (picx) by Ruq: 7:52am On Mar 20, 2015
I.mean if i was a physician with an engineering patient diagnosed with syphilis would it be ok for me to tell the patient how dumb he/she is for not knowing what to do, or just say don't worry engineering will fix it.

It's ok to be proud of your study.

I wonder how somebody can in the same sentence claim engineers are innovative/creative but being creative doesn't require intelligence. Dude, for you to be creative, you need to see what others don't, and that requires a great deal of intelligence to pull through.

And don't you think your ' some mechanical engineering students spend 4yrs in the university and are not able to detect faults in a car' analogy only gives credence to the fact that engineering is just not for everyone.

You make it sound as if engineering is just a piece a cake. Its JUST all about relating ideas to the real world and it doesn't require intelligence right? Fine, you studied elect/elect if iam correct. What contribution have you made to science? After all, its just all about relating ideas to the real world .

You want to compare engineering to medicine ...as a medical student a job is already waiting for you after graduation ...

Firstly, whoever told you that should be shot.
Lastly, how does that relate to the context?

@topic. You can't compare apples and oranges because both courses are lucrative but very diverse in meaning when you relate it to intelligence.

But if for some reason, having 174 assignments or 58 exams, etc makes one more intelligent, then let me break it down for you a bit:

You get to study a division of engineering ab initio not collating all areas of engineering, right?
The medical student on the other hand studies 11 different professional courses as an undergraduate from the Microbiology to the anatomy, biochemistry; each with 4 years bsc. He does at least 70% of these courses in a limited time. After getting the MBBS, he then chooses his area of specialty from these undergraduate courses or others.

Make a mistake in surgery and that point you lose a life...
Make a mistake in engineering, there's still final analysis before release

Both courses are deep and really doesn't warrant a thread for chest beating. Why don't the students face their courses and be the best in them rather than arguing over very silly things?

Even jamb cut off for medicine and engineering will answer you. Again, schools accept two waec sittings for engineering, but not for medicine....... 40 remains ur pass mark in engineering with options of carry over, in mbbs u either have the pass mark of at least 50 or repeat a year b4 progressing to d next class..... I can go on and on..... But lemme stop...

Don't misunderstand me. I didn't say that engineering doesn't require intelligence but that it does not all end with just being intelligent (bookwarm). When OP was comparing intelligence, he meant book wise that is why he involved students. I agree that generally engineers may be slightly smarter than their medical counterparts and that plays a huge role in their innovative attitudes. But when you talk of intelligence, hmmm, someone who can carry out a successful surgical operation on a patient is not less intelligent than someone who invented a machine. That engineers are more creative doesn't mean that the medicine men are not at all. Besides creativity is not only the yardstick used for comparison, how about other factors like resilience, risk taking etc, don't they count?

Lemme break it down for you:
An electrician would be expected to be able to connect +ve and -ve end of electrical terminals to any device/appliance that needs electrical input.
An electrical engineer would be expected to be able to design the energy source of the electrical terminals that generates the much needed energy to power those appliances.

An engineer should be able to do effortlessly carry out duties of the technicians but the technicians can't carry out duties of the engineers
