Hi everyone... Im Hazzan from Abeokuta Ogun state. Graduate of biochemistry and a muzik lover...

Owing to d fact that jobs aint forthcoming except for the few marketing jobs with ridiculous pay and neck-breaking targets, which I've got so far, I decided to check out some ideas on the business section here on Nairaland where I came across one lovely idea but I gave up long the line cos the business won't survive around here based on my survey...

some days ago, I got a call from a girl (never met her tho) who has been chatting with me and telling me she wants to be under my record label (name hidden) which already has 3 male upcoming artistes. her call made me so confused as I don't have a studio to project the label yet, no fund to promote even the artistes I have already, but fortunately her call woke me from my slumber.

I had a plan that after my service year, I was gonna work on my record label (name hidden), but since I finished service this February, I've never thought of that plan.

to cut the story short, I thought a lot about the call and challenge I got from the girl because she kept on asking me about the plans I told her I had before I could sign her to my record label.

I finally decided that I'm gonna start up my own studio to boost my record label and also use the recording studio as a business venture because there are a lot of would-be artistes and upcoming artistes around thus, this is business...

I have little knowledge of music production and I'm already learning more to brush up my production skills and also Im hoping to bring in a producer to work with me for a while.

I drew out my plan, end goal, proposed customers, mode of operation, business scope, pricing model, competitors, advertisement strategy, projected business volume and how to achieve it, cash flow...

My studio project is in 3 stages...
1. construction of studio house
2. interiors including studio furniture's and lightning
3. stocking of equipments into studio

To God be the glory, construction work started today on a piece of land in front of my mum's house ... I will keep the updates coming here as work proceeds there ....

pls kindly drop your advises and recommendations for me to follow cos I believe there are great minds here ...
thanks

good set up.but i hope you have registered the name with cac.if not, then do justice to that before bad sharp guys do it for you.don't spell out your business name on public forum if you intend using it as professional business name.so go and register the label name with cac else bad sharp guys will help you with that

Well done @AsherStorm, we need more business startups in our country.

I must warn you however that this road you've gone down is a very difficult one. It's however one of the most rewarding things you could ever do.

A few questions on your first post.

- How may people have you signed up to use your studio?

- How much are they willing to pay?

- Any studios around you? If yes why not start out there to guage demand

- How will you be different? What's your USP (unique selling point)?

- You indicated limited production skills and a desire to hire a producer. Why would a producer come work for you and not go start their own studio?

Well done again and good luck with your journey.

thanks a lot for ur comment sir...
I have 2 male artists presently signed under my label while d third one left to learn production under another studio/label but if he's willing to come back, he will be in charge of production till I'm perfect and the plan is that my artistes pay 50% of whatever the cost of studio session while I bear d rest...
for artistes who aren't under my label, there's a good plan on how to attract them en mass.

there is no studio around at all cos as far as I know, the closest studio to me is still very far and moreso, mine will be the closest to the students of FUNAAB... concerning demand, demand is high as long as u have a strategy of attracting them, they will troop in

USP is that this studio will have an outdoor joint where artistes and their friends and relate, gist, have some bottles, and talk music and more...
more so, the fact that I'm combining a recording label with production and my label is already known here in Abeokuta with quite a number of upcoming artistes showing interest in working with me...

I know quite a lot of good producers looking to work with good studios cos they do not have the cash and business oriented mind to start up a music studio of their own

once again, thanks for the tips

@ lintel level now... by tomorrow, I'd make contact with the carpenter then buy rods for the concrete of the lintel... before the bricklayer put 1 or 2 more level on the lintel

candid advice; you must be ready to produce, record and mix all by yourself or count it a failure ab initio. You must be sure of where you will be getting your traffic from.

Nice move....since you are closest to funaab...it means you should identify the politically concious students... They will need jingles once in a while..also target the social arenas...and spread the word to students who display singing talents...give them incentives like 50% discount for the first 5 bookings... Bla bla...also make some nice beats ..beats only.... Crazy beats..one or two...and give it out to some event organisers to play for free....thumbs up cute guy

I read through the thread with glee and I must confess that I'm impressed. To maximize your output, I believe you need to work hard on your music skill since you admitted to having little skill in this aspect. Music is broad and so are genres. God bless your hustle smiley

Nice job bro, it feels good to see young folks dedicated to their hustle. It will be wise to get a lawyer to sort out the contracts with your artists.

Thumbs up bro.

I love your courage and determination to create a job for yourself after spending 4 years in school + 1 year service.

With the way Naija is now i think our graduates should stop dreaming of getting a white-collar job(except you are connected). Create a job for yourself.
Like myself now,i just finished my ND and am also a specialist on Car-airconditioning (but still under my Brother's tutelage).Am thinking of dropping school for now and start up my own.

I have a passion for rap music too and have record 3 tracks.

Am torn between School,Music and Handwork and dnt kno which to follow for now.
