Nigerian Navy Begins Proficiency Drills
March 24, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, Nigeria
The Nigerian Navy on Monday [March 23] began series of proficiency drills on waterways and creeks as part of its preparation for the March 28 and April 11 elections.

Addressing newsmen during the exercise at Onne waterways in Rivers , the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, Commodore Godwin Ochai, said the exercise was aimed at showcasing the readiness of the navy for the electoral exercise.

He said the operation conformed with the navy’s mandate of providing maritime security for election officials, materials and the people to ensure the exercise was conducted peacefully in coastal communities.

“This operation is a confidence building exercise that seeks to instill confidence in sea fearers and the electorate so as to be able to exercise their democratic rights in the elections.

“Additionally, these drills are a demonstration of our readiness to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with security provision on our waterways and creeks during the elections that is about to commence,” he said.

“Our gun boats and personnel are strategically positioned on different parts of the waterways and creeks for rapid response when called upon,” he said.

He warned criminals and other undesirable elements on the waterways to stay away as the navy would fully exercise control on the waterways.

Ochai, who spoke through his Executive Officer, Capt. Sam Bura, expressed confidence that the navy, in collaboration with other security agencies, would ensure that the electorate in coastal areas voted for candidates of their choice.

He said the exercise and the 24-hour patrol of the coastal areas would continue before, during and after the elections.

South Africa Air Force Museum Receives Cessna 150 from Nigeria
March 11, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, Nigeria, South Africa
On Saturday, 07 March 2015, the Chief of the South African Air Force (CAF), Lt Gen F.Z. Msimang received a Cessna 150 (replica) aircraft from the Nigerian Civil Training Centre. The handing-over ceremony was held at the South African Air Force (SAAF) Museum.

The ceremony served as a milestone in the history of the SAAF. It is an opportunity to reflect on the training of Non-Statutory Force (NSF) pilots’ pre-1994 and to recover the success story over this period and time.

The aircraft produced the current and former leaders in the SAAF. In the late 1970s, Maj Gen G. Malinga (Deputy Chief of Air Force), Maj Gen M.M. Mangethe (retired), Maj Gen L. Ngema (retired) and more, were trained and qualified as pilots on this aircraft.

Maj Gen H.T. Paine (retired) officially handed over the aircraft’s log book to the CAF that will soon form part of the SAAF Museum inventory under the command of Lt Col M.F. O’Connor. The former graduates are expected to accompany the CAF to this special occasion.

Nigerian Navy Tipped to Lead Maritime Fusion Center
February 18, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, Nigeria
The Nigerian Navy is being tipped to be the lead agency in the Federal Government’s quest to automate and link up all government agencies in the maritime sector.

The project will involve the satellite coverage of the entire Nigeria’s maritime space, linking all agencies, including Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), NAFDAC and indeed all concessionaires of the ports.

Senior special assistant to the President on maritime services, Olugbenga Leke Oyewole disclosed in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent that Government is establishing a maritime fusion center, when all agencies will operate under a single electronic platform, saying, “The Nigerian Navy will lead the other agencies.”

Nigerian Navy is currently the chairman at the inter agency maritime operations coordinating committee. “So, they are also going to lead the fusion center,” he said.

But the only snag, hitherto, was the fact that all the agencies operating in the ports are under different supervising ministry. “The integration of the maritime agencies is proceeding very well. We are looking at having a fusion center where we are going to have the procedures and processes of all the agencies fused on one encrypted platform,” he said.

According to him, all the agencies concerned have all met and they keyed into the vision, with the belief that it is something that is needed by the country.

This lead agency will coordinate activities in the sector, just like the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) was created to coordinate security among all security agencies.

South African Presdeint and SANDF Den Private Use of Military Helicopters
March 30, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, South Africa
The Presidency and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have dismissed reports that alleged family members of President Jacob Zuma made use of a military helicopter for personal travel between Durban and Nkandla.

On Sunday, the City Press had reported that the backup Oryx helicopter was grounded due to lack of funds.

The Presidency labelled this report as baseless and mischievous, while the SANDF said it was spurious allegations.

“At no point has the SA Air Force helicopter been used to transport family members. Furthermore, at no point was such ever raised by any of the crew members of the Air Force with the Command of the Air Force,” SANDF said in a separate statement.

Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj explained that the tasking for President Zuma’s travel is made by the Presidency and it is stipulated clearly that the aircraft or helicopter is being booked for his use.

He said family members such as a spouse or a child may travel if accompanying the principal.

“At no stage has the Presidency ever made bookings for family members travelling alone. The South African Air Force has also informed the Presidency that no such misuse of the helicopters has ever occurred,” Maharaj said.

He said the City Press reporter was informed by both the Presidency and the Department of Defence that there is no truth in the rumour but the newspaper continued to publish.

“The Presidency is alarmed by the blatant reporting of such an untruth, the purpose of which could only be to contribute to the stereotyping of the President and his family.”

Cuban Military in South Africa Under Technical Agreement
March 3, 2015 - Uncategorized - Tagged: Africa, Africa Defence, African Defense, African Military, South Africa

The technical team from the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces has arrived in South Africa to help the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to service and maintain its military vehicles and build internal technical capacity.

The technicians have already started working in various centres of the SANDF across the country.

The arrival of the team follows a technical agreement that was signed between the two armed forces under an existing Military to Military Agreement, the Department of Defence said on Monday.

“This agreement is set to create an internal pool of technical skills in the SANDF, which will enable the Defence Force to properly service and maintain its vehicles. Since the arrival of the Cuban mechanics, there has been a markedly increased manner in the servicing of vehicles,” spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said.

SANDF has had numerous problems in the maintenance of vehicles at a very high cost with little benefit, according to Dlamini.

Through this agreement, Dlamini said the SANDF will be able to develop its own internal capacity and save on costs while bringing up its vehicle serviceability.

“More importantly, the SANDF will be able to build internal capacity to ensure the serviceability of its vehicles in operational areas where it has been facing serious challenges, which had a negative impact on the reimbursement from the United Nations.”

Why does the Gripen only hit the target 5km away?

Why not 10? 15? 20?

No pilot has shot one down because 3rd gen missiles are only starting to be used now - and incase you noticed there hasnt been air-to-air combat in allmost a decade.

Why did you say Gripen radar detects F-7 from 120 km away, why not 50 km ? In war do you always have airbases and frontlines 120 km away from each other like from one city to three cities away ? What is an FOB, what is a forward airstrip or air base ?

....go back to the beginning of the argument, the missiles have traveled and the pilots have traveled to close gap from distance and the Gripen is now 5 km away from missiles explosion blast radius.....or does your brain work in reverse gear ?

Ok - this is a very long post.

It shall defeat it 6 with words:

The Gripen turns away from the explosion.

You sad sad little boy, you know you arent a military researcher, we know you arent as well. Yet you continue to claim you are one. Its, well, its just sad.

You cannot turn a high speed jet aircraft away from a frontal incoming divergent wave explosion in 4 seconds.

Gripen is travelling at supersonic high speed 2,000 km/h and just 4 seconds away from an incoming explosion that is throwing high speed debris, fire and sharp projectiles in divergent wave (SPREADING OUTWARD INCREASING AREA COVERAGE IN A 360 DEGREE SPHERICAL DIRECTION.....four dimensional explosion on all four cardinal points....see my photo below).

The Gripen is not a spirit that turns in half a second, not even one second, pilots needs several seconds to pull throttle stick, jet needs time to respond, airframe ailerons and flaps need time to respond, jet fighters CANNOT make high g pulls or sharp turns at supersonic high speed, the jet will stall.....means lose control by losing engine power, or the wings can break off and tear off the aircraft.

Gripen has died o !

I just showed you why close range air combat is called a zone of death, and the 20 km missile range is a NO ESCAPE ZONE for pilots.

Also, I have shown you why no pilot in this world has ever stopped a missile with his own missile, air to air missiles, NO PILOT NO WAR HAS EVER ACHIEVED THAT MISSION IMPOSSIBLE !

Always one step ahead of you.....get it ? Yes you get it !

By the way, the South Africans are quiet about the incompetent Kenyan military and security, if it was Nigeria, they will shout ans nearly shiit for pa.nt

Henry120:

The U.S military spends 17,000 dollars on the gear of an average soldier.

Another concern is the increasing cost of vehicles, equipment, and individual gear. General Anderson said that it costs more than $17,000 to fully outfit an individual soldier. For example, the various components of modern body armor costs almost $4,000 per set. More advanced armor is in the offing -- which will cost more. The next most expensive items for the rifleman is his M16A4 rifle -- $1,200. And, the next most costly item is the ILBE (Individual Load Bearing Equipment) harness -- $415.

That is why I said, South African army should deploy 30,000 troops into one single battle theatre like Nigerian army and let us see how well kitted their soldiers will be.

It's easy to put 1,000 troops into UN Peace mission and dress them like American soldiers, but deploy 30,000 troops and see the cost of kits

"You cannot turn a high speed jet aircraft away from a frontal incoming divergent wave explosion in 4 seconds."

4 seconds is fcking slow!!!
The average human has a reaction time of about 260 milliseconds, thus even a very very average person like yourself will be able to avoid the blast with ease in 4 seconds!

That is why I said, South African army should deploy 30,000 troops into one single battle theatre like Nigerian army and let us see how well kitted their soldiers will be.

It's easy to put 1,000 troops into UN Peace mission and dress them like American soldiers, but deploy 30,000 troops and see the cost of kits
.

All South African soldiers are equipped in the exact same way.

I'm done doing petty arguments with you folks. Hence forth I shall be giving the audience piece by piece excerpts of that war. How south Africa is officially a lying country with no truth whatsoever. And you SA folks here are just as pathetic as your lying disgraced army. Enjoy the read:

29 February 1988 Fifth Attack
Again when the SA attacked the Angolans suffered some losses, as every time exaggerated to 800 dead and 7 tanks destroyed.
And as ever the enemy attack was rejected, but this time for the first time, the radio stations intercepted an official military SA report that admitted 20 dead and 59 wounded only in the battle of the day.
It was now evident and infamous how the Apartheid regime informed only the more rich and prestigious families about the dead of their sons. Many South African parents, that had not many links with the dictatorship, received no information and in some case also threats, imposing silence.
The 17 March, Ernesto Chavez on his MiG-23 is shot down and killed by a South African anti-aircraft weapon, a Ystervark of 20mm. It was the only victory of the South African anti-aircraft defence.
The 19 March during a lone Recce mission the Mirage of Willie Van Coppenhagen crashed and the pilot was killed. The enemy didn’t know the cause and supposed an accident, but at real it was shot down by Angolans.

Courtosy of an official USMC study on the border war:

In 1978 the SADF conducted two coordinated raids against SWAPO in Angola.Operation
Reindeer consisted of an airborne assault on Cassinga, a training base morethan 250 kilometers from the border. It resulted in six hundred dead and 340 woundedinsurgents. Simultaneously, a mechanized task force comprised of fifty-four armoredvehicles conducted a successful raid against a headquarters (HQ) and log base atChetequera.
Reindeer produced excellent intelligence on PLAN doctrine, organization, and strategy. It also demonstrated the vulnerability of light airborne forces; when theCassinga task force withdrew via helicopter, it was under heavy pressure from FAPLAarmor units.
19

Operation Sceptic
in 1980, was a three-week raid on SWAPO HQ by four mechanized battalion combat groups. The groups destroyed, over a period of four days, ahuge base area more than two thousand square kilometers in size. The goal of theoperation was to force the insurgents to move further away from the border area andcomplicate their access to the Ovambo population in Namibia.
Sceptic killed 380 guerrillas at the cost of seventeen South Africans; it also produced hundreds of tons of captured ammunition, weapons, and equipment.
20

Protea
in 1981, was another three-week operation conducted by six SADF combatgroups. During this raid the SADF fought a combined FAPLA/PLAN force in a series of set-piece battles. The South African combat groups mauled two FAPLA brigades, destroyed three hundred tons of ammunition, and captured eight T-34 tanks, three PT-76amphibious tanks, three BRDMs, one BM-21, twenty-four 76mm guns, sixteen AU-23-2antiaircraft guns, fourteen M55 20mm AAA guns, and two hundred trucks. FAPLA'sdefeat forced it and SWAPO to withdraw far from the southern edge of Angola.

Daisy
a follow-on operation derived from Protea's intelligence windfall, saw SADFfighting columns roam four hundred kilometers into Angola to destroy a SWAPO HQ atBambi and a base at Cherequera. It took four days to get to the targets; once on site themechanized columns spent twelve days razing the base. Due to the damage induced by Protea and Daisy SWAPO terrorist incidents in Namibia declined twenty-eight percentduring the following year.

Operation Askari
in 1983-84, was designed to neutralize the growing threat and disrupt the logistic support necessary for the annual infiltration of insurgents into Namibia. Four SADF battalion-size mechanized task forces combed southern Angola over a five week span. On 3January 1984, the SADF fought 11 Brigade (FAPLA) and for the first time, two Cubanbattalions, in a hard fought engagement. The South Africans killed 324 enemy and captured eleven T-54 tanks and much other combat equipment for the loss of twenty-one men.

HAHAHA!!! such desperation.

You clearly haven't even noticed the point....fake military researcher!!! grin grin cheesy grin

How can two air to air missiles cause an explosion of blast diameter 11.2 KILOMETERS grin

You cant even comprehent that its not possible. Are they nuclear tipped warheads? The photo i used is of a NUCLEAR EXPLOSION FO.OL grin grin

Worst case scenario....Gripen is stationary and not moving. Meaning the explosion will need 11.2 kilometer blast diameter to damage Gripen = NOT POSSIBLE grin.

Real world scenario....Gripen will bank directly away from incomining PL-9, fire A-Darter in self defence. Meaning the blast needed to destroy Gripen is even more than 11.2 kilometers diameter = NOT POSSIBLE grin

Gripen pilot will not keep flying straight towards an incoming missile. You made that sh*t up....fail!!! He will evade threat, and fire A-Darter missile while he is evading (over the shoulder firing).

You are not a military researcher....you are a security guard. Fraud!!!

11.89 kg warhead of PL-9 plus A-Darter warhead will cause an explosion of blast diameter 11km? Hahaha....how embarrassing grin

Mister Liar ! You said yesterday that the explosion is 5.6 km away from the Gripen, so when you say my reply, you magically changed it to two times farther away at 11 km.....Fear of defeat...leads to wild imaginations grin grin

Fact is, the supersonic speed Gripen is speeding at 2,000 km/h into the blast 5.6 km distance ahead, and the blast is also speeding debris and projectiles towards the Gripen in head on collision.....hear your own voice below...

saengine:

Meaning...PL-9 missile was 5.6 km away from hitting Gripen before A-Darter blew it up. But remember YOU said this same explosion will blow up/damage Gripen in its fireball and shrapnel....im starting to laugh already grin

Next, you say 11.8 kg explosive of both missiles ?

Well, a military researcher is always one step ahead of you grin

PL-9C missile high explosive warhead alone is 11.89 kg....say 12 kg.

Add A-Darter warhead, say another 12 kg.

Total high explosive = 24 kg = 3 times the explosive power of anti-tank landmine that blows up solid steel armoured main battle tanks !

Plus the fuel inside both missiles, say 10 gallons of flammable fuel ! You forgot to add fuel explosion to warhead explosion !

So, power of the blast is = 3 anti-tank land mines and 10 gallons of petrol all mixed together against an aluminium/glass body aircraft !

Why does the Gripen only hit the target 5km away?

Why not 10? 15? 20?

No pilot has shot one down because 3rd gen missiles are only starting to be used now - and incase you noticed there hasnt been air-to-air combat in allmost a decade.
