EVarn: Vice said that those men had been holding the town "since the war began" so those positions have been there for years now. They should be extremely sophisticated by now. The MG nest being elevated makes it a nice target for recoiless grenades and easy suppression. Ammo is a disaster waiting to happen - a stray mortar or tracer round could set it off, and a couple tonnes of explosives going off in the middle of your base during an attack is not something you want to happen. Ideally the majority would be distrubited along hard points in the trenches (so you dont have to run off to get more in battle) and the rest would be stored in a number of heavily dug in bunkers strategically located around the base. |

jl115:ah..AU it is then |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 10:29am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: One fire and the base goes boom. There is reason Ammo is kept in a magazine or bunker or any where but in the open and laying around a accomdastion area. Safety. I would understand random gear by people's trommels or lockers hell on there bunks even. But stacks of ammo. What would happen if a mortar hit the area with all that ammo. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 10:40am On Apr 11, 2015 |
Patchesagain:And who is to say that there arent bunkers hidden around the location?,surely you dont expect the military to air such sensitive and strategic ammo depots and defense positions on a public video,it would be like handing over the blueprint of the garrison to the enemy |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 10:53am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: Then those bunkers where not on the from line. If you have decacted ammo storage area then use it. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 10:58am On Apr 11, 2015 |
Patchesagain:The position where the ammo are stacked is quite distant from the outer perimeter of the FOB,also it is on an elevated slope and out of range of low level projectile,so it is technically impossible for stray mortar to hit the ammo storage. Moreover, topography must be considered, storing ammo in trenches and bunkers may be dangerous as the soil component of the north eastern region is extremely sulphurus. it would also reduce mobility of ammunitions. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeCZAR: 11:04am On Apr 11, 2015 |
jl115:A single direct mortar hit destroys the whole base as the explosion will not be channelled upwards. Just Rebels! |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 11:06am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn: You do know what a mortar is right? Because it don't care about terrain and they have a range of 2km for the small ones and above 10km for the big ones. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 11:09am On Apr 11, 2015 |
andrewza:As i said, there is low risk of accidental detonation because the storage facility is simply too distant to the outer perimeter where their is risk of mortar or attilery being fired. Considering that ammunitions are regularly being moved,it would make sense for ammo to be stacked outside, especially if those ammunitions were recently delivered or are in transit to another frontline base. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 11:12am On Apr 11, 2015 |
andrewza:Those ammunitions may be on transit,or newly delivered, therefore their is need for proper identification, sorting, and documentation before storage. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 11:20am On Apr 11, 2015 |
andrewza:You do know how big konduga FOB is right?,the chance of launching a mortar into the ammo storage is extremely low, even if it is a range of 10km{which is a scarce commodity for boko haram},moreover, terrain matters a lot, konduga FOB is on an elevated plain,as you can see in the video. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeCZAR: 11:20am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn:Did you watch the video with your ears closed? The positions were attacked several times. A surprise mortar attack, in less than 5 minutes insurgents can throw more than 4 bombs to a position and run. They've been for a while. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeCZAR: 11:25am On Apr 11, 2015 |
EVarn:The Lieutenant said BH fighters crawl and get really close to the trenches to launch their attacks and the base has been attacked more than 8 times. What are you talking about? |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 12:01pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
MikeCZAR:And how many times have mortar hit the ammo storage facility?=zero times, what does that tell you?. konduga FOB have been attacked 13 times now,and never has a mortar ever hit the storage. |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by EVarn(m): 12:15pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
MikeCZAR:Pray that God should cleanse you of every orubebe spirit tormenting your brain.Did i ever imply that konduga has never being attacked?,Infact, kondua is the most assaulted FOB in the whole north eastern theatre of war.where did you get your misguided impression from?. lol, boko haram "crawl" and get really close to the trenches to launch attacks?,surely you were either sleeping or drunk while watching the video. Do you think that battles are usually fought in front of the storage centre?.lol,BH incursions are usually intercepted 8-15km away from the town itself and then consequently repelled! PS: The FOB has been attacked 13 times, not 8 times. |

Patchesagain: I understand that your perceived knowledge of the military is drawn primarily from the parade ground and from exhibitions, but........... You are as ignorant as they come. You have no idea how actual fighting is done. MduZA:Zulu is own by Christopher boy, not your Zulu-Xhosa, bantu-Tswana savages. You keep talking about foreign companies. Boy, didn't anybody teach you globalisation and the muscle of the international market? Australian power generating firms are owned by mostly foreigners. That's what the game is. It is unfortunate that the opinion of the average Nigerian mirrors the exact opinion of the world. Desmond tutu and co is wishing for the return of apartheid regime where savages like you are kept in the bushes and mountains far away from civility. A country where 90% black population is feeding on the labours of 5% Europeans. Your shoprite is enjoying economic asylum in Nigeria. You are a pariah to development and progress and fair growth, so they are fleeing from you like the leprose wretch you are. Your Julius Melamo admitted that they would prefer to seize white lands but "they run the economy" I need clear facts from you, boy, not a goat drinking water from pool nonsense. Because as we speak, you're still a 21st century slave with no history and identification. do not forget that incompetence and violence is a byword for South Africans now. 2 Likes |

Patchesagain: First of, This video completely lays to waste the spurious allegations/ and multiple lies been peddled by Aljazeera, CNN, BBC et al, of Nigerian troops been under-equipped / under-resourced . If the SANDF was a proper military that can afford aviation fuel/ tents, make sound strategic or tactical decisions or even shoot properly, then we would have been able to talk. The trenches are primarily a defensive position to provide troops defending the FOB with cover. There is also no proof that these are the forward trenches. I mean, it's right in-front of the commanders office. Above all, with 1300 enemy forces killed in Konduga FOB in a 3 consecutive attacks november of 2014, and 13 attacks in total, their tactics have proven to be flawless and impeccable. Ammo, Ammo isn't stored outside. It's common sense actually, they are most likely recently delivered rounds, which would in-turn be sent inside for storage. Seeing that the documentary was made at the heat of the offensive, those Ammo are meant for re-supply to friendly forces during operations. The FOB is an abandoned secondary school in the middle of nowhere. Most schools in Africa don't come with bunkers like you have in israel. Troops in their FOB can dress how they like. I've seen british forces engage the enemy in only underpants. Only Private friday has has a desert camo T-shirt, the others are all in woodland camo. He has his AK-74M by his side at all times, same as his colleagues. Perfect video, there is always room for improvements 3 Likes 1 Share |

MikeCZAR: Actual troops who have a combined battlefield experience of more than 10,000 years, relaxing in their FOB. The SANDF is an inept, grossly inefficient, and truly incompetent parade ground force. The Nigerian military is a proper fighting group. You can't compare the two. We can do photographs, but what is truly important for us is letting the enemy feel the pain. Seleka rebels took your special forces to the cleaners, you should truly be scared of the damage we could bring on your poorly trained troops. 2 Likes |

Patchesagain: They have ruthlessly messed up the enemy in konduga FOB. It means clearly that their tactics are flawless. no baseline change is required, only improvements done. They have dealt with the enemy on 13 different occasions. The MG nest is protected with Sandbags. They have, Igirigi, CS/VP3 MRAPs, IFV's, T-72's and T-55's tanks. They got bofors, D-30's, 105's. They got drones, attack Helicopers and Surveillance assets to call in. Of course, loads and loads of Ammo. The Ammo isn't a disaster waiting to happen, it is well protected. After 13 different attacks, the enemy attacking with AA mounted on gun-trucks, RPG's, MG's and tanks. Konduga FOB has proven to be one of the worlds most well defended FOB, and an ideal research topic. 2 Likes |

andrewza: There is a reason why after 13 attacks with AA, RPG, tanks and mortar the base hasn't gone boom. It's simply because Ammo is well stored. 1 Like |

lezz: you sound clueless that's why you seem not seeing what's happening in your country unless you are one of those typical ignorant Nigerians that we see on this forum...Desmond tutu and malema views are uniquely theirs and have rights to express them just like many Nigerians who wish to return to the Abacha regime...fact remains your country is pathetic that's why Nigerians are flocking to SA for green pastures,2 weeks back one of your cabinet ministers was seen queuing with ordinary south africans for medical checkup at the Chris hani baragwanath hospital, south African authorities were not aware of his visit,he flew all the way from your zooland to SA just for medical checkup,I have noticed that you mention south African tribes in every post,am not surprised....thats how you people play your primitive tribal games....i hear that igbos are no longer wanted in Lagos...yeses |
