Project Biro bidders’ conference attracts 80 companies The recent IPV/OPV bidder conference in Simon’s Town was attended by no less than 80 representatives of both the South African and international shipbuilding sectors. The conference was arranged by Armscor as a precursor to the issuing of tenders for three inshore patrol vessels (IPVs) and the same number of offshore patrol platforms. As far as the next step in the acquisition process is concerned he said: “Prospective contractors will continue to prepare their offers for the June 30 closing date. Offers will then be evaluated and the preferred contractor or contractors identified”. - Defenceweb 1 Like |

Patchesagain: You are getting no transport planes. For a country that has only 3 C-130's it is astonishingly pitiable that your Government thinks it's better to use the funds designated for troop transports for luxurious jets. Useless country. 1 Like 1 Share |

Patchesagain: You were roundly and comprehensively defeated. All sources on the ground allude to this fact. "Bangui - South African soldiers in the Central African Republic are seeking safe passage to the airport after taking heavy losses during fighting with Seleka rebels, Reuters reports." "Amy Martin of the UN's humanitarian agency, OCHA, told the BBC World Service that the SA troops had retreated to their barracks and were seeking safe passage to the airport." "Seleka spokesperson Eric Massi said the rebels had broken through a line of South African soldiers during their push into the city." http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/News/SA-soldiers-in-CAR-retreat-to-barracks-want-out-20130324 1 Like |

MikeCZAR: Nigeria did not loose a single shred of grass to any terrorist. Our Mantra has and would always remain, the Federal Government has not and did not concede any territory to terrorists". Nigeria bought 2 VIP helicopters and ordered 40 Helicopters ( MI-35p/MI-35M/MI-17termintor1SH and Gazelle) for the military. The government didn't stop there. They went ahead and got 2 additional Transport planes for the NAF. Compare that to a South-African Government that blew away money meant for Troop Transports on luxury jets. SAAF deployed No reinforcements to bangui, you were defeated and you ran away. Pathetic Nation of incompetent cowards. There is no project to get transport planes, as Zuma has blown away the money meant for Transport planes. African Big man style. Afterall, you said visiting Algeria and Egypt is more important than the lives of SANDF troops. Shame, 3 Transport planes for a country the size of South-Africa. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Henry120: How did you recapture 35 towns if you lost no towns? VIP transport aquisitions were budgeted and planned for last year - to be realized this year MPA's and transports were budgeted and planned for this year - to be realized next year SANDF deployed re-enforcements to CAR - this is indepsutable fact 35 transports for a country the size of South Africa and an SANDF of 82,000 (2342 men per plane) Compared to Nigeria with 17 transport aircraft for a military of 130,000 (7647 men per plane) You have no argument, stop wasting my time. 1 Like |

Henry120: Nigeria bought all that when they were put on the corner of destruction. SA would do the same and even outdone Nigeria in procuring arms because we have 3X more revenues than your government. SA were not defeated in Bangui and our parliament took decision to call off their deployments because there was no government anymore in Bangui. Did you expert SA to kill all Seleka rebels and suffer the blames from the world that they have now become imperialists? Meanwhile, the only nation that lost the battle on their playground is none other than Nigerian troops. BH defeated them with rusty weapons to the extent that they ran helter skelter buying illegal weapons and even recruiting mercenaries. BH proved more powerful than Nigerian troops. If it were not for mercenaries, almost half of the Nigerian territory would have been lost to BH. Thanks Nigeria for voting Buhari in power. |

South Africa is not like Nigeria - we dont rush through the second hand store and grab whatever we can when we purchase. We take our time and plan carefully. Budgets have been announced, meaning treasury has given the go-ahead. Deals will go through in due course. 3 Likes |

Patchesagain: Bwahahaha See who is talking ! The SANDF troops below DO NOT have standard kit....see the American soldiers beside SANDF....you claim Southie has NATO standards Your South African troops in operation zone photos below have lots of MISSING KIT for most of them ! 1. No gloves 2. No knee pads 3. No bullet proof vests 4. No helmets Over half of the troops you put into that 3,000 men SANDF training with Americans have no fvcking SANDF kits, see them incomplete ! Half kitted SANDF troops . LOL You just proved us right, in that ops where SANDF was forced to deploy 3,000 men, over half CANNOT get complete kit !!!! So you guys have been deceiving us on this forum for 4 years, showing photos of 10 to 20 SANDF soldiers fully kitted in various photos, now we forced you to post photos from a 3,000 troop operation and ALL WE SEE ARE SANDF TROOPS WITH MISSING VITAL KITS Many have no helmet, no gloves, no knee pads, even worse no body armour or bullet proof vests. SANDF is proved poorly kitted, you CANNOT kit just 3,000 troops. Nigeria beats you hands down on soldiers kit .

agaugust: 1. Glovs are not needed 2. Knee pads are not needed 3. Men are wearing helmets or have them attached to their packs 4. Body armor is only worn in urban combat or in operations that will result in high intensity combat. This has been the way we fight since Angola. Americans also do not wear their plate-carriers all the time. Its worn dependant on need. SANDF is better equipped and has standard equipment. Find and provide links of SANDF personal equipment shortages if you can. Your argument is pointless and a waste of time. More pics from joint accord.

Henry120: Our primary objective is to defend our country from invasion by terrorists. We had no interests in Bangui other than to train their government troops. We had nothing to lose. Nigeria was forced to defend and protect their land and people. SA was never in that position. End of story. |

Patchesagain: SANDF has only one uniform ....Bwahahaha....your deep brown camo uniform will make your soldiers easy target in a yellow sand desert. Standard armies like America, Russia, etc have different army uniforms for different terrain combat.\ Nigeria has jungle camo, desert camo, and urban camo uniforms for our troops, we even now added one universal semi-desert uniform. Nigerian army is superior to SANDF in kit and uniform. Those SANDF dark brownie uniforms will get your soldiers killed from 2 km away in yellow sand desert war, no wonder SANDF never likes to fight outside homeland South Africa Show us SANDF desert camo, below is Nigeria ! We are superior, we fight all over the world, all terrain army of Naija ! .

agaugust: Some people are just pretending to know a lot more about military affairs when they do not even know a single spark of light about military. In military we have different dress codes for different event. Every SA soldier is issued with a complete set of whatever is necessary for a combat readiness, from utensils to battle dress. Inspection is held consistently to ensure compliance to the policy. GLOVES- Some soldiers might make use of gloves while others not. They are only worn for specific tasks and are not battle intensive. KNEE PADS- same as gloves, some soldiers might find them very uncomfortable to use. BULLET PROOF VESTS- Only a special branch of infantry wear bullet proof vests. Special forces, Soldiers conducting patrol, Regimental police manning access control like gates, etc. Bullet proof vest is only specific to the tasks and cannot be warn by the general infantry even in the US Army HELMETS- that is a standard practice and compulsory for every soldier, unless you are blind every SA soldier is wearing a helmet, unless he was just about to wear it. You will be charged for not wearing helmet in SANDF. Hope I gave you free lessons, you are owing me a lot of money for your tuition. |

agaugust: All you get as a result is units wearing mixmatched cammo and makes it easy for enemy to masquearde as your soldiers. Our cammo is designed to be effective in all environmental types (see pics) 1. Desert 2. Jungle 3. Savannah Unlike your cammo which was made on Microsoft Paint, ours is the product of extensive hi-tech studies done by the CSIR with years of research in order to come up with a comprehensive multiple-use camouflage uniform. Not only that, but it is designed to keep you cool when it is hot, warm when it is cold, breezy when you are sweaty and dry when it is wet. Its more advanced than most of your military equipment combined! And no, most modern militaries dont have multiple cammo's for multiple terrains The US army who have only one cammo type - UCP The US marines who only have one type = MARPAT And the british with only one type - MTP And Canada with one type - CADPAT And France who are standardizing to one type - FÉLIN So, Mr Military researcher - why dont you know that most nations are standardizing their cammo?
