Hello everyone. After two miscarriages (last December and middle of last month), the doctor discovered I had cervical incompetency and strongly advised a cervical stitch for subsequent pregnancies. I need information on how much its done, what stage of pregnancy its done and where it can be done. Anyone that has gone through it should pls give any advise available. Right now I need to hear all the success stories I can because it seems quiet scary. Pls help a sister out. Thanks y'all. |

tohsie: General practice doctor here.. Well, I do not know about cost....but I guess it won't cost more than N60000(But that is a guess !) Stage of pregnancy....Usually at 14-18 weeks of pregnancy(That's why you should register for ANC as soon as you get pregnant....don't wait till you are four months gone like most Nigerian women.). Where to do it? Do it at a teaching hospital and have it done by a qualified gynecologist (if possible get a consultant gynaecologist to do it). Success stories Try here! [quote author=tohsie post=26853906] Hello everyone. Hi Tohsie..cerclages are classified as minor procedures to stitch the cervix and prevent it from opening before the 37th week. Where you just recommended to have a cerclage just on the basis of miscarriages or specifically 2nd trimester miscarriages? I cannot speak for others but in my experience , I had 6 miscarriages however only one was in the 2nd trimester ie 22wks-my water just broke (embarrassingly at a supermarket), without signs or pains felt by me. Sad enough I had an ultrasound at a docs visit 2 days before that and nothing was noticed if the cervix was already shortening and opening. After that incident the next doc I visited advised that due to the abrupt rupture which was a signature cervical incompetence that I shld get a cerclage on my next pregnancy. Having gone 4 years of trying to have a kid, I didn't wait to have another 2nd trimester miscarriage to confirm whether he was right or not. I went online n googled all I could about cerclage. I called up all the docs I went to sch with n all recommended I go with the cerclage given my medical history. when I got pregnant again & got to 12wks, I had it done. The ob/ gyn adviced from 12wks cos d growth rate from then on (baby weight )could put pressure on the cervix earlier than anticipated. the process didn't take more than 15mins.I opted for general anaesthetics cos I cldnt stand being awake n being poked after the evacuation done for the last miscarriage left me traumatized. When I woke up I was told to stay for some hours to monitor shld i start to bleed. I left same day. some docs ll kip u for a day to monitor. the stitch was taken out at 37 weeks and was told to be ready any day however my baby chose to stay till due date ...plus one week. funny I went to schedule for an inducement and when she examined me, ur dear sis was almost 6cm dilated. I didn't go home. she did a membrane sweep .the pill for induction given by the morning after (9am)..by 1.40pm I had my daughter naturally n no complication. why did I add this part? I was dilating fast without signs! I felt no single pain till I was abt 7 cm dilated. the nurses didn't agree I was ready cos I was busy 'pinging". however I saw d heavens for 3 hrs before my baby arrived , yh I still count myself lucky for the brief labor pains. but my point is- from virtually no signs of cervix opening again till that late labor signs, the pregnancy wld not hv thrived. Which convinced me that the cerclage was way to go even for subsequent pregnancies. I'm presently 18wks+2days today and already got the cerclage done again by same doc- however at a different facility. in 2011 DEC, it cost me #80,000 at a private Hosp in ajah (I don't know ur location n proximity ie if u r in Lagos). this year I had it done by same doc however on the mainland for #120,000. so I'm estimating - depending on location btw #100,000 & #150,000 as long as it ain't the big name hospitals like lagoon, premier, Havana...etc. lest I forget, u ll nid to take things real easy n slow aft the cerclage. no heavy lifting et all. depending on how u respond aft d cerclage, u 'might' hv to boycott sex. Notice I sd 'might'. some couples go ahead to hv sex even with the cerclage. I cldnt cos I had some bleeding and we were so shaken we ruled it out....if u hv to, at least for d sanity of ur hubby u guys ll hv to be creative oooo so as not to leave him 'hungry'. if u hv any more question u can always ask- my hands r weak from typing already- yes, I'm very lazy at chatting/typing on phones but I just had to respond to ur questions, I hope I tried. 7 Likes |

Hi jvmum. Your story has lifted me up.I had two mid term miscarriage. The first one was more preterm. I was 5months and went through all stages of labour with heavy bleeding. Have never seen so much blood. The second mc which was 16 wks and more recent was a surprise. I took it real easy all through but I got back from work one day, was resting on the bed, tried standing up and my water broke. Went to the hosp., doc said I lost too much water so I had to be induced. Doc said my cervix was short and opening. But I felt no pain all through the process. I was advised to do a cervical stich for subsequent pregnancies. I think a mc is the worst thing a woman can go through. I'm still trying to get out of it. Its quiet scary knowing what I have to face to have my children. Your story has encouraged me. All hope is not lost. You make it sound quiet easy. Thanks so much. Wishing you a safe delivery. XOXO. I had 2 miscarriages before d doctor told me I had cervical incompetence and d solution was a cerclage, I did research and found out everything I needed to know about d procedure, so when I got pregnant again I went at 12 weeks to do it. at 38weeks it was removed and I had my baby 2 weeks later. it is a very simple procedure but you have to go to expert doctors. there is nothing to worry about. and u will have to be very careful after d stitch, I did not make love after d stitch cos my hubby was so scared, but in all my daughter is 11 months old. so I am a success story. 1 Like |

Hello, With my experience for a decade regarding to health, it is very important we note that sickness or diseases don't just occur to man. A diseases such as cervical incompetency could be as a result of free radicals that are released in human body system and approximately 6,000 unit of free radicals are release in the human body system daily. And with the present of these free radicals it accumulates in the body system and causes what most people suffer today as a result of fibroid, cancer, most ailments all because of the absence of Antioxidant in the body system. And Antioxidant cant really begotten from most of the food we eat because of food do not have a complete present of the 90 nutrients the body needs daily. So what could be the solution of this, i bet you drugs cant resolve this cervical incompetency issue, or any other sickness, because these are merely combination of chemicals. Because if the food we eat has complete nutrients the body can not be ill. all this occurs because of imbalance in our system. Drugs could help to sustain an ailment but i think is high time we kill this human health issues from the Cellular Level, because the Tissue is made of the Cell, from the tissue we have the Organ and from the organ form the body system. We should learn how to Renew, Restore, and Revive our body system than sustaining it with drugs. A report from the US said: The Benefits of Food Moving against the grain, we need to make nutrition the primary form of prevention in the United States for chronic and degenerative diseases – not drugs. Fresh, organic foods provide our bodies with the nutrients they need to prevent and combat diseases. And with research been done, am so glad to say solution has come to all health issue in the world with a Natural Food Supplement with so many testimonies of which am sure cervical incompetency is not in exception 100% sure. for testimonies and prove of this food supplement having 174 Nutrients for body re-newer contact me for proofs and testimonies and how to use it. tohsie, which hospital did you use for your antenatal? Discuss with an ob/gyn there. With your complete medical history. By the grace of God I believe u ll conceive immediately. I know the trauma from the loss will keep your spirit low but please do not be discouraged and don't wait too long to start trying again. At 11 weeks, visit d doc n schedule for the cerclage at 12wks. Ask alllll the questions u nid to ask from the doc- I queried my doc ehnn (however amicably n politely) till she almost offered to get me her certificates to show she was more than qualified to handle my case - yeah, she is my 'bestie' now o..lol. shame she has left Doren n now with Havana @ Surulere I would hv referred u to her. however, I still attribute all success to God n not man but at same time, it is good to have a doc dat understands your condition and fears and then help you thru- which was why I had to go to her for this 2nd cerclage. which ever hospital u use ensure its an ob/gyn not just a gp. some hospitals will offer a gp but I am always insistent on seeing an ob/gyn especially when one has been categorised as with high risk pregnancy. Try and be positive and research, do your part and hand over the rest to God. U ll carry ur bambino soon. God is your strength. cheers dear 1 Like |

Jasi7: Sorry for late response. My advice is simple...get to a surgeon , and have the lump removed.Quickly....because the fact it is hard MAY indicate it is a tumor. Then get the lump sent to a pathologist....assuming it is not an abscess....and have a report...which you would show to the surgeon. Don't do DIY stuff like using needles on it. Sorry for late response.! (A relative had a similar lump...which fortunately for her turned out to be a lipoma...not a cancer)> |

I kinda came back to this as I am preparing to embark on further studies closely related and in the medical field (using my experience) to see that more women can be supported and awareness created. My regards to every one on the thread. |
