Great and sensible article. Nigerians always jubilate whenever a new government comes in. And within a year, reality sets in and criticism and frustration start.
As long as we do not deal with the root cause of our problem as a nation, I don't see much progress being made by the new government. There must be devolution of power away from the center to the states- true federalism.

This guy is just too sensible aha aha! I love to read his articles cos they are full of wise thinking! Why will people kill themselves cos of buhari victory? That's what prompted this write up! He said and I quote 'do we celebrate a child that wants to write an exam or the one that have passed' Etcetera is my man of the year! Can't we learn from 2011 when we voted for GEJ massively and what do we gain at the end? Wise up my country people! Let him perform before celebrating him!

Would etc condemn this celebtrations if gej were declared winner and people roll out drums in celebration?

This betrays your ill-feeling for the president-elect and his supporters.

One of the problems of Nigerians is their relativity which turns them amoral and hence retard progress. As long as right and wrong are in the eyes of the beholder, there can't be agreement and there can't be unity of purpose and there can't be achievement

Until Nigerians unite on right and wrong, commend what is right and condemn what is wrong, there can't be the revolutionary progress people are yearning for. People will continue to see right and wrong through the prism of ethnicity, religion, and other parochial considerations. This is a sure recipe for doom.

Mr etcetera permit me to say you belong to the old generation who never believe in anything good coming out of Nigeria. This is our generation and it's premised on CHANGE, it is what you wish and hope for that you get. The Nigeria we wish for is a Nigeria without gnashing of teeth, a Nigeria without youth unemployment, a Nigeria free from poverty and youth restiveness. This Nigeria has come to stay. If Buhari fails us we throw him out and get another Buhari. But the Buhari I know will not leave Nigeria in her tatters.

That's bull shit.
I am from ss but a strong supporter of Buhari, it is all about change.
Till we Nigerians remove ethnicity from our government/ presidential choices Nigeria will never move forward, my point is we have seen what Jonathan can do (Nothing), let us try something different for once. I don't need to vote for Jonathan because he is from ss, all I am concern about is the betterment of Nigeria, and mind you, Nigeria is in a new phase of democracy, if Buhari do not perform in the next four years he will be kicked out just like Jonathan.

you are dreaming to think u can kick out a core northerner from governement without completing 8 years...its deluson galore

why dancing is because we are freed from Jonathan clueless government. Why rolling out the drums is because we have successfully revolutionized against corrupt, inept and sectionalised administration of Jonathan.

I will continue to celebrate buhari's victory.

Etc, wait make i tell you my own reason;

For the mere fact that buhari will be incharge and not his wife is more than enough for me. If you live in Rivers state you will understand how i feel.

So bro, cool down and allow me wow in the euphoria of the moment.

Stay blessed.

am surprised you are taking the Buhari from its face value, that's literally. The Buhari in question simply means any sincere, honest, pragmatic, and corrupt free Nigerian. I believe we have Nigerians who are corrupt free, I don't know of you do too? Change only comes to the people when they believe and seek for it.

P.s:Let him write as much letters as he wants,he won't be celebrated by people like our Presido.

With all sincerity, what is wrong with his observations and clear points What I have observed over time on NL is that, we tend to comment out of sentiment and I don't think is the best. We should be realistic and be true to ourselves when it comes to political matters in Nigeria!!

The only people who criticize Mr. etc are people who can not read, and those who can read but can not understand.

The write-up is thought-provoking and straight truth. I am not surprise though by the abuse on Mr. etc, cos most supporters of Buhari fall into the category of illiterates like their master.

Why are we dancing? Why do we keep rolling out the drums each time we have a new government, only for us to start crying few months down the line? Is it that we are too quick to forget or we just love to dance? Do you celebrate a child who’s about to write his exams or the one who has written and passed? What is this jubilation for? Because I really don’t understand. Is it that the election of Buhari in itself has suddenly alleviated our sufferings? I am really confused here, hearing how six bikers lost their lives in Zaria celebrating Buhari’s victory.

One would think that a people who have been shortchanged for so long by past presidents will know better to be calm and take every word of the new president with a pinch of salt until he proves to be different. This process is becoming an unending circle, again and again we’ve danced and again and again, we’ve cursed and cried at the end.

It is still shocking to me that a lot of Nigerians fell for the story that the president was born without shoes. Was anyone born with shoes on? Buhari’s triumphant entry into the presidency last Sunday which coincidentally was a palm Sunday doesn’t yet prove he is the redeemer. Just like the second coming of our supposed political messiah Obasanjo didn’t prove any significant improvement in our lives.

We all thought he was the one anointed by the gods to take us by the hands and lead us right straight into the promised land, where we shall have no more gnashing of teeth. But when he left office, the roads were still as bad as they were before he took office. The hospitals were still without facilities and most importantly, he failed to defeat the demon in the power sector even with billions of dollars thrown at it. The demons in the same power sector have claimed Jonathan just like they did Yar’Adua, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Sanni Abacha, Shonekan, IBB and Shagari. Even Buhari himself had already been defeated by this demon before. So what says it is not going to be the same this time around. Remember obasanjo was defeated twice by this same demon.

Why won’t our leaders take us for granted when they’ve noticed that we are always ready to jump to our feet and “judile” with the announcement of every new regime? When Buhari overthrew the democratically elected government of Shehu Shagari in 1983, many of you reading this took to the streets to boogie down. When Babangida sent Buhari packing a couple of months later, a lot more of you got drunk and vomited all over the place. Even Abacha’s sudden death brought smiles on the faces of most bar owners across the country as they ran out of booze. Is something wrong with us as a people? We are forgetting a very important fact that this election proves that we are and will still remain a divided people. We are divided by our ideologies with no realistic integration in sight. The election has also reinforced the thinking that we are divided by regional, tribal and religious interests and not national. These are some of the significant issues that will define our tomorrow.

Finally, some of you who are reading this may be saying, oh Etcetera, can’t you be optimistic for once? My brother, I can’t. Optimism and its younger brother, hope have proven to be very dangerous especially in Nigeria. They have sent millions of Nigerians to their early graves. What is the point of being optimistic in a system that has always left me in tears and heartache? Or is it till I get arrested by Mr. Cardiac?
