"I'll like to take the kids to see my parents today." Tade told Bola as she got ready to take them to school.
She looked at him, surprised. He had not discussed that with her earlier.

"Babe, today is tuesday, a school day."

"But Hope told me they are through with their exams."

"Yes, but----"

He sat up on the bed and propped himself with a pillow. "it'll just be a fun trip. I've not been spending time with them lately."

Bola weighed it in her mind. He had decided to sleep over, against her pleas to go back home and settle with Wande. Somehow, he appeared to have forgotten about the dna test and that gave her joy. She dropped her makeup kit on the dresser and moved closer to him on the bed. Not a bad idea, as far as he leaves the house so her man can come for his phone. He had called to tell her he will sleep over in his cousin's place at Alekuwodo.

"I think it's a good idea. Hope will go with you because I can't. I'm expecting the plumber and---"

Just what he wanted- time alone with the kids. "Don't worry honey," he held her hands in his, playfully, "I just want their grandparents to see them. Besides, Hope is better off with you." He smiled reassuringly.

"Ok." She shrugged her shoulders, "I'll tell Hope to change them into something nice." She stood up and left the room, smiling.

Tade flung his feet off the bed and rushed through a cold shower. He repeated the clothes he wore on monday-this time without the jacket. He had a pair of sandals that had been gathering dust on Bola's shoe rack. He quickly dusted it and slipped his feet in. He folded his shirt sleeves and picked his briefcase.

"Daddy!"
"Daddy!"

The children chorused as he joined them on the dining table.

"How are you guys doing?" He offered his cheek as the little girl pulled his head towards herself to plant a kiss on his cheek. She was so adorable.

"Mum said we are going to see grandpa!" Dele shouted excitedly

"Yes, we are."

"What did I tell you about table manners?" Bola admonished them for talking while eating. They both kept quiet and ate in silence afterwards.

"Please, be back soon, ok?"

"We'll be back as soon as papa releases us. Or you want to come?"

"No way, abeg!"

The children rushed inside Tade's Gwagon without bidding their mother goodbye. Outing with Tade is always exciting. He had his way of spoiling them silly.

"Bye."

"Bye." Tade got behind the wheels and wished he had brought Josh along with him. The drive ahead was sure to weigh him down. It was a long journey.

"Daddy play Dorobucci for us." Dele said from the back.

He slotted in a naija collection and scrolled till he got to the dorobucci track. Dele smiled and sang along. His sister relaxed and enjoyed the rhythm.

"But this is not the way to grandpa's house, daddy." Dele observed as Tade left Oshogbo behind and headed towards Gbongan.

"No, we are going to see a friend first, then we'll head to grandpa's place."

Dele sighed and wondered why they had to see his friend first. He had planned to show grandpa his new super hero costume which he had folded carefully in his school bag. He pouted angrily. Tade ignored him.

Tade's phone broke the awkward silence.

"Hello, ore."

It was Charles. "Ha, ore how you dey now?" Tade asked cheerfully.

"I dey fine o. Where are you?"

He thought of telling charles his true destination, but with bamidele there with him, he changed his mind.

"I'm in Oshogbo."

"Aw, ok. Are you at home or on your way to Ibadan?"

Again he cautioned himself and lied instead. "I'm taking the kids to the village to see my parents."

"Ok, take care. I just want to say hello. Have you heard from Wande since the showdown yesterday?"

"No buddy. But thanks, we'll talk about that when I'm back in ibadan later this evening."

At gbogan junction, he bought some fruits and linked the express. He faced Ibadan.

By 9am, he was under the Iwo road bridge. He checked on the kids, they were sleeping. His phone rang. It was Bola.

"Are you at grandpa's place yet?"

"Almost. We had a flat tyre. But we are in town already."

"Ok babe, enjoy."

He ended the call and put his phone on the dash board. He was in and out of the Iwo road traffic jam in ten minutes. He faced the Challenge part of the express and competed with Lagos bound trailers.

Within minutes, despite the bad road, he was at the toll gate, heading straight to Lagos.

The building of Blueview DNA center was massive. His first time of coming there. Located in a serene compound on Awolowo AV. Ikeja, the building, a two storey building housed a fertility clinic, a law firm and the dna center in the middle floor. He found a parking space beside the giant generator house. The noise was deafening. Dele was awake but quiet, somewhat disappointed that he didn't find himself in grandpa's compound.

Tade picked the girl, who was still sleeping and they headed straight to the stairway.

"Are we not going to grandpa's house again?" Dele tugged at his pant as they stepped into the reception.

"We are, after this place." Tade answered with the effeciency with which he tackled any difficult assignment.

Dele glanced at his sister. She was awake, but couldn't care less about her environment. Tade led them into the spacious room. As they stepped inside, it felt as if they've been propelled into a strange setting. "Where is this?" Dele asked, starring at the walls.

The room was painted white. Few medical wall hangings adorned the wall. Dele took it all in. It looked and smelled like a hospital.

"Who is sick, daddy?"

He looked at him and smiled, "Smart buddy." He gave him a hi five, "Nobody is sick, dear. We are here to collect grandpa's medicine from the doctor."

"That means grandpa is sick!" He concluded innocently.

"Not really. He takes the multivitamins daily to prevent sickness."

Dele weighed his answer. He was satisfied and broke into a smile. "Ok."

Tade placed Mary on one of the chairs at the reception. He left them at the reception and headed to the doctors' lounge.

"Mr Tade, from Dr Bel--" he stretched his hand towards Dr Jide, his contact person there.

"Oh!" Dr Jide took his outstretched hand. "Dr Bel told me. Where are the children?"

"At the reception. I really don't want them, especially the boy to know much of why they are here. Just help me find a way to get their sample without them noticing."

"No problem. We can use hair, we can scrape off saliva from cups----"

"Please, I think that'll be better."

The doctor stood up. "I'll send someone to you from the lab."

Tade went back to the reception to meet the children. His girl was wide awake and was chatting with a female lab attendant. He offered them water from the dispenser, using two disposable cups. He collected the cups and held on to them while he waited for the person from the Lab.

"Mr Tade?" A beautiful lady wearing a lab coat with the name tag 'Kehinde' called out to him.

"Yes," he smiled sheepishly

"Can I have the---"

"No way. I'll follow you as far as possible. I want this handled perfectly this time. It's a very expensive procedure and one that is causing me sleepless nights."

"Ok." They walked away from the reception. The kids were glued to the Tv, watching the 'teenage mutant turtle ninja" cartoon.

"You can't go beyond this place, mr Tade." The technician told him. "I assure you, we are very thorough. The first mistake couldn't have come from us."

He hesitated, then handed her the cups. She wiped off the tips separately and dropped each sample in a sample bag. She wrote their names on both and quickly too his own mouth swab.

"Thanks."

"My pleasure. it will be posted to----"


"I have already discussed with Dr Jide, I'll come back for the result, or if it can be emailed to me."

"We'll see how it goes."

She waved him goodbye as she disappeared behind the wall that lead to the lab.

"Kids, we are off." He picked the girl and held his boy's hand. He checked his watch as he drove into the busy street, It was 12:15pm. Mission accomplished, he scrolled to Wande's name and called her, but he was too scared to say a word. He cut the line. She called him back immediately, he didn't pick her call. Better to face her and sort things out one on one.
