@ jasper, if you read marketing or economics, i wouldn't be surprised. I have followed you to believe that what we actually need is not capital cash but capital sense, you have graciously conquered the hurdles of seed procurement, seed germinate, seed growth, fruiting, watering, seasonal planting, weed and paste control, quality products and now marketing, it will only take it will only require capital sense to have gone this far. I respect the passion in you to lead the nigerian youth through this path, posterity will never forget your kind of person. All thanks to a friend who told me about Nairaland, i have learnt alot toiling the pages and forums of this great site, thanks to seun thanks to all contributors of differentthreads on this site. I have decided to give a shot to agriculture after studying Engineering.

Posterity will ever remain fair to you sir. EXCESS.

I was discussing Fresh Food Marketing with a friend just a few days back, and contrary to how easy I make it sound on paper to sell stuff. It's actually a herculean task. Production is easier than marketing.

It will be erroneous for any individual to perceive or deduct that marketing of Fresh Food is easy. This is because Fresh Food is highly perishable which makes the marketer a bit nervous when goods remain is his store for more than a day or 2.

That's why you can't really talk of building an Agribusiness Empire without talking of Preservation. Do you know that with the right cooling temperature, vegetables can last in the store for 28 days or more. Yes, yes, yes. It can be done, even without electricity. I have achieved 13days, I am heading for 20 and gradually will hit a month. If the puzzle of preservation can be cracked, then marketing becomes an easy nut to crack.

IF I HEAR ANYBODY SAY THERE ARE NO OPPORTUNITIES IN NIGERIA angry angry angry

Today, I visited one of the most inspiring places, I might go to this year.

2 months ago, I purchased 2 boerbel puppies, I am a huge dog fan. and due to my many commitments, I have not had time to train them myself. So I dropped them in my family house. 2 weeks later, all my siblings were complaining that the dogs are not well-behaved and I knew they lacked training. So I started seeking solution. After one of my trips, 3 weeks ago, I saw an ad in my estate for a dog trainer. so I gave him a call. He told me he was somewhere within my estate. He later branched to my family house to check on the dogs. After checking, we sat down to discuss business. He charges N50,000 a month to train a dog. and my 2 dogs cost N100,000 a month. He'll train them for 2 months which is 200,000. next, he will visit them "at home", once a week, for 6 months. just to refresh their memory.

So, it was cool, price was not negotiable. And I really needed a teacher for the dogs. I travelled the next day. He went and picked them up a day after that. I came into town briefly and decided to visit the dogs at their school. I got there and was amazed by the amount of Dogs I saw there!!! The man had almost 50 dogs in school that morning. All with their tagged collars, doing different exercises. It was indeed amazing. I started calculating the millions the guy must be raking in on a monthly basis. he was a rich man and I never knew, because I saw him as an ordinary dog trainer.

When he began to tell me his story and how he got into dog training, I concluded within myself that only a lazy man or a man who lacks ideas or an unlucky man will be poor in Nigeria. take it or leave it

That's the very truth. Nigeria is filled with boundless opportunities waiting to be tapped into.

Very true pavore9, a lot of people in Jos backthen rushed into planting coffee as it florishes well there but ended up with nothing coz the beans where not 'of export qualiity'

We do not have the comparative advantage when it comes to coffee. Those in the Jos area have a comparative advantage of cultivating veggies hitherto regarded as foreign and imported into the country though with informed practices it can be achieve across the country.

It was fun, As I lay in my hotel room now, I have a lot of new angles I have not looked at. Gearing seriously to go. want to put theory to work and start printing mine soon cheesy

All I did was dig a trench about 1m deep, 1m lenght and 1m breadth, layed zinc sheets on the base and poured the poultry dropping from my poultry house into them and pressed it down, after about 6 months, they were composted and ready for use!

Oga Jasper7 na Baba God alone go counter - balance u with blessings. See how u just exposed multi million naira secrets on this thread. Ur generations will forever be blessed. Big & better things r happening in Nigeria via agriculture. I've read this thread from page 1 to 21 twice now & i already feel like a cucumber farmer : grin Mr. Jasper7 I'm based in Port Harcourt & although a poultry farmer I'm delving into this now. Furthermore, I'll love to come over to Owerri to have a first hand experience on your farm. Thanks a lot once more for ur very insightful & educative thread.
