I agree we need to strengthen our democracy but the issue goes beyond "opposition" parties. The issue s that there are regional or ethnic interests and it is difficult to see how this can be resolved within a party. If you observed the National Conference,disagreements were along regional rather than party lines and so this demonstrates that the "enterprise" of political parties is not politics but power brokerage. Goodluck Jonathan has been in power for 5 years .I have no doubt in my mind he would have found politicians in the North who would agree to a change in derivation from 13 to 25% if he would guarantee them to use incumbency to secure the presidency for them. The fis He did NOTHING for the Niger Delta whilst enriching Militants. Has gas flaring stopped? Has Ogoni land been cleaned up? I could go on and on. As far as those issues are concerned I do not expect anything from Buhari but we must remember that our interests do not coincide and often are in conflict.Then what we need is leaders who understand the issues and are prepared to resolved them.What we have is unnecessary competition ,rivalry and triumphalism and under those circumstances no matter how we grow it will always be easy for major external forces to cause trouble and even war in our country. It is a shame that what we witnessed on Saturday was show of ethnic superiority going by the voting pattern. I commend the non igbos/SS that stood by Jonathan beyond ethnic sentiment. I see the PDP collapsing because it is a party based on exploiting the power of incumbency at the centre,at least with the current actors There are no real leaders in PDP. I think it is important to distinguish a person who has followers because of money and a natural leader such as Buhari or Aminu Kano ,men with no money.In the PDP we have characters like Akpabio, Fani Kayode etc who lack credibility.From an ethnic perspective let us name the top 3 figures from the SW SE NE NW NC or SS in PDP. I dont want to comment on everything you have written because l am not a N/Deltan nor Igbo but honestly, l must give you a standing ovation for the bolded part!

Prior to the coup in 60s, Yorubas and Igbos were given most of the civil service positions in the North cos of lack of education of Northerners. However, Igbos started; Igbos nearly tormented lives out of Northerners just like what you are witnessing in the South west today. They called Northerners all sort of names as a result of their lack of education; they rub it on their faces before things got out of hands and completely turned to Pogrom. If I lied against Igbos, I want you to look at how they used the same education against Buhari in the last election. All what their progenitors did in 60s is repeating itself today my friend....

Having read all sort of books that were written about Nigeria history in 60s, it's quite sad that we have allowed evil to flourish for too long. The only people(Igbos) who destroyed our true federalism system under Aguiyi Ironsi despite all warnings, committed such enormous atrocities against other ethnic groups by killing and maiming their leaders on the streets like chickens while their own leaders who formed the present government then free, Jesus Christ! !!!, betrayed other southerners to form alliance with Northern Oligarchy in 1963 and 1979, fully put their kinsmen in all sensitive governmental positions under Aguiyi Ironsi regime without any consideration of others, truncated our first democracy through coup that led to the death of prominent leaders from other ethnic groups, turned Nigeria state to unitary system of government so as to control others and kept shouting marginalisation from day one of independence despite the fact that they held more governmental positions than any other ethnic groups in Nigeria. I am not one of those that patronise evil; I speak against evil at all time.

And guess what, despite all these atrocities against Yorubas, Hausas and other minority groups, they were forgiven and others moved on but Igbos thought that they are the only one who has got a monopoly of vengeance........

I ll cite my working place as an example, I have a Yoruba guy from Ibadan who was a pain on peoples' ass. He is very tough and of course trouble seeking, but unfortunately he was the first person I met and we became friends but along the line, I realised that he was nothing but evil. However, I made up my mind to confront him and I did. He stopped coming to ask for free ride back home after work which was ok by me. He went to report me to another Nigerian that i betrayed him as a fellow Yoruba guy; that I fought him because of a guy from Sri Lanka(i think part of India before) and I told the other Nigerian guy that I was happy that I did. I just can't stand evil.

Finally, prior to Jonathan government? who ever thought that the heart of Igbos are filled up with such hatred towards Yorubas and Hausas? Please, go on Facebook and some fora to see the evil words that came out from the heart of these people. They called Hausas all sort of names as well as Yorubas. Historically, they formed alliance with the same Northerners in 63 and 79 at the detriment of other southerners and nobody preached against the Igbos in the south; most especially the Yorubas that has Chief Obafemi Awolowo as a candidate. No war against them in South west.

They seemed to have found comfort under Jonathan govt which has allowed them to show the new generation of Yorubas and Hausas how evil they can be and have always been. If you choose to keep quiet as a Yoruba, Ibibio, hausa or Itsekiri man, trust me, they are coming for your head one day.

NB, if you choose to keep quiet today over evil, the person at the receiving end of evil ll get tired one day and there ll be d same war u r trying to avoid.

If GEJ had won I am sure there would have been some gloating and triumphalism in the SS and SE which is unfortunate but true. We need to separate POLITICS from performance and I am one of those who agree that while GEJ's performance was poor he might have got away with it if maybe he was from the North.
The fact is he is from the South and he needed the entire south behind him to stand any chance. He FAILED to unite the South. In almost every thing he did he was DIVISIVE. He was able to persuade Tinub to back him in 2011. No one knows what promises he made and kept or failed to keep. Also all the key people in PDP like Oyinlola ,OBJ ,Iyabo Obasanjo, Dimeji Bankole etc from the SW where were they in his government.? Unfortunately there has always been unhealthy rivalry between the SE and SW . If he was focused on his ambition he should have managed this properly but he gave the impression that he was TAKING SIDES Perception is more important than reality often .When Yorubas were screamiing marginalization he ignored them.When it was claimed that Stella Oduah was ethnically cleansing Yorubas what did he do? A fatal error. He underestimated Tinubu which was probably a death sentence.Additionally a good general does not fight unnecessary battles. So why did he fight Amaechi ,Saraki etc .It would be interesting to know what was the deal with Tinubu.
He allowed his wife to interfere in issues that hindered rather than helped especially the Amaechi Issue. Even after the Amaechi issue started .He should have gone to beg Amaechi but was deceived A Blunder . Finally what was the political value of Dieziani Allison-Maduekwe as far as his reelection was concerned. Clearly she seemed compromised by corruption and therefore one must question the wisdom or value of keeping her from the point of view of reelection. Even if he wanted to keep the position in the SS which I support I do not see her as qualified either technically or politically there are many better choices from the SS. This was a very strategic position afterall. Other choices like Doyin Okupe only made him look like a learner.
