In Nigeria and some other societies? Definitely. In fact, it's what causes the insecurity.
There are lots of women who don't face this pressure but still lie about their age for one reason or the other.
I guess this is where upbringing comes in.
I think people should just be themselves and not try to lie about it.

My age got stuck at 21 since 2011 grin Not my fault though, it is the economic situation of the country. How do you expect me to get jobs at MT coys that ask for 18-25 years old B.Sc olders with 12 years Post NYSC experience undecided

As for boys, I don't lie to them about my age cos I love money more than men, only money can make me change my age grin

I've been pondering over what could be the possible cause of this trend for the past two years and I came to this conclusion that 98% of ladies that have attained an advanced marriageable age you come across with the intent to date or have a relationship with is usually 25 years of age. grin

What could be responsible for this level of deceit ? I'm old enough to know the age range of someone I'm talking with, but to my utter dismay these ladies blatantly lie to my face and when you get to find out about their real age ,they simply smile over it and behave as if nothing happened.Funny though I've seen this same trend across three different major cities of Nigeria and I am not finding it funny anymore. angry

I want our beautiful ladies in the house to help us with answers here, because it's beginning to look like every mature girl you come across would always lie about their real age.

And please guys too with similar experience should help.

Don't mind them jare, Men lie more about the stuffs they accuse women of lying about. Even very fat ones use old pictures as DP just to deceive people.

I have this gurl I was dating

I knew her in 2011 and she told Mii she was 25 and we were talking last month and she said she will 26 this year

I was an INEC Ad-hoc staff during voters card registration.
Women as old as 35 were claiming 25, the younger ones that is even 27 were claiming to be 20 while 25 years were said to be 18.

There was one of them that lied, saying she was born on 30 february. I told her there was nothing like february 30 and that the month of February often end on 28 day of the month.

There was another one that even forgot to prepare her lie, she failed to calculate her false age well. She claim to be 18 years but forgot to calculate the month and day. After I input her data on the system, the INEC application rejected it because she is not 18. When I told her that she can't register because she is not up to 18 she shouted and beg me to increase her age. It's obvious to me that she is more than 25 yet lied.

There were many cases of liars, even guys lie too. A young man of 30 will want to be registered as 24 years old.

I still wonder why the lies

During the registration, I notice old people rarely lie. The liars were always young people from 35 years and below. They often claim any number of age that suits them.

Well, since I was there to register Nigerians I didn't care.
