nduchucks:Please stop saying what you don't know. The major source of foreign exchange funds to Nigeria is crude oil. We produce about 2.4 million barrels/day That translates approximately to 876 million barrels/year. At $50 /barrel, gives us 43,800 million dollars /year. (50x876m) Oil production companies take 43% of the oil revenue - 43% x43,800 m= $18,834 million taken by oil companies. Nigeria govt gets: 43,800m-18,834m = $24,966 million i.e $24.966 billion/year Now that's what runs the government; salaries etc Where did Nigeria get up to $105billion/year let alone stealing it? 1 Like 1 Share |

Binb:That was when naira was newly introduced (born), it was arbitrarily fixed just as any nation would fix d exchange of its new currency. Its with time-economics of d nation, that the currency will gradually take its real value. Today naira has taken its value n until we diversify our economy from crude oil, anytime crude prices fall, naira falls- there's no going round it. |

nduchucks:The looting that had been going on in the civil service salary payment( for years now every month millions were looted; paid to few individuals) GEJ stopped it without much ado with IPPS. In the agricultural sector through e-wallet fertilizer/seed distribution, he stopped looting in that sector. He uncovered d looting that was perpetuated in d fuel subsidy payment. He's fought corruption more than any past government. Tell the Judiciary to do their work of convicting does charged if foungpd guilty;you don't expect him to interfere with the judiciary. |

blazes4: What has Buhari achieved as a man in the last 29 years that gives you the faith and belief that he would be a great agent of change if elected? Academically, he is zero. He's not disciplined as he claims. "Hot-headedness" is not the same as ability. He has shown a lot of partiality and stupidity in the past. He jailed Ekwueme the VP and allowed the president, Shagari to walk away free. It is like jailing sambo and allowing Jona to go free. Think about it. For what crime did he jail Ojukwu? What was papa Awo's crime? Why did he cancel the Lagos Metro Rail Line? Why did most southern politicians bag long jail terms, even upto 200 years while most of the northern politicians escaped? There's so much wrong with Buhari. I wonder how you could justify making a man who once thwarted our democracy, the elected president of FRN. Does it not beat common sense to argue that in a country of over 170m people, that a 72 year old, semi-literate, senile grandpa is the one and only man that can move us forward? He couldn't do it for himself in 29 years, so how is he gonna do it for over 170m people and for the future generation? As patriotic as Buhari claims to be, he served under Abacha and later claim that Abacha was a saint. In truth, even today, we are still discovering and recovering some of Abacha's loots. This same general refused to appear before Oputa panel. He has refused to tender his academic qualifications with his presidential application. He even committed perjury by lying under oath. It is only in a country like Nigeria will someone without any atom of respect for democracy and the electorate like Buhari, be dreaming of benefitting from the same institution that he so loathed. Buhari is being used by Tinubu to achieve his political master plan at the national level. Osinbajo is just a little above Tinubu's servants. He's Tinubu's boi boi. Buhari is highly incapacitated by age, lacks any sound ideology, financially unstable, and the list can go on and on. His choice as a presidential candidate by APC, is based on the perceived popularity of Buhari as an ethnic and religious champion. Buhari is just a medium for Tinubu to swim to the next level in Nigerian political murky waters. He's under the control of his pay masters. Everywhere in the world, America inclusive, there are the financiers of every campaign. They go into deals to make their money available. Buhari is honour bound to fulfill the terms of the agreement reached with Tinubu, Amaechi and every other stakeholder. His hands are tied. Obama's hands are tied. Jonas hands are tied. It's normal. A good politician finds a way to balance his duty to the masses, as well as honour agreements reached with some power brokers. We seem to believe or think that Buhari can shout today and Tinubu, Amaechi, Fashola, Rochas and co, will hide under the table. It doesn't work like that. Obasanjo couldn't do anything to those who sponsored him for the same reason. So quit thinking that Buhari is incorruptible. He's not. Instead, he is incorrigible. He is set in his ways. There's nothing like a converted democrat. Buhari doesn't have the mental capacity to differentiate between what's good, bad, right or wrong. He's just a vagabond by nature. Die hard egghead. 1 Like |

chibas:Diversification of economy is not done at an instant, GEJ is doing it, this past christmas season prices of food stuff didn't go high as before because we're improving in d agricultural sector. Once the increased power generated is transmitted n distributed for consumption, tnw enabling environment will be created for investors/industries to come in and the diversification is on course. GEJ is doing it, if past leaders had done what he's now doing he would have consolidated on their achievements and moved forward. |

fallout87: So you joined Nairaland this year January, because you think you have something intellectual to contribute in this forum. Your aim is to have platform to attack buhari who ruled Nigeria when you were never born and whose intention is to help build you a nation void of corruption so that for ones you can live as a human being in a place you call your country. A 13 year old boy came to me, he said daddy please help me vote buhari, I said can you convince me 5 reasons why I should vote buhari he said he did not know there was a man who is capable of putting all these big men, who are stealing Nigeria money, in prison and collect all our stolen wealth from them. I was short of words. If a 13 years old boy, who wasn't born in the 80's when 1$ was 1.44 naira could reason that way how much more you that is an adult should have reasoned provided you are in your right senses. Buhari has his facts to propel naira back to where it was before corruption was legalised in Nigeria. All he needs to do is to make war against corrupt people like you. Collect all the billions of dollars you have stolen and place them back in reserve. If this is done within one year alone, you won't believe where naira value will be. Then restructure economy from hyper dependence on oil and stop exporting crude oil and importing refined products. Assuming that you are a normal human being, a normal Nigerian who desire to live like a king in his own country. At least I lived before 80s and I know what it is to live when things are good. You will support agenda that diversifies economy and reenergise all sectors of economy for growth. The shale oil in America will kill many economies around the world who depend on oil to survive. The oil money will continue to fall and American dollar will continue to be stronger because they are self sufficient in the area of oil. Nigeria naira will continue to depreciate as long as we cannot refine our oil and distribute ourselves which cannot be sufficient for our local consumption because of our local demand Bros, don't allow politicians who lived before you give you inverted stories that will continue to deplete your life as a Nigeria citizen. You can live better than this if you have a leader with the right focus like buhari. I'm waiting for your reply. I dey house for you this morning. 1 Like 1 Share |

[quote author=PapaBrowne post=31930454] Are you serious Your speech just gave you off as someone who lacks complete understanding of Economics> Illiteracy no be moi moi oh!! Ha! So if someone tells you he will equate the value to the dollar you would just swallow it hook line and sinker?? What were you doing when others were attending Economics class?? For the Naira to be equal to the dollar, you would need to see our dollar reserve rate go to something like a trillion dollars!! Even with 20 years of 20% economic growth rate, we would probably not be there!! Now the bigger lesson for you is that a very strong Naira is not good for our country especially if you want to produce goods and export competitively.. Now let me explain that to you: A bag of Dangote cement sells for 1500 Naira. When the dollar was 160 Naira, that bag of cement was equal to $9. At the new rate of 215 Naira, that same bag of cement is now equal to $7. That means if Dangote wants to sell his cement in Albania, he has a better price point than he would have had 5 months ago. Now imagine the Naira is exchanging at 5 Naira to a dollar. That same bag of cement would now be equal to $300. Where on planet earth would he be able to sell his bag of cement at that price?? Any country that desires to produce and export to the rest of the globe, prays for a weaker currency to allow its goods better pricing amongst competitors. If Buhari understands economics, he will never pray for a very strong Naira except of course he wants us to keep importing everything! Guy, you still need to see your economics teacher for more tutoring, cos you got it a bit twisted. To increase the value of your currency, the major thing required is to increase your foreign exchange earnings. In other words, increase export and reduce import. |
