Readonee35L: which should be 4cylinders, each with 2intake valve and 2exhaust valve making 4valves per cylinder (double stroke) normally for DOHC ( double over head can) so we have 4×4=16÷2=8 (v8) I stand to corrected |

clemz85: Welcome to cartalk where you'll go back to school again and again and again. V8 has 8 cylinders. If a V8 have 16 valves, it means its got 2 valves per cylinder. One intake one exhaust valve per cylinder. For 32 valves V8, its got 4 valves per cylinder. 2 intake and two exhaust valves per cylinder. For 40 valves, its got 5 valves per cylinder. 3 intake 2 exhaust per cylinder Reason for multi-valve system is to provide better breathing, more power and torque yet efficient and effective means to rid the engine of waste gas and extremely high pressures and temperature which can harm it. |
