agaugust: Web link proves that the Thales Ground search radar forms part of a ground based ISTAR capability SANDF has and that Nigeria does not.Are you too st.upid to even keep up with the argument? Your 50 air search radars are short range and they are nodes - they only see what is in their area - they cannot transmit information to the force commander they cannot co-ordinate defences. He cannot use them as early warning of air attacks meaning that you lose valuable minutes scrambling your F-7's - SANDF Gripen will be over your airbases before you can defend yourself, JDAMS and glide bombs will rain down on you SANDF has superior range mobile radar systems and they are intergrated meaning that all info is sent to central command and control centers in real time, while the complete air-picture allows the CRAM and Starstreak systems launch co-ordinated defence of instillations as well as earlyer scrambling of Gripen and Hawks to intercept. When GBADS is complete the Uhmkonto will slot into that to form the most advanced air defence network in Africa So, even despite the fact that you have changed the argument from ground search to air search - you still lose! 1 Like |

agaugust: SIPRI does not record domestic upgrades to the System which were performed under Project Rossma while we developed our own mobile radar the Kameelperd under Project Bioskoop - all completed in the mid 2000's onwards. http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-6479/ Also, well done on confirming we have 12 of that model. We are talking about ground search radars You are talking about air search radars - which is weird since you have none in this category So, all our mobile air-search radar was upgraded or built in the 2000's and our ground search radar is from 2010 onwards. You have ground search purchased in 1980, Shilka purchased in 1980 and Roland purchased in 1980 So, in terms of mobile air-search radar we are 66 years ahead of you (since you have none), in terms of mobile ground-search radar we are exactly 35 years ahead of you. Final figures compared by SIPRI 2 Likes |

Found this interesting. Mobile (trailer mounted) satellite communication system with 1 Signal Regiment. There is a 2m (approximately) satellite dish just above this. Operator said wherever his commanders need satellite comms, they can deploy the system. Said the system has been in service for about 4 years. Took a chance, asked him which satellites it communicates with....of course he said thats classified. System comes with secure/encrypted comms equipment in another trailer next to it. 2 Likes

jln115: Thanks. But the rest of the pics are of systems we all know. Rooikat etc etc. Dont want to overflood the forum. Was looking for specialised equipment we dont really see....e.g the bomb disposal robot. Need to meet a friend around Nasrec on monday, so might pop in for more pics i missed. Although i did see Goodluck Jonathan....now that he has more time on his hands. 3 Likes

saengine: Cool pics Bro..It looks like this years gear is way cooler than what they were showing last year. Is the Badger there cause i read somewhere that it would be there. And did you check out the Parabat Facility? |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by saengine: 7:26pm On Apr 04, 2015 |
Centrifude: Nope. Didnt see Badger. But Defenceweb stated it would be there. Took all these pics in about 10 minutes, so missed a bit. Was actually there to watch the air force capability display....which was quite nice and loud. Low flying Rooivalk, Oryx dropping/extracting troops , Augusta, and low high speed passes by Gripen. Infantry also put on a nice show in the small space available. |

saengine: Wow I didn't know we had Bridge deploying *TANKs* (O_o) I remember last year when I was talking to an Intelligence Operative and a Parabat, and the Parabat was complaining about how they are the ones who always get shot at and killed while the Intelligence guys never do sh1t and that they just hide in the bushes and trees busy taking pictures and talking on their radios. |

Patchesagain: You were mature enough to notice imminent defeat of your argument, and adjust your 66 years down to 25 years to avoid humiliation We have 46 mobile air search radars with 20 km range and all are armed to destroy air or ground target detected by the radars. SANDF has NOTHING like that, your radars have no weapons for attack. Full Data-link is NOT a weapon, and is NOT compulsory, even SANDF does NOT have 100% data-link, you are just starting with SAAF jets, etc, your army does NOT have data-link on all equipment, no money. Data-link exists on many Nigerian weapons individually, it's no magic wand to have datalink everywhere every platform, there are other communication equipment, ATR-42 has ELINT and superior data-link to Direct NA battles. Videos have shown that in Boko war. 66 years ? SANDF has 1980s radars according to SIPRI.....you are ahead of Lesotho NOT Nigeria, we both parade 1980s radar . |

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 8:38pm On Apr 04, 2015 |
Patchesagain: Your 14 Thales air search radars are short ranged, toys on human backpack, no armour, no weapons to attack the enemy they detect. They are NOT part of SNADF datalink, they are tiny infantry radars, all 14 CANNOT kill a pigeon in the air after detecting it. 46 Nigerian Shilka and Rolands will radar detect the enemy on ground and air and kill the enemy IMMEDIATELY ! SANDF is 66 years behind Nigeria, we have ISTAR + WEAPONS integrated .
