mercylicious: Unfortunately Ma'am, the stock market is a place where you learn largely from YOUR OWN experience. Even the master stockists do make mistakes, learn from them and move on. People may tell you this or that (like myjoy08 ) but after you put in your money, their good advice may have no effect on what you get. I would have loved to advise newbies to study GOOD books about investment before they start trading, but the truth is that those books only build one's confidence and grasp of the market; they don't guarantee that ALL your investment decisions will be right. Two pieces of advice I have for newbies, which have been said by other ogas on here, are these: 1. Don't invest money when you don't know ANYTHING about the stocks you want to buy. It's sad to see newbies say: "I have N200000, please advise me on what stocks to buy." 2. ONLY those who are in charge of ANY company have an idea of the potentials (profit or loss) of such company. You may read analyst reports, comments by experienced traders, financial sheets etc and think you're making the right choice...But still get your fingers burnt cos there's always MORE THAN YOU KNOW about any stock. You are only a COMMON/ORDINARY shareholder. People wey Oando don show pepper go understand the 2nd point well. 5 Likes |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Moneysage: 9:26pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
Sokijosh: Did you say "dd with charts" Chai, the stock that will overwhelm your dd skills is currently doing push-ups And nor let pa emma himself catch you saying this. He will sit you down for a lifetime lecture BTW, if you really do charts, you should know some technical indicators that incorporate volume and how to use them. Using volume to predict price action also comes with experience... Each trade volume implies Buy and Sell and if you have been following a stock well, you will know how to interpret the trade volume. |

Please o, this Shell BG 70b dollar deal, am sure we are all aware. If someone isn't informed, kindly check this link for more http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/oilandgas/11521123/Shell-in-talks-to-buy-BG-Group.html What strikes me in this deal is the acquirer's projections, lemme post it... Shell reveals it assumes Brent oil prices will be $67 per barrel in 2016, $75 per barrel in 2017 and returning to $90 per barrel between 2018 and 2020. Brent crude is trading down 1.3pc today at $58.34. Please, are you seeing what am seeing? Quite unrealistic or what? With proliferation of producers seen in the last two years and the fact that supply will continue to be more than demand for the next two years, I don't think we will see brent at 90 in 2018, max is 60. |

@ All I hail. For the newbies (whom I assume are keen to trade and are not intent on long term investments), an earlier poster here mentioned DD using charts while the Sage gave very candid and invaluable advice above. In my experience in the NSE, the more you see the less you understand. You can make money on almost every stock on our bourse (save for the deadwoods). Charts will mislead but may be accurate occasionally. Brokers/individuals that trade can make your chart show what they want you to see (both volume and price action e.g stdinsure, rtbriscoe, transexpr, costain etc) .... This game is one of fastest fingers first, either to enter or to exit. Don't gamble what you cant afford to lose. Dont over diversify. You dont have to be in every stock gaining. Cut your losses short and let your winners run (very vital so you know when to exit). Most importantly be observant, its unbelievable how much you can make from market making activities. 2 Likes 1 Share |
