Most of the roads were washed away in Mozambique mate!some of those villages were only accessible by helicopter.

The A109 was doing CnC and searching and rescue. It did not need to land.

Terrorists have struck Tunisia, one of the most stable Arab nations. Speculations point to ISIS from Libya.

NATO coalition in Iraq confesses slow progress means air campaign alone will not defeat ISIS, wary of ground troops deployment.

Nigeria still has serious shortage of weapons/equipment, and wide gaping capability gaps in combat. We have enough weapons to defeat Boko Haram today based on recent importations, but not enough to be a military power that can work with Egypt effectively. I won’t go into this topic again until after this war is over soon, hopefully after elections.

I still insist that Nigeria is buying weapons in trickles of 5 units, 10 units usual tradition…..and NAF is far behind and outside the top 10 as Africa’s number 11th ranked nation in air combat power…..NA remains one of the obsolete armies in terms of equipment in Africa, no single laser guided ATGM to boast of, reliable SAM is almost non-existent.

Well in that case do we need Frigates? why not have only OPVs, if all we are doing is anti piracy missions?
Do we need Gripens? Why not stick with the Cheetahs, they are still the most advanced fighter in Southern Africa.
Do we need Olifant tanks? A Ratel 90 or Rooikat can dismantle any Tank in Southern Africa
Do we need Subs?
Do we need GBADS?

Man do we even need a defence force, i mean we are the most stable country in africa and our police force will defeat any of our neighbours armies?

Anti piracy is a secondary role for the navy. Primary duty of the navy is to protect our maritime internist. A OPV can not do that against any Thing but OPV and smaller ships. Hence we have frigates and submarines.

The cheetahs where not up to the task vs the more modern fighters in Africa like the flanker.

Tanks represent our ground force derterent and nothing more.

The ratel 90 is the FSV of the mechanized infantry.

The rooikat are our reccon and raiders.

We should of kept a few Elands to act as scout cars and light armour.

Subs are a massive force muiltpliyer and allow us to threaten any one who dares to try and interfere with our martime intrisits.

GBADs is needed since the air force can not be every where at once and groups d forces need to defend themselves.

No we don't need a defence force. We could easily pull out of our peace keeping duties and build up a strong g paramilitary police element for the tasks we do, do. Thing is that 10 years from now or even 1 month from now we may need a strong defence force. And then it is to late to build one up. The defence force is like insurance. You pay for it for no gain for years and hope to never need it. But come the day you need it and you don't have it you are screwed.

Again the video shows the A109 wasn't needed in mozambique.

The Super Puma did the SAR and CnC. The A109 was there not because you needed it, but because you have enough of it.

The white man turning his back to camera is a technician for maintenance and repair of the Gazelle helicopters, not likely a pilot at all. He wears a tool belt on his waist, and that is more like an electrician’s tool belt style of pouch for wire cutter snips, mini volt meter, screwdrivers, 100 watt soldering iron, pliers, etcAs far as I am able to see, a white man aircraft electrician for service and maintenance.

It is obvious to any reasonable person that this is the same person talking. Especially coupled with the evidence of the OPV missile launch screengrabs. Which don't exist on any other site on the internet. They were confirmed to be owned by the "beegeagle Augustine", but were in possession of the "nairaland Augustine" the day before. Unless he has a time machine, thats impossible.

He simply comes to this site to vent some sort of weird anger. It's hard to tell. Perhaps childhood based. He is nothing more than a troll on this site, but very often on Beegeale he speaks the honest truth. It's actually quite weird.

Yes i agree 110%, this is precisely the point i was trying to make, even though we might not need the A109s now, the need may arise in the future, as you said anything can happen, thus its exactly for this reason(as you pointed out) we need frigates, tanks,GBADS,Gripens,Subs ect ect to be prepared for an all out conventional war(which could come sooner rather than later by the look of things).

Need is based on role and the Oryx can do every thing the a109 can do and better. There is no need for the A109. A cheaper easier to maintain and fly chopper would have been far more useful.

There is such a page! Ridiculous! For the idiots here - and I've gathered there are many- GDP is meaningless, and so are the weapons systems country A possesses versus country B. It's all about much more than that, GDP per capita for exammple!. Bloody hell, are some of you teenagers on play-station?
Grow up! There are 5 countries that matter in Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa and all have not paid attention to what's going on. This dick-measuring contest is precisely the reason this continent will always be a playground for such fallen powers as France. For example, why is France still a permanent member of the Security Council when Germany runs Europe? Because France still owns some African votes, FFS!

Nigeria set up ECOWAS to oppose French neo-imperialism; what's happened to that?

Mbeki in SA set up IBSA, a union of democracies in the South; what's happened to that?

SA, Naija, Algeria, Ethiopia set up NEPAD to develop African infrastructure on her own terms; what's happened to that?

African countries, in what should be the African century, have never had worse leaders! And what are you onanists arguing about?
Who is better utilising the crumbs from East vs West when it comes to exploiting our continent.
You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Shame on you all!

Dude! your posting airshow tricks while im talking about actual combat.
The Gripen has a wing loading of 283 kg/m2 meaning it can turn tighter than any fighter in the world!
I urge you to find a modern fighter with a lower wing loadig!

andrewza:

That trick and it is a trick will not allow the SU to evade a lock. In fact the drop of speed means it becomes a easier target. The cobra is a air show trick that is all.

Su-30 Flanker was NOT built for air shows or aerobatics, it was built for combat and air superiority. At air shows, every combat aircraft displays the tactics it will use to win real life combat. Cobra movement shows how Su-30 will evade enemy missiles or turn it's gun on an enemy, it also means in ground attack mode an Su-30 can stand almost stationary in the air like a helicopter.

Any Gripen jet that attempts super-maneuverability will be broken into pieces by it's own force of movement.

No 4th generation aircraft in this world can beat an Su-30 in cannon/gun fight

SAAF Gripen jet is crap....a waste of billions of dollars

Su-30 pulls the Cobra maneuver

Gripen pulls the "high yo-yo" maneuver and kills it

But again, the Su30 cant use that maneuver to avoid missiles - trying the scorpion at Mach 1 will kill the pilot and shred the plane.

Not to mention that the A-darter can pull 100G turns - so you cant out maneuver it, only jam or outrun it

And again, as has been shown, the Gripen is highly maneuverable due to its structure and low wing loading.

NigeriaSAT-1R, your claimed military platform has not been launched

Nope, the special Nigerian cloud penetrating radar satellite is already launched and in operation since 2014, Nigeria still has other new satellites being built.

We got surveillance satellite before you and we have used our own for Navy operations and confirmed by AFRICAN DEFENSE REPORT :

"The federal government has attained a total monitoring of its maritime domain through the acquisition of satellite systems which uses radar to access movement of vessels and other navigational activities.

Obi revealed that acquisition of the satellite system is not only helping Nigeria but also other countries in the West and Central Africa Sub-regions as the agency through its radar and high-level intelligence gathering led to the rescue of a Ghanaian vessel from pirates on June 5, 2014.

His words: “The satellite platforms have made policing the Nigerian waters and some parts of the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) quite easier as ship movements are better monitored. NIMASA, with approval of relevant federal government agencies, established a fully digitalised Satellite Surveillance Centre (SSC) with sophisticated cloud penetrating radars."

Where does it say that Surveilance =/= Spy?

Lets consult the dictionary:

surveillance
[ser-vey-luh ns, -veyl-yuh ns]
noun
1. a watch kept over a person, group, etc., especially over a suspect, prisoner, or the like:
The suspects were under police surveillance.
2. continuous observation of a place, person, group, or ongoing activity in order to gather information:
video cameras used for covert surveillance.
See also electronic surveillance.
3. attentive observation, as to oversee and direct someone or something:
increased surveillance of patients with chronic liver disease.

Word Origin and History for surveillance
n.
1802, from French surveillance "oversight, supervision, a watch," noun of action from surveiller "oversee, watch," from sur- "over" + veiller "to watch," from Latin vigilare, from vigil "watchful" (see vigil ). Seemingly a word of the Terror in France.

Let me be honest with you. If you want real answers, and a good honest debate.....dont waste your time on this forum. I mean someone has already answered you and managed to sneak this in...."Gripen is on par with F-7". Don't know how clued up you are on the matter, but thats the quality of answer you're going to get.

"ON PAR" WITH

Why are you afraid of the Angolan man on this forum? All because he comes with his Su-30 Flanker against your Gripen jet . LOL !!!

You ask him to go away from the forum because the debate is not honest here, so why are you here then? You love the 'dis-honest' debate, so let him love it too....Fool !

Yes I am the one who said F-7 and Gripen are on par in maneuverability, I have proved it here last year with videos of both jets in the air.

You need to prove me wrong with infallible proofs, not your private dishonest opinion.

SAAF and NAF are also on par with air to air missiles, we both arm our jets with short range missiles, both pilots will fly into 'NO-ESCAPE KILL-ZONE' and die together in 10 seconds.

You need solid technical analysis to prove me wrong, but you won't be able, I work with some of the best ex-USAF pilots in the world with combat experience, I know the secrets of real combat, you don't !

Welcome to the slaughter house built by Nigerians on this forum, challenge us if you dare !
