I'm writing on behalf of my sister who happens to be pregnant and due for delivery in less than two weeks.
She has fibroid growing alongside her baby. Her first child was birthed via caesarian but as it is now, she doesn't have the financial capacity to go for a caesarian and insists she would try out the vaginal.
Apart from my parents and my younger sister, she happens to be all alone in this race as her husband had been violent and now has lost his job.
We wouldn't want to take a risk, but the teaching hospital where she is located is on strike which leaves her with the alternative of using a private hospital.

Your advice would be highly appreciated please. Thank you.

Twice a C-section, always a C-section.
Add dt to the fibroid she's carrying which we don't know the position, and you won't need me to tell you not to gamble with your sister's life.

Best case scenario, she goes back to C-section as an emergency.
Worst case scenario, she gets a ruptured uterus.

That being said, I must admit that miracles still happen.

The choice is yours.

UWC, pls kindly find a means of soliciting for funds for her incase of an emergency. But I belive God can do it. U need a plan B incase plan A fails.

V birth is possible cos my friend had CS 2years ago and just had anoda baby last month thru V birth, it's just that ur sister's case is different cos of d fibroid and d fact dat she's had CS b4.
Depending of d location of the fibroid, Vbirth might be risky but I believe in Miracle.
Most private hospitals won't even allow her go into labour, they will book her for elective CS cos of d fibroid. I'll advise u source for fund incase Vbirth fail i know it's not easy. God will help her.

Two possible complications of the fibroids in vaginal delivery , one is that they may block the birth canal and delay labour, by the time the patient is rushed to hospital for an emergency CS , the baby may not survive and being an unplanned surgery with no prior preparation the chances of major complications is higher. The chances of such a woman loosing her womb are also high. The other is that after delivery the uterus may not be able to contract around the fibroid and such women bleed profusely and may even die. The list goes on. If your sister does go ahead and has any complications please do not blame the unfortunate doctor that she runs to at the last minute for the outcome. I may sound harsh but it's really annoying when patients go against their doctors advice and at the end of the day the same group of doctors get blamed when anything goes wrong!

Open up and solicit for help financially, your sister should go for another CS to save her life and the baby. A woman who already done CS and has fibroid is a very complicated issue. Miracle happens but don't take chances. If you have anybody in Lagos, I will say you move your sister to Lagos as some general hospitals charge relatively low for CS. With under 60k it will be done. Solicit for help please.

Thanks so much for your contributions. We are running around trying to raise funds. Meanwhile, she would be coming to Ibadan to book at UCH. don't know what their charges would be but we are still hopeful.
my prayer now is that she doesn't fall into labour on the election day cos her EDD is 29th (Sunday).

We would appreciate help from anyone who can. even with baby items please.

and you think nairalanders are in the best position to advice you, some of them who are stupid enough to shout 'gej till 2019' you better go and see a doctor in a general hospital. It will be relatively cheaper. Go to lasuth if you are in lagos but I don't know if they are on strike

A patient with fibroid can deliver vaginally. The most probable complications have been mentioned above by @allycat, although they are not common occurrences.

In your sister's case, what was the reason for the 1st C/S?

If the indication for the first C/S was not a 'modifiable' one, then this delivery should be by C/S.

Again, even if your sister may be considered for Vaginal delivery, consideration must be given to the number, sizes and locations of the fibroids in order to avoid a possible bad scenario of obstructed labour with possible rupture of the uterus at the initial scar.
