jln115:An oversight. With Cuban reinforcements, the Angolans withstood major assaults on January 23, February 25, and March 23. The South Africans were repulsed with heavy losses, and the Angolan/Cuban forces seized the initiative. For the first time since 1981, the Angolan army was able to reoccupy the area adjacent to Namibia. So confident were the Angolans and Cubans, that in the space of less than three months they built two air strips to consolidate their recapture of the southern province of Cunene. Trapped by the rainy season, bogged down by the terrain, and encircled, the South Africans made one desperate attempt to break out on June 27 and were again defeated. One South African newspaper called the defeat “a crushing humiliation.” http://monthlyreview.org/2013/04/01/the-military-defeat-of-the-south-africans-in-angola/ |

andrewza: Nope, SANDF does NOT get free weapons form DENEL, you make purchase order, sign contract of sale, pay cash and buy. You guys ruined DENEL financially few years ago with poor management at DENEL lost all it's cash, almost collapsed , and government had to pay cash for bail out. DENEL cannot, CANNOT afford to give away free missiles or equipment to SANDF. Government ownership does NOT = Charitable organization like Red Cross ! Mokopa missile is NOT wanted by SANDF according to your own SAAF Brigadier General, who gave technical reasons, I psoted the long interview here from defenseweb. NO NEED TO REPEAT SAME STORY AGAIN AND AGAIN ! Mokopa missile NOT in service. CASE CLOSED . |

andrewza: You have this craaazy idea that people own what does not belong to them. Ford is an American company with branch in South Africa. Does it make Ford a Southie brand and product ? Kia motors have opened factory to make cars in Nigeria, so does Nigeria now own Kia automobile brand ? You must be insaane Ford is an American product . |

jln115: Missile range of A-Darter is worse than IRIS-T. SAAF A-Darter 20 km NAF PL-9C BVR 35 km Sorry, NAF has to shooot down all SAAF jets before you can launch any A-Darter.....Gripen/Hawk die from 35 km away . |

Nigeria is Africa's black power ! We have the best brains, we don't get jobs by ANC type of BEE programme for putting people in top positons with their bottom level brains Shame on you dullard blacks and cloured m.orons of South Africa.... agaugust:"PL-9C BVR 35 km" Your quoting the ground based missile. The PC-9 air to air missile has a range of 22km "A-Darter 20 km" Still not confirmed but lets take it as 20km. For someone who claims he is a defence expert, you ought to know that the range of a missile doesnt mean f@ck if it is easily countered. The A-Darter is a fifth generation missile and one of the best , if not thee best in its class. So you might think, what are the advantages of a fifth gen missile? The latest generation of short-range missiles again defined by advances in seeker technologies, this time electro-optical imaging infrared (IIR) seekers that allow the missiles to "see" images rather than single "points" of infrared radiation (heat). The sensors combined with more powerful digital signal processing provide the following benefits: greater infrared counter countermeasures (IRCCM) ability, by being able to distinguish aircraft from infrared countermeasures (IRCM) such as flares. greater sensitivity means greater range and ability to identify smaller low flying targets such as UAVs. more detailed target image allows targeting of more vulnerable parts of aircraft instead of just homing in on the brightest infrared source (exhaust). 1 Like |

agaugust:"you guys ruined DENEL financially few years ago with poor management at DENEL lost all it's cash, almost collapsed , and government had to pay cash for bail out. DENEL cannot, CANNOT afford to give away free missiles or equipment to SANDF." Thought we cleared up this argument? Firstly Denel never gave free weapons to the SANDF Secondly the Government never bailed Denel out! Lastly making a loss doesnt mean your financially ruined there are many other factors that need to be taken into account, as i mentioned in previous posts.Thought you said you were an accounting expert aswell? Now go read the source you posted on this subject again and very carefully: http://m.mg.co.za/article/2005-06-17-rescue-plan-for-denel-takes-shape |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by saengine: 2:35am On Apr 05, 2015 |
agaugust: Nigeria has no 35km air to air missile. Only in your head it is real. But let's pretend..... A Darter is a 5th generation missile with self defence capability. PL-9 has NO/ZERO self defence capability. Gripen and Hawk will defend themselves and proceed to turn your F-7 jets into scrap metal. Only one dying will be F-7 pilots. Iris-T and A Darter....self defence capability. By the way...where are your JF-17's? You said you would have them by the time Denel starts producing A Darter for SAAF. http://www.janes.com/article/50334/denel-gets-a-darter-production-contract "Denel Dynamics was awarded a five-year production contract on 19 March by Armscor for the A-Darter air-to-air missile. Developed under Project Kamas, the missile will initially arm the South African Air Force's (SAAF's) Saab Gripen C/D fighters, complementing the small batch of IRIS-T missiles acquired as interim armament from Diehl BGT Defence. The A-Darter will also be integrated with the SAAF's Hawk Mk 120 jets, giving the advanced trainers a self-defence capability and allowing their use in some airspace patrol roles." Game over. Find a hole to crawl into. |

agaugust: Your rant reminds me of my 8 year old nephew when he doesnt get his way. Your air search radars are ancient nodes and do not have synergy. They are obsolete and ancient. As I showed you with citations - all platforms have ever been upgraded in the 2000's or purchased in the 2000's under Project Rossma while we developed our own mobile radar the Kameelperd under Project Bioskoop http://itweb.co.za/mobilesite/defenceweb/home/item_id-6479/ Data-link is not a weapon - but it makes your weapons 100X more effective and with better situational awarness you can defeat your foe with ease and is fully intergrated into the SANDF. And yes - datalinks are compulsory for modern militarys “It allows them to easily and seamlessly exchange information which enhances command and control, it shortens the sensor to shooter time loop, thereby enhancing weapon control and it boosts situational awareness by helping answer the critical battlefield questions of ‘where am I?’, ‘where are my buddies?’, ‘where is the enemy?’, and ‘what next?’” For the artillery, it has brought down the time from when an observer spots a target to when the first round is fired at it from six to 10 minutes to just 90 seconds. “You can just about hit a moving truck,” says Hanley. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6184:zz&catid=79:fact-files&Itemid=159 Nigeria only has individual assets you do not have an intergrated system that brings together ground and air radar search platforms, targetting systems, air defence systems, artillery systems, aircraft and army formations. Your military is an obsolete 1980's army. |

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:34am On Apr 05, 2015 |
agaugust: Augustus. This is truly getting pathetic. I admire your efforts to defend your obsolete military, but it is really boring. Our 14 thales radars have longer range than your RASIT system. Their intergration into LinkZA has allready been posted many times. And they are practically invisible. Your Rolands and Shilka are not ground observation radars. Your Rolands and Shilka are easy to detect - both visually and by the signals they send out. Your Rolands and Shilka do not share information with command posts and each other - they can only see what is happening in their tiny bubble. Your military has no situational awareness, no ground based ISTAR, no data-sharing. We have dedicated platforms such as Starstreak and CRAM which do the killing - both of which are intergrated into LinkZA In terms of mobile air-search radar Nigeria is 1000 years behind the SANDF. In terms of ground based ISTAR 30 years behind the SANDF - and with only 2 units to our 14!!

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 4:43am On Apr 05, 2015 |
agaugust: Operation Torch was the biggest amphibious operation in Africa. Citation about your landings. Quito Cuanaval was the biggest conventional battle in Africa since WW2 We had dog-fights, tank battles, artillery duels, advanced air defence networks on both sides, electronic warfare, drones, ATGM's! What did you have? Biafran Cessna's humiliating your airforce? A bunch of igbo's throwing cassava at each other? |
