'D' is Wrong. Let's see what others got before I proceed. English goes our way all the time if we follow its rules; we are all slaves to the language. Rules rules rules!!! |

You wouldn't have been wrong if you had taken 'C'. 'B' is wrong! Please, I want you all to pay attention to this because it will save you from stress and failure if you come across such question and others similar to it, and necessarily also, it will save you from grammatical blunders. Perhaps, you are judging with how it sounds, na na na.... When the first clause of a sentence is in present tense, the second clause MUST be in present tense. And when the verb of the first clause is in past tense, the verb of the second clause must be in past tense too. Let me explain with this example: Would you come to my house in lagos/ if I promised to love you? Would you come to my house in Lagos(first clause) If I promised to love you?(Second clause). I believe you can see the 'would' and 'promised'. If I had used 'will'(which is a present tense), I wouldve used 'promise'(present also) Example: 'Will' you come to my house in Lagos/ if I 'promise' to love you? Now, back to the question; I would have _run_ out of breath if she had not come; thus I would always welcome her anytime she _came_ around. The past participle of RUN is RUN. And in the second part; I used 'came' because of the 'would' .....thus I WOULD always welcome her anytime she CAME around. It's not just about how the context sounds in your lips, it's about what the context has at stake. The verbs in a sentence must agree! Thank you. The answer is 'C' dharay99:You wouldn't have been wrong if you had taken 'C'. 'B' is wrong! A thousand times and more would I die in your place... I have nothing left but broken dreams. Life has bruised me, powerless, I bow. With broken heart, I succumb to the bizarre beckoning of nature. I lost heaven a long time ago, hell is for me... God created me to wither like sun-scorched lilies, God created me to waste away... |
