JOur uranium can be readily transmorphed into weaponized radioactive substance if we decide to buy the technology needed.

It is nowhere near as simple as that

You will end up like Iran if you even joke about such a thing.

Plus, you dont just "buy the technology"

EVEN IF AN F7 JET CAN BE ARMED WITH BVR IT WILL STILL NOT DEFEAT GRIPEN JET. THE GRIPEN JET WILL DETECT IT FIRST WITH ITS WIDER DETECTION RADAR AND STAND A CHANCE TO FIRE THE FIRST SHOT. THE F7 CANNOT FIRE THE MISSILE UNLESS IT HAS DETECTED THE GRIPEN AND WHAT SADDENS THE MOST IS THE FACT THAT BEFORE IT CAN DETECT THE POSITION OF THE GRIPEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LONG DETECTED BY GRIPEN AND HENCE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD. THE BVR IS NOT THE BEST PLATFORM FOR J7/F7 BECAUSE IT HAS POOR DETECTION RADAR. THE ENEMY WILL ALWAYS DETECT IT FIRST AND APPROACH IT FROM BEHIND OR FROM ITS WEAKEST LINK.

Literally every NATO nation, as well as (amongst others) Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, China, India, Japan, Korea, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Pakistan, Uganda, N Sudan, Morocco, Iran, Iraq... well... you get the picture.

Standardization requires three things:

1. Development of a military wide doctrine
2. Commitment to that doctirne
3. Procurement that account for future (not current) threats.

South Africa just aquired 236 IFV's (with follow up orders likely in the 2020's)... in peace-time... in a ZERO threat environment.

Looking at the vehical inventory of the Nigerian military gives me a headache... trying to co-ordinate and run all those vehical types is impossible.

Nigeria currently has 601 wheeled APC's and IFV's... of these there are 10 vehical types.

Say for example you standardized it with the BTR-80, a good allrounder that can be heavily upgraded. And purchased say 601 of them. (just for the sake of the argument)

It then becomes economically viable to build them... and you could build 600 over 10 years, at a cost of $500 000- $1mill per vehical (worst case $60 mil a year)
http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product116.html

You have now standardized your military, grown domestic armament industries and cut MASSIVE costs in keeping such an unweildy array of vehicals in operation.

And yes, not every single IFV should be the same vehical. Ideally you would want a light (air-mobile and amphibious), medium (amphibious wheeled) and heavy (tracked) IFV in serive... but my point remains the same, all you do is tweak the ratio's (300 light, 200 medium and 100 heavy or whatever depending on your force design)

Such a vast array of vehicals is a hinderance, a massive one, from logistics and training, to feild operations. Everything is negatively affected.

It makes sense. Unfortunately i'm not in charge of procurement at DHQ.

However let it be known, as a military Doctrine, Nigeria has and would always continue to carry out a diverse procurement Policy.

Nigeria had one of the most internationally diversified and balanced defense procurement strategies. Nigeria acquired arms from about eight suppliers during 1978-82, tying Zaire as the most diversified sub-Saharan state (see table 20, Appendix). Its largest supplier during that period, West Germany, provided only about one-third of its US$845 million total. This diversified pattern became even more pronounced in the mid-1980s. During 1983-87, Nigeria imported military matériel valued at US$1.5 billion from about ten major suppliers--more than any other African state, and Italy, its largest supplier, accounted for only 23 percent.

Another Nigerian who missed history classes, the highest rank Ojukwu attained before 1967 was the rank of colonel and a governor by political appointment, If he ever assumed a General status, it must have been self acclaimed not earned from the Nigerian army, he taught the likes of Murtala Mohammed and Adekunle (black scorpion) in the Ghana defence academy (whatever it is called now), same students of his championed the most fierce blow to Ojukwu's Biafra, that tells you how badly he implemented his board room strategies.

Dont forget to mention that same Ojukwu "ran away","absconded" and practically "abandoned" his own revolution, first of its kind in their history at the time, thanks to General Effiong who negotiated the truce that saved us in a war we were clearly losing but needs to be fueled by the selfish ego of one senseless individual. what is special about a proven coward to be mentioned in history?
The tale of cowardice is so boring to the ears.

I dont know whether you were born at the time but testimonies from survivors said they actually started the war with machete and pitch forks, there was just one military installation in the east and after the January 15 coup by the eastern officers, majority of the arms in that barracks was withdrawn and transferred to Kaduna, that paved the way for the retaliatory coup of July.
The Biafrans practically improvised most of the arms they used, in all fairness, real weaponry started trickling in towards the end of the war when the likes of Ivory coast and France came to their rescue.

It was no news that most Biafran soldiers fought 2 to 1 riffle at the onset of the conflict as a matter of undiluted fact, Calabar sector fell because Ojukwu at some point made a desperate attempt to sustain Enugu by withdrawing Sub machine guns from Calabar " we that are about to die salute you" hope it rings a bell.
Be very careful the level of misinformation you throw out here, your child may be reading and forming a clueless opinion with it.

What is the "2010" level?

What upgrades?

Its still an airframe from the 1950's

You can say year 2005 SAAF upgraded Cheetah jets are the same as 1960s Mirage Jets because that us what they actually were, same airframe re-welded.....then you can say they have the same combat capability.

Nope, 2010 F-7NI has nothing to do with 1950s MiG-21.

Different F-7 engine from Chengdu, different wing Swept-Delta, different speed-climb rate-altitude-power thrust-gravity load-ferry range-combat radius-cruise parameters-langing gear-weapons configurations-payload, also added vertical fin stabilizers, new situational awareness cockpit canopy, modern sensors, computers, radar, HOTAS, HUDAWAC, HMS.

As I have said, only a fool thinks NAF's year 2010 F-7NI is same as 1950 MiG-21. Like I should say SAAF 2005 Cheetah jets are same as their original 1960s Mirage III jets because it's actually the same aircraft airframe rewelded by Israel.

Article X allows a state to leave the treaty if "extraordinary events, related to the subject matter of this Treaty, have jeopardized the supreme interests of its country", giving three months' (ninety days') notice. The state is required to give reasons for leaving the NPT in this notice. Article X.1 only requires a state to give three months' notice in total, and does not provide for other states to question a state's interpretation of "supreme interests of its country".

@jpphilips,i thought that we arrived at a mutual concensus?,there was no misinformation in anything i posted,i wasnt around during the civil war,but nevertheless,i recieved the undiluted account of events from sources who personally participated heavily in the war.
I wasnt hailing Ojukwu, neither did i aggrandize his insane lust for power, infact,i detest him for the act of cowardice he performed towards the end{though i respect his intelligence}.
Revolutionaries such as Adolf Hitler,Napoleon Bonaparte,Moussoulinni etc....fought and died for their cause, they didnt run away like wimpering dogs when they tasted defeat.
I dont understand the reason why you are being so unfairly antagonistic towards me,did i ever offend you?.
You spun a sobering tale about how ojukwu was a selfish coward with an oversized ego{a notion which i duly support},yet you failed to document the reason why he started the war in the first place,as much as Ojukwu was a power monger,he didnt just wake up one morning and decide to start a war.

SAAF didn't have fuel to fly into Congo and make a long air campaign.

SAAF can only day dream of achieving that, and they will never be able to do it. Cowards don't fly combat missions, they settle for VIP transport like SAAF has wisely done

1. Gripen is more maneuverable - lower wing loading
2. Gripen has more advanced avionics (better situational awareness)
3. Italian Grifo-7 has 42km range - Gripen has 120km range radar.
4. Gripen has data-link, meaning it can fly with its radar off and sneak up on the F-7
5. Gripen has more advanced targeting systems - allowing an easyer gun-kill
6. F-7 can only carry 2 AAM's. Gripen can carry 8.
7. Gripens cannon fires faster than the F-7s increasing hit probability

If you want to claim 35km missiles, then that is fine, according to the source you provided they cannot operate above 6 000ft meaning that the Gripen can climb high and attack your defenceless F-7's from 20km out.

F-7 does not stand a chance, theh fact that you would even claim that it does is utterly ludicrous.

You wrote a folder full of garbage above, but let me answer just one of them that is a bit fresh garbage (The other ones have been repeated too often here) :

Gripen jet is NOT a stealth jet fighter, so switching off it's radar will not save it from the sharp claws of the Nigerian BVR missile F-7NI jet.

The F-7 is not looking for the Gripen radar, it's looking for the metal body airframe of the Gripen and will detect that 40 km away.

The Gripen is committing suicide by switching off it's own radar, meaning it can no longer detect the F-7 and the incoming PL-9C missile, so your Soweto pilot just hears a big (((((( BOOM )))))) explosion, sees the fire ball and feels the roasting heat for 2 seconds and opens his eyes in H.ELL with d.emons opening that gate of H.ADES for him.

Datalink is NOT a detection device, it can only work if another aircraft is using it's own radar and transmits data to the Gripen, but then what aircraft is that? It will become a target to be shot down along with the Gripen.

So sorry about all this danger your South African air force has suddenly become exposed to, I know your jets are expensive, it's just that they are too poorly armed, sorry Nigeria has to make you country a victim of our near BVR missiles.

You can buy back your freedom from captivity, ship to Lagos a convoy of Ocean liners loaded with 10,000 tested HIV FREE and clean South African 18 year old pretty city girls who will be exchanged for your country's national security, Nigeria will then sign a pact not to use BVR missiles on South Africa.

That is the only way to save your lives those beautiful 8,000 black, 1,000 coloured, and 1,000 white girls will be the full price paid for your freedom.
