KWARA 2015: Gov. Ahmed promises better life for residents of border towns if re- elected. Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has pledged to embark on programmes that would better the lives of the residents of border communities in the state, if re-elected. Ahmed, the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate for Kwara, made the pledge on Friday during his campaign tour of Baruten Local Government Area of the state. The governor blamed the inability of his government to complete some on-going projects in the area on paucity of funds, but urged the people to re-elect him in the April 11 governorship election. He also implored the people to vote for APC in the presidential and National Assembly election scheduled for March 28. "The people are assured of a better future if APC candidates are elected in the general elections," he said. Ahmed said that APC recognised Baruten's strategic position in the politics of Kwara, and promised adequate provision of social amenities in the area and urged them to vote massively for the party. In his speech, Dr Bukola Saraki, a former governor and the leader of the party in the state, also canvassed for the votes of the people for APC in the elections. Saraki said that the dwindling allocation of resources from the centre to the state and its local governments had affected development in the state. He, however, assured the people of more people- oriented programmes if the APC government is returned in Kwara and voted in at the federal level. In Ilesha-Baruba, the spokesman of the community, Mr Yakub Adam, requested for the construction of a dam in the area, to provide water supply for cattle at the International Cattle Market. Adam also pleaded for the immediate appointment of a new Emir for Ilesha to fill the stool that had been vacant since November 2014. The community leader also requested for more boreholes in the area as well as construction of rural roads to link the communities. When the governor visited the palace of the Emir of Okuta, Alhai Idris Abubakar, the monarch lauded the Youth Empowerment Programmes of the Ahmed-led administration. Abubakar said that the Okuta community had benefitted immensely from the government, but urged it to expedite action on the creation of Local Council Development Areas. The APC campaign train also visited Gwanara, Gure and Yashikira. |

Wait After Casting Votes, Says Kwara APC THE Director-General of All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Organisation in Kwara State, Razak Atunwa, has decried the statement credited to the Inspector General of Police that voters should leave polling booths after casting votes. Atunwa, who is also the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, said, "it is null and void, and of no effect. Speaking as a constitution lawyer, the law permits you to remain within the vicinity of the polling booths, even after casting your votes. In as much as you have your PVC, you are entitled to be at that polling unit without time limit. The police boss, I am afraid, got it wrong. I stand with the Chairman of INEC Professor Attahiru Jega on this matter." Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command has said it is fully ready to provide adequate security for the election. Speaking in Minna at the passing out ceremony of 184 officers and men of the command specially trained in combat operations for the forthcoming election at the weekend, the Commissioner of Police, Olusola Amore, said the police is fully prepared for the election. The officers and men, who are drawn from all the police divisions in the state, were trained in new operational tactics, which include, counter terrorism operations, kidnap rescue operations and quelling of riots and civil disturbances. The police commissioner disclosed that the men were trained specially to provide security for the elections, and therefore, warned that the police would not entertain any act of violence from any political thug, godfather or miscreant. "Our men are ready for the election. They have been well groomed to meet up with the security suituation in the state during the election period. "We are warning all miscreants, political warlords and thugs who think they can disrupt the elections that we are ready for them. We have a special brand of police to take care of the election." While assuring the personnels that all their allowances and entitlement for the election would be paid to them before leaving for their duty post, the police boss warned them that they would be fully responsible for any act of violence wherever they are posted for the election duties. |

Don't Serve As Political Thugs, Nans Warns Students The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara Axis, has called on students and youths in the country not to be involved in violence that could disrupt success of the forthcoming general election. The association made the call, just as it declared its opposition to further postponement of the election, saying the poll must be held as rescheduled. The group advised students not to allow themselves to be used as tools for violence by politicians, who may want to perpetrate violence during and after the election. Chairman of the Kwara Axis Joint Campus Committee of the NANS, Ibrahim Jeje, who spoke on behalf of the Axis, said students and youths as a major stakeholders, should contribute to the success of the election by discouraging violence. He advised the students to take into cognisance the collective interest of the country's students in deciding whom to vote for and should not allow selfish interest or money inducement to influence their decision. He stated: "It behooves on each and every one of us to make a significant contribution towards the development and progress of our dear country; one of such contributions is for us to vote for only credible, God-fearing and responsible leaders in the forthcoming general elections. "Our decision to vote and the choice of whom to vote for should not be based on our selfish interests, but on the collective interests of Nigerian students, which is our own constituency. "On election day, when you take a ballot paper to cast your vote - you will surely be faced with different choices as regards the candidate to vote for. "One important thing you should take into consideration is that your eventual choice will have a huge impact on our lives and that of the generation of Nigerians to come. "Let's not compromise our integrity and allow politicians to buy our conscience. "We must not exchange our voting right for money. Our future is too precious to be exchanged for money - our future can't be priced. "Most importantly, we must resist every attempt by desperate and unscrupulous politicians to use us as tools of political violence and social unrest. |

Dear Kwara Civil Servants, ignore desperate PDP lies that Gov. Ahmed will retrench workers if re-elected. KWSG is one of the few that pay workers promptly and increase salaries annually despite drop in allocation. It's better to get regular salary than be owed for 6 months as in some PDP states. |
