It’s a white lie, says PDP

Rivers State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the state and former Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, of giving $1million monthly to the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

Amaechi spoke at a Praise and Worship session organised by the Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) and Ikwerre Women Forum (IWF) at Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

Amaechi said, “Do you know that the PDP guber candidate, Wike has been giving $1million monthly to the wife of the president, Mrs Patience Jonathan? He has been doing this to gain political favour in the Presidency and to retain the favour…

“For eight years our Okrika brother (Senator George Sekibo) has been occupying the senate (Rivers East) seat and now it is the turn of an Ikwerre son, but, Nyesom Wike has gone ahead to accept another four years for George Thompson Sekibo. This is not acceptable, Chief Andrew Uchendu will take over this time, one man called Wike cannot sell Ikwerre birth right.”

He also accused Wike of sponsoring the killing of an APC member who was shot dead recently in the home town of the PDP gubernatorial standard bearer, and accused the police of bias as it could not arrest the PDP hoodlums who committed the murder.

“On Friday, Wike killed an Ikwerre man in his village when he ordered his boys to gun down an APC member. And the police would not arrest the PDP hoodlums because they are biased,” Amaechi said.

At the end of the session, the Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) and the Ikwerre Women Forum (IWF) issued a communiqué endorsing the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC gubernatorial standard bearer, Dr Dakuku Peterside, for the March 28 and April 11 general elections respectively.

The groups said they have over one million card-carrying members across the four Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state.

The group condemned all sponsored political violence and killings in remote parts of the state by the PDP.

They hailed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the card readers in the 2015 general elections, adding that they are committed to mobilising APC members and supporters to win the elections.

On his part, APC gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, expressed appreciation to the Ikwerre Youth Movement, the Ikwerre Women Forum and the entire Ikwerre ethnic nationality for endorsing him as Governor of Rivers State and Muhammadu Buhari as President in the general elections.

In his speech, the President-General of IYM, Hon. Azubuike Wanjoku, assured Rivers people that the group would work towards ensuring equity and justice in the 2015 general elections.

“Nyesom Wike formed Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) so he can kill all Ikwerre people for PDP before the 2015 general elections. This battle is between God and Ogboni. Nyesom Wike is on the side of the devil, he will fail. And that is why we are here today to put our trust in God to win the elections,” Wanjoku said.

But the PDP has described Amaechi’s allegations against Wike as a white lie.
The Director of Media in the PDP governorship campaign organisation in the state, Mr. Emma Okah, called on Amaechi to prove his allegations.

Okah said: “It’s a white lie. Let him show proof. He (Amaechi) is diverting public attention from responding to the monumental allegations of financial impropriety which the PDP have inflicted in him.

“By abusing the first lady, he has demonstrated his loose ‘mouthedness’ and lack of respect for his elders. He likes to talk before he thinks. Why has he not responded to charges of corruptly enriching himself through various projects like the Karibi Whyte Hospital project, Monorail, Port Harcourt landscape contract, Aerial spray of anti mosquito insecticide, Receipt of N800 million monthly as Special Imprest, etc.”
