I am a Geologist currently working in the Oil and Gas sector.

The period of job search is always the most challenging and trying time for young people particularly young men.

I give Glory to God for where I am today. But each time i look back and remember all my sufferings and challenges it just seems like a dream.

Infact i almost lost relevance even in my father's house bc i had no job so i had no say.
Even when i got a job bt bc the pay was little, i still felt miserable.

But something kept me going: My high self esteem and self worth

I graduated with a 2:1 in Geology abt 12yrs ago.
I prepared my CV immediately i got my statement of result before going for NYSC. I had d hope of securing a job before finishing NYSC.
I started practising GMAT and GRE immidiately i finished project defence while awaiting NYSC.

I used the whole of NYSC period to prepare for my job search. I believed i was so good and was bubbling with high hopes and expectations Cos i was scoring very high in the practise test questions.Infact i applied for jobs during NYSC and wrote NNPC and Shell tests bt was nt succesful (my first encounter with reality on ground).

I came out of NYSC without securing any jobs unlike what i expected. I started sending cv to different companies as they advertised. I wrote Oceanic bank, Diamond bank, UBA and was nt succesful though i got to d interview stage in 2 of them.

My first ever job came as a miracle at Accessbank. I was lying down thinking abt my life when my university class mate called me to come to Accessbank Toyin street Ikeja that they are looking for adhoc staff. I arrived their in no time. I got the offer and also contacted some of my other comrades in the struggle hu also got it.

It was a 1month job.The news of my bank job spread among my extended family and church members like wild fire. Though i didnt tell them it was a 1month contract job.We were paid off at month end and i was back home and hidding from people so they wont ask y i didnt go to work.

Next day i went to visit my girl friend (my wife today). I was still in her place when i received a phone call inviting me for an aptitude test and interview at an Oil Servicng company i sent my application to abt 2 months earlier. They actually requested for minimum of 2yrs experience bt i still applied without experience. I got the job! It was my first break through.

Employed as a trainee in 2005 with a gross salary of 33K was nt so bad to start with. Banks were paying GTs 40-70K then.

I knew my worth. I knew i was worth more than that. I now limited my application to major Oil and Gas companies. I wrote Elf test, didnt scale through the test stage. I wrote Shell and got to the interview stage. I wrote NNPC and got the job. Shell put me on stand-by but no message from them till date not even a regret mail.

I still work with the NNPC till date and not regretting it.

So job seekers know ur worth, prepare well and keep pressing.

The problem is that most young people especially the girls don't want to equip themselves in computer skills. I get a thousand applicants for d post of office assistant and I ask them just one question! R u computer literate? Do u knw how to use microsoft office tools? Na thr dem go start to dey fumble. If you knw ur lookin for a job and u dnt hav any computer literacy please I advice you to do so. Besides there is still vacancy at where i work and its for the post of office assistant. Applicant must reside within ajah or badore in lagos and must knw how to use corel draw. Pay is 20k.

This is the most cheapest,most lucrative, money rainy business av ever seen. Take fishery for example. Whatever money or amount you put into fishery you get timez 2 of whatever input or fund involve. So, let think of how to raise money and take the risk of doing business instead of looking for JOB.

Like, if not for marriage, I would have still be in the bank bla bla bla. In other for hubby to survive my perpetual nagging, he surprised me with a Placard on our gate *Buy your cold kunu here* lol. He said to me, 'Baby your kunu taste really good, why dont you give it a trial'. I was like, what? He was like 'Too late, its on the gate'. Before I knew it, people started knocking my gate for kunu. I couldnt tell anyone I was selling kunu in the north but I was never broke. Hubby was relieved, no more nagging lol. There are also days that no one comes to buy kunu. Men and Women around mocked me. I was called a Kunu seller. What do I do when Jobs around were offering 8 - 10k monthly. I prayed and fasted for my status to change. I was hopeful that God has heared me. To God be The Glory, I'm not employed by anyone, I'm self employed. To the Glory of God, My status is Changed #GodWin. From kunu seller to an Agro Allied Owner with its offices in Sokoto, Lagos and a Ware House in Ogun state.

Served in 2014, heard of an interview scheduled on a good saturday, bros I arrange my CV and add and minus what is needed.

Storm the place, behold it was strictly on invitation, all efforts to gate crash prove abortive as the interviewers gave no room for that. As a determined man with a zeal to survive. Immediately I heard a name that sound like mine I shouted PRESENT SIR! Even when I didn't submit any credential, I was ushered in and when I presented my credentials to the panel, they where confused. "But this is not the name we have here" said one short fat lady

"But Ma'am, it seems the name was misspelled, that's how most people always make mistakes while spelling my name" I echoed with boldness. They all laughed at my statement and the slim young man with a goat I mean bowl tie challenged "my friend how did you get here"?

"With a keke sir, 50 naira from the junction" I said trying to avoid the challenge comically.

"Anyway, you've a good result, a well arranged cv. Try somewhere else said" said the big boss among them.

"But Sir, that's what the last organization I went to said, that's why am here" I chipped amidst breaking voice.

Alright we'll get back to you. Said the big boss.

I went home "afterall I get beans wey I cook in the morning before I comot, make I go use am see front" I encouraged myself. Thursday I got a text to come to --- Bank, Rumuola (portharcourt) for meet with the boss interview. I look the sms well to make sure its not these network guys with their oversabi text. Behold brethren, I went there, I met the same big boss with just 2 other Ladies, immediately he said in a coarse voice "What will you say if you're asked to leave PH and go work in a suburb?" I said sharply "Sir, as the lord pleases, here I am, send me".

He said alright, here are the forms for documentation, othe requirements by the Bank will be corresponded to you. Bros na so I take start work with Bank, though na Orieagu (Imo state) a village dem post me go o.
