that's sounds like a lot of things u wanna do.. how big is ur backyard for this kind of integrated farming.. if u wanna dive into poultry for commercial purpose and u want to make profit I suggest u go into egg production .. thank me later

I have had ppl on Nairaland here and other Agri forum cry of having enough eggs but no buyer. I have plenty of land here I can use for commercial farming but my fear is the market

I would have gone deep into why I said egg production is more viable but to stay from argument I would say don't even engage in poultry 4 now as there is bird flu in the country at this moment.

I don't agree with you. Will you keep eggs inside your house and think that people will see it from outside? The eggs, especially the first eggs must be marketed. Are there no mallams who make eggs, indomie and tea around them? Are there no confectionery shops around them, not to talk of those that hawk snacks about? Are there no restaurants and hotels? Not to talk of retailers. I can go on mentioning so I disagree that there is no market.

It is ok to start even with one layer only. But if you are rearing to sell, I will not advice to go for only 5. Let us say close to 10 birds because 30 eggs make a crate and the the 5 birds might not lay on a daily basis. So, having like 10, you should be able to make a crate in 4-5 days which is ok instead of having to wait for like 8 or 9 days before you make a crate. Is that all you need to know?

Starting with 5 layers? How will you vaccinate them? The least dose vaccines comes with is 200 doses, though I heard that 50 dose now exist.

1. they don't take time to study the business before going into it.
2. they employ people and go and sit down, then the people run down the business.
3. they have no knowledge of record keeping.
4. as they see the chicken big big, that is how they eat and dash to people. then when the profit starts coming, they want to show every one that they have arrived, so they eat the profit and eat into the capital too. You will find out that many of them try to go back to the business after some time.
5. many don't like to do marketing. they want you to come and look for them. is it possible to be checking every house may be you will see a poultry farmer there?

Poultry is lucrative. When you are ready to start, as in, even when before you start the foundation, call me. I will guide you. Many people get it wrong from the very beginning, then they start complaining afterwards.

I'm not a broiler farmer, but some of them would say N600/bird to cover cost of doc, feed, medicatn and vaccination. From that it seems 10 birds would need N6000. Broiler farmers shud pls confirm this.
