wetin do u wey dem dey rescue u? first note zartech does not sell broodstock, we go there to select/evaluate and you can be very lucky or otherwise. their males in most cases do better than d female, by d side bro, if u no fit call? cant u send a text message, i would had replied u without even bothering to ask who i was assisting. There is an act where u can inbreed quality characteristics within your stock for a while until you notice diminishing trait(if observant), then you discard or start cross breeding. in other words if u aint getting broodstocks outside, if u have great stock, u might use yours for a while( ask durante)

@akstar01, this is really strange, u said no crisis maybe its a case of predator either in human form or animal form. Was the pond covered with Net?, most times Dead ones dont float, loosing 750fishes in space of 2months is absurd. How was the fishes introduced to the pond? Was it confirmed 800pcs b4 stocking...

Many thanks to all the contributors on this thread, i have finally taken off with 150 juveniles of 9weeks on 27th March, already they are one week old and doing fine, i was given extra 10 for mortality. I change their water in days interval and yesterday one was seen injured which looks like attack, i have separated it to heal. Am just happy i met great poeple in this place, all thanks to Sir Robonski for creating the thread, respect to all contributors. I remain loyal.

hello johneey a ton is one thousand kg.. lets say during harvest you got 480 fish coz of mortality and the average weight per fish is 1kg and in your area its 500 per kg. multiply 480x1kg equals 480kg. multiply the kg by 500 I.e 480x#500 equalls #240,000. minus your expenses to derive at your net profit.

Indeed Earthen has its advantages & disadvantages. Meanwhile @ wot stage did u stock & how old are they now in pond?

I stocked 3rd week of December last year and up till now they av become big oooooooooooo .3 weeks ago I weighed one out of it was 0.5kg but d difference is clear now they av now big than d previous one.still need ur explanation on d period of harvest .pls to d consultant in d house is it good to leave it in 6 months old niiii.

I just have a small plastic pond which am using to test catfish farming. There is a very very big fish farmer I heard of at ihiala. Heard his workers are Yoruba's from the west. You can ask around and see if he sells fingerlings.

But first thing first, do you have source of water supply?

me sef look for government job tire so tey hunger almost send me free face-cap and T-shirt, not until I discovered my talent lol.

you have to get an experienced brick layer for the construction of the concrete pond and negotiate price. How many concrete pond do you want to build?
post fries prices differ from state to state In lag it goes for 13 to 15 naira depending on bargain power. you hv to look for a good hatchery to purchase your seeds.

Hey everyone, seeing the good work going on here. @robonski, fhemmy,mercylicious, (cant mention everyone).... been away for a while trying to sort out some water supply challenges and working on setting up a hatchery..... My fish stock will be ready by approx 1-2nd week of May, 2015. I am seeking interested whole sale purchasers; approximately, i should have about 35 tonnes of catfish available for sale... you can weigh to get the average weight of each fish before you sell. that would even give you idea of your profit ahead
like how many bags of 15kg feed have they eatrn so far.

The ponds are understocked which is even better.. I will advice you do some proper sorting into sizes to avoid cannibalism. seclude the two bigger ones asap.

house, what dimensions of a pond do i need to stock 2000 fingerlings to grow-out ?

guys, am having a big challenge getting a lime to treat my pond, d one I was advised to buy am not sure its d right lime to use cos d producer can't even advise me to use it. others asked me to use salt. pls help needed here o. I want to go and pump out the water tomorrow to make sure no animals there then I'll cover with the net. pls what do I do abt d treatment. d pond has been ready since over a week now but treatment is delaying me from stocking and starting another pond
