There are quite a number of optometrists in Nigeria, it depends if u want to start your own practice which would be ideal if you can get start up capital and get alliance with hospitals as well as market the benefits of eye care.

Just remember that your pricing strategy should be good enough so that you demand is high.

Ok. Let me try and respond 2ur questions 2d best of my knowledge. Optometry in Nigeria is not doing badly at all, although, there is still alot 2be done as regards this noble profession. It has its good and bad sides jxt like any other medical profession. However, getting a job is relatively easy, as many get employed immediately after graduation, but the problem is, remuneration, which can b poor sometimes. Public hospitals Often times, pay much better than the private ones but getting employed by them is usually difficult. The average salary of a Resident Optometrist in a private clinic is about 60k (could be higher/lower) while General and Teaching Hospitals (Government Hospitals) pay almost same thing paid 2 Physicians. One can also get a job with NGOs like UNICEF, WHO etc, but the chances are slim. Furthermore, getting a job abroad from Nigeria will be very difficult, as one is required 2write and pass the country's board exams b4 practising. The requirements vary from country to country. In the US, for instance, u're made to start d 4year program all over again b4 practising, skipping only the Pre-opt which is 2 or 3years (not 2sure). Whereas, in the UK, U Jxt have 2take and pass their board exams. Like i said, different reguirements 4different countries. All in all, its a good profession that will definitely get better over time. i'm in year 1 and kind of skeptical about optometry becuz people are saying it's not lucrative.

Optometry is a great profession, but normally very challenging immediately after graduation. like someone said above, private practice job are there, but pay seems small.

in the long run you will always be proud.

Optometry is one of the best and most lucrative course. You can go on ur own..the major optometrist i knw hv eye hospitals nd are rich nd dey can hav time for demselvs n family

2sittings are accepted for all courses except MBBS that accept only 1 sitting.

Tanx! criteria for admission in uniben only base on the number of candidates vying for particular course together with general performance in their aggregate scores...but should score above 50% as aggregate....competetion, catchment also play its own role..
